You can pump LTC 5% with about $60k. Do the same with BTC and no one will notice. Also, you try to cash out huge gains for significant sums, you slip right down.

Fun tool for multiplying(or dividing) nickels and dimes tho.

I notice the market is much thinner than Bitcoin's, and the price can rise or crash very fast. It's a much bigger gamble than Bitcoin, you might double your money or lose half very quickly. Once you have bought in getting back out is much harder when it's crashing.
22  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 06, 2015, 12:36:08 AM
Chinese gov is pumping LTC with overstock USD to switch then back for BTC later.
They don't care about LTC bag holders

No reason to hate on LTC just because those who had the balls to hodl it TRIPLED their wealth IN JUST THE PAST MONTH.  Not every crypto has to be a disappointment, you know Smiley

I remember I dismissed it as a dead crypto back in March, when I exchanged some bitcoin to it, and then changed back at a loss about a week after. Now look at it, revived (more or less). Bitcoin and Litecoin have at a positive-thinking feedback loop "just wait and see what Bitcoin's halving will do" a little voice in the back of my head says. "Wait and see". It might be the reason for me to leap into the job's market, just s I can buy some cheap sub-$400 BTC.

I remember a thread about how litecoin was dead saying it would soon be below a dollar. In retrospect I suspect the OP started it to try and drive the price down as low as he could get it so he could stock up on cheap litecoins right at the bottom. Next time I see a thread like that I'm buying, not selling.
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leaving eurozone - Greece & Bitcoin on: July 05, 2015, 11:52:08 PM
If Greece leave the eurozone a lot of their people will be hurting, most likely to come a huge political change and it would be interesting to see if Russia is going to help out Greece if it does leave the Eurozone.

if they leave, Russia will most definitely come to them. Either Russia or China Wink

Why Russia or China?

Greece was under Turkish rule for 400 years*, They can exit Euro and adopt Turkish Lira Smiley

Turkish rule: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Greece#Ottoman_rule_.2815th_century_.E2.80.93_1821.29

Greece is a strategic country in what concerns military purposes. It's also home to a government who said "we don't pay" and who is questioning the authority of the EU leaders and isn't accepting their terms as is. This is pleasant to those countries.

Now I question you, why Turkey? Grin I haven't been seeing reports or rumors of such collaboration in the news, and historical reasons aren't enough, I think Smiley

Russia has signed a deal with Greece to build a gas pipeline through it to supply Europe. That's going to be very lucrative to Russia and is a good reason for it to help Greece financially. Russia already said it would consider helping financially if Greece is in dire need.
24  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 05, 2015, 10:04:17 PM
so thats it, greeks are getting out of the EUR?

It means they are not accepting the proposed deal, but there will be more talks soon. AFAIK there's no way to leave the Eurozone without leaving the EU completely.
And there is no way to leave the EU. The treaties don't allow that.

They will probably find a way to change the treaties. The Germans said the Greeks were voting on whether to stay in the EU or not, despite what the referendum question was.

Mr. Gabriel, the German economics minister said “But it must be crystal clear what is being decided. It is, at the core, yes or no to remaining in the eurozone.”

Another update regarding Greece - Live vote counting - http://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2015/jul/05/live-results-greek-referendum

Yes
38.56%

No
61.44%

With 87.55% of votes reported

So, that means 53% of all valid votes is "no". "No" confirmed.

That's what the official government website shows, the no voters have won and the votes not counted yet won't make any difference to the final result. The prime minister will probably be doing speeches and TV interviews about his next moves all night.

26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin trending in greece! on: July 05, 2015, 09:11:26 PM
Finally some raw data saying they are indeed more interested in Bitcoin... Now we only need exchanges to start picking up with real volume from Greece, when they can withdraw more fiat...

If they go back to using the Drachma it will happen quicklt, then they can start making large withdrawals from their bank accounts (after a 30% haircut for a bail in). It won't be long before they can start accumulating Bitcoin, and they will probably drive up the volume on exchanges to unheard of levels.

Drachma will be almost worthless if they change to it, as I've read... So they won't probably spend that much drachma on bitcoins. But I'm just speculating, it can happen otherwise. And about that 30% cut, I've been reading about that on that here on the forums, where did that news came from?

I found the news about the 30% haircut on this page. The Greek government can't know what to expect on Monday because a possible exit from the Euro has never been done before. If their banks go bankrupt they will have to make tough choices.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/rogeraitken/2015/07/05/greek-economic-crisis-is-a-parallel-currency-the-answer/

Quote
The latest bail-in development, which apparently calls for a haircut of 30% on bank deposits over €8,000 (c.US$8,880), comes just after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned last week that the country required a massive further €60 billion (c.US$66bn) in funds

Someone else found out that the Greek government might stop people withdrawing anything from their safety deposit boxes in banks.

Wow, so much for Greeks who thought they were keeping their cash safe in bank vaults...

"Greeks cannot withdraw cash left in safe deposit boxes at Greek banks as long as capital restrictions remain in place, a deputy finance minister told Greek television on Sