21  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] Duelbits.com | Signature Campaign ~ Full Members+ | Up to $70/Week on: May 22, 2024, 05:23:15 AM
Thank you all for your applications! It was tough to decide with a limited number of spots and I did my best to include as many users as possible without going too much over budget. I may make room for more members in the coming weeks but for now we are once again CFNP.
Welldone Hhampuz, you made nice selections as usual. I believe in the coming weeks, there'll be more opportunities. Congratulations to the  hired participants.
22  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wallets supporting Silent Payments on: May 21, 2024, 10:54:39 AM
Every time you receive coins with Silent Payment they will end up in new bitcoin address, so there is no more address reuse.
This means the wallet keeps generating different addresses which interacts with the blockchain while allowing the user to maintain 1 addy from their own end. How will the blockchain analysis be?

Here is example how Silent Payment addresses look

Why is it a way longer than the usual addresses?
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Will I be easily hacked? on: May 21, 2024, 10:07:21 AM
I have read about Bitcoin storage and it is said that cold storage is the safest because it cannot be hacked since it is not connected to the internet. As a beginner who is yet to buy bitcoin, I would like to own some portions of bitcoin before I will consider to buy a hardware wallet.
It can still be hacked. Everything is hackable if not well or properly set or handled. There's actually a no safe haven in the cryptocurrency industry.

I have a brand new phone, if I unbox it and use it to install only my bitcoin wallet without using it to frequent online or click links and neither will I download other apps. Will I still be easily hacked?
You get hacked only if you expose yourself to scammers. If you don't click random links and join giveaways by connecting your wallets to receive airdrops, you likely might not be hacked.

I can recommend a more secure way to save your coins without getting a hardware wallet. You can use two devices to create a multiSig wallet. Such that for you to be hacked, the two or 3 different devices must be compromised.

25  Other / Meta / Re: The effect the mixer ban has had on the forum. on: May 20, 2024, 10:46:30 AM
Most of my posting here was not done with a signature. I would think 25000 maybe 30,000 posts were done with no campaign.
Philipma would never go back to when he posted for free. ignorance is bliss  Tongue

I didn't actually know why he posted for so long without signature. He changed his mind when one user made a post and from then he started participating in signature campaign to support one project so and from then he seem to like it the more.

I don't wanna be "that" guy but I think that o_e_l_e_o was here because of high pay rate and he left because of low pay rate and we lost a very amazing member because of that!
I don't want to believe this... Before o_e_l_e_o left, a campaign was still paying upto $150, that would still be manageable for him. Besides, he could just leave without mentioning health issues. I am having a mixed feeling because of this post. Well, it will be nice if Leo is actually sound and healthy somewhere as you opined.
26  Economy / Services / Re: [CFNP] BestChange Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: May 15, 2024, 10:49:20 AM
The campaign on Bitcointalk has been running for 226 consecutive weeks which is 4.5 years.
4.5 years of consistency and dedication, it can only be Bestchange. Congratulations and long live to your project.
27  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit earned by Nigerian Members here in Bitcointalk on: May 14, 2024, 11:55:19 PM
I'm not being racist here, just an observation. How do they manage to earn merits like that?
Several months ago, they were complaining about the lack of sufficient merit sources, so I am happy that there has been a positive change. If you find any abuse of merit, please report it here.
Nicest reply Huge!
I remember when merits were lacking in the board and you had to start a merit distribution thread with CryptopreneurBrainboss in the Nigeria local board. Today, if the story has changed, it should be seen as progress unless otherwise is discovered.
28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto as job salary - Yay or Nay? on: May 14, 2024, 08:31:04 PM
Getting paid in crypto doesnt really matter. There are tons of signature promoters on bitcointalk which get paid in cryptocurrency. The issue lies more what you do with it after you receive your pay check.
This is also my stance on this topic. Whether paid in cryptocurrency or in fiat, you can swap between them. So, it all boils down to what the receiver wants. To save in bitcoin or in fiat. With the instance adaseb gave, you can understand that some signature campaign participants do not even spend from their earnings. They allow it to grow with bitcoin while some send direct to exchanges and convert to fiat. But keeping part in bitcoin and the spendables in fiat seems a nice idea.
29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Share your top mistakes in crypto - learning from others experiences! on: May 14, 2024, 06:42:24 PM
Share your top 1-5x most important mistakes you made during your journey in crypto that you won't make again and have brought you closer to success. I think we can learn a lot from the mistakes made by others.
At any stage you meet bitcoin, you are free to buy and hold. I met bitcoin when it was around $8K, and I was discouraged from buying that it is expensive, that I should buy some random coins. Today bitcoin is above $60k and those random altcoins then are gone. At any point in time, try buy bitcoin and hold, you will not regret in the future.
30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does the world know about Bitcoin? on: May 14, 2024, 06:30:50 PM
To me i think there are some part of the world that still don't know anything about Bitcoin, because there are people in USA, UK, Australia, Canada, China, etc. even in Nigeria there are people that don't know anything about Bitcoin,
The world is too big. The Christians believe that why the world has not come to pass and judgement passed is because all nooks and crannies of the world have not heard about the gospel of Christ. If Christ who existed thousands of years ago is still not known on some part of the world till today, how about bitcoin which barely a decade old.

they always think that Bitcoin is a scam, .
There's a difference between not knowing at all (not heard about bitcoin) and knowing wrongly (thinking bitcoin is a scam). Which are we discussing?
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what things can do if i hodle for long time crypto on: May 14, 2024, 02:16:56 PM

what are methods you used to forget the market conditions and keep hodl?

In my story , i always log to twitter and see what is happing , see coinmarketcap always, see youtube videos related to crypto. so this makes me sometimes panic , fear.

please update what things you do
This happens when you don't invest in trusted coins. If you are holding a trusted coin, with high utility, liquidity and the rest, you will not panic whenever there's a dip. It's only when you hold some worthless coins that got popular through the trend hype that you will be anxious when there's a drift in price.

After investing for long time, find something doing with your free time, this will keep your mind engaged instead of remaining idle and thinking about your investment
32  Other / Meta / Re: Could there be a "like button"? on: May 13, 2024, 11:58:39 PM
Op, I just did a quick search to dig up one of my early posts which expressed exactly what you have done in OP. Now I'll place both posts below, we will read both and try to deduce something from them.

As a newbie, I read many posts that has quality. After reading the posts I'll feel like to merit the post, but as a newbie, I might not have a sendable merit, I will have no option than to slide on.
Assuming there is an alternative to merit just like "Facebook like" along side merit, it would favour me.

Atleast if I don't have merit to give, I will just click like and move on pending when I'll have merit to award the user.
This proposed "like" might likely not be used by admins, or neither shall it determine ranking, but it should just be a mere appreciation for a quality post when merit is lacking.

During my time spent in the forum, i've received some replies to my post and i've read many informative post which help guide my navigation through the forum, giving out merit might be a little bit difficult as there are limitations to that, so many times wish i could hit the like button in every educating post i come across, to show gratitude towards the op, and also shows how relevant a particular post/reply is, (i.e from a wide range of reply, a reader and easily skim and scan a post and get informed in no time through the engagements a particular reply have).

Lesson to be learnt;
  • Always use search function to be sure you are not trying to discuss what has been discussed several times in the past.
  • theymos is reluctant of making any merit related changes. If you were here 2018, according to some people, you will appreciate the merit system.
33  Other / Meta / Re: Warning against consecutive posts (SMF patch) on: May 13, 2024, 11:27:35 PM
This could guide those writing ban appeals on how to present their cases.
I do not mind this. 99% of ban appeals do not get accepted anyway and same percentage of bans are for plagiarism, the ban punishment on spam is loosely enforced and malicious link bans are not common.
When you narrow it down to plagiarism and sharing malwares, any user doing this knows exactly what they are doing and do not need pointers nor do they need to appeal.

We just just have the one unique situation every once in a long while when a user gets wrongly banned and needs clarification to direct their appeal. This can be handled on a case by case basis.
Well said. Most ban appeals are handled case by case. When I was new, I remember two members unbanned within the same space. But I haven't seen something like that again. I would like you to check out this thread, you will see that forum is become very lenient in recent time.
34  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CEX or DEX: Which One Rewards You More? on: May 13, 2024, 11:12:14 PM
CEX is better for you if you want to get the most out of your crypto whenever you want to sell because they can do a trade as close to the current price as possible, that's probably the only advantage of CEX in my opinion because there's not a lot of advantages to it not to mention that it's a not your keys, not your coins when it comes to CEX so in the cases of attacks on an exchange, you might be risking a your money storing it there. Some might say that P2P can be an advantage but I doubt it, you can do P2P here in the forum.
That's not the only advantage of CEX of DEX. I am not supporting CEX in this debate but I'm trying to prove that there are other advantages of CEX of DEX apart from selling coins near market price.
  • Have you considered the user interface of both and see that CEXs are a way better.
  • How about internal feeless transfers.
  • Non technicality of usage
  • Security of the exchange. This might be confusing, but a DEX  which do not have many developers working on it is a menace.
  • I just want both to co-exist in order to get the government distracted.
35  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance sued in Canada for securities law violations on: May 13, 2024, 10:53:12 PM
Binance is getting sued perpetually. Nothing new, business as usual and the BNB price reflects that. Grin
Exactly my thoughts... An adage says if a child is punished in one regular way, that punishment will eventually become a hobby to the child. I don't think that Binance is afraid of any litigation anymore. Infact her former CEO has been convicted and yet the company keeps going. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger is the case of Binance.
36  Economy / Services / Re: Charles-Tim Signature space for rent on: May 13, 2024, 10:20:45 PM
I joined the forum and saw Charles-Tim promoting Bestchange which was the highest paying campaign then after Chipmixer. I admired him and the likes of CryptopreneurBrainboss. From then till date, Charles-Tim has been promoting high paying and reputable projects. I give him all the available flowers.
37  Other / Meta / Re: The effect the mixer ban has had on the forum. on: May 13, 2024, 10:04:27 PM
So you want theymos to leave the USA and find a friendly country to run bitcointalk.
If that friendly country turns their policy similarly to the USA. theymos will need to leave that country, find a new one, and the cycle will repeat.
Quite interesting and a nice idea, iff: what theymos lives for is Bitcointalk.
Instead of theymos toeing this lane, he will rather form a group that will transform the forum to a decentralized one.

To me, these ideas are not needed yet because the forum is not doing any illegal deals. The last time I checked, arms and drugs are not sold here. I also feel that theymos has an informant from the government. Anytime US wants to come for this forum, it will not take him unaware. Could be the reason he stopped mixers, who knows with this recent attacks on mixers, BTT would have been implicated and suspended by now.
38  Other / Meta / Re: Warning against consecutive posts (SMF patch) on: May 13, 2024, 09:43:44 PM
Good work as always PowerGlove. But can mods leave clearer messages so the user is not confused when they get a notification? I know it may be too much work to write down a notification message for each action they take, but they can choose an option from the most commonly used actions which will be added to the system. Such as;
• A reply of yours was deleted cause it's spam
• A reply if yours was deleted cause it is off topic
• Consecutive posts merged (see rule 32)

Mods will be in a better position to know what they commonly handle and which options to add to make their job easier and the message clearer.
This will help newbies alot. I was confused when some of my posts were deleted in my newbie days. I wouldn't know if it was an off topic, or spam or was just reported and deleted for no reason (which was what I believed then).
I instead have another striking concern;
  • You have been banned because of plagerism.
  • You have been banned because of spamming
  • You have been banned for sharing malicious links
Etc.
This could guide those writing ban appeals on how to present their cases.

Maybe that patch could also have some real preventive measure in the sense that it would disable "Posting multiple posts in a row" in a way that it would simply refuse to publish such posts?
This will affect lots of other members. Those who make announcement threads for example usually "reserve" the first reply after starting their threads which will count as posting in a row. Campaign managers also after announcing to have made the payment for a week in their thread will commonly have no reply there till the next week, which will also count as consecutive posting too.
There are other scenarios where it's necessary, so disabling it entirely will be counter productive.
Apart from the above you described, the forum does not operate in such a way to deny anyone freedom. Even bumping warnings doesn't restrict you from posting, rather it will encourage you to start a new topic unless it's very necessary to bump.
39  Other / Meta / Re: List of Meta suggestions for Bitcointalk Improvement on: May 13, 2024, 09:21:59 PM
Nice to see this thread bumped. Although it's an old thread but this is my first time of seeing it. I have read a thread where someone was proposing to compile a list such as this. I trust the person has seen this to avoid duplicate threads.

Op, can you make a provision to check implemented suggestions? Like 2fa authentication, Op on topic starters have been implemented. This could make theymos see here as a place to come whenever he wants to implement a new thing.
40  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How can I get into trading on: May 13, 2024, 08:52:55 PM
In addition to all the answers written above, you may ask yourself whether you will be able to control all the emotions that are present during trading. For people with a weak nervous system, trading causes serious problems, which means, in addition to all the knowledge, you must train yourself to the fact that the loss of funds, as an integral part of practice, will bother you every time. Are you ready for this? Is the game worth the candle, or is it still easier to limit yourself to regular investments in Bitcoin?
This area you pointed out, to me is the most important factor to be considered while preparing to trade or learn trading. The emotional ruggedness of a trader is that fuel that keeps the trader going. I remember when I first joined the cryptocurrency industry, and it was the period of 2021 bull run. I learnt the basics of trading and was practically buying low and selling high, since it was bull run, I thought I have mastered the act of trading. But when the market went against me heavily, I was emotionally bewitched. I couldn't perform any reasonable task in the real life until I sold at lose and regained my healthy life. That was when I realised that trading actually isn't for me
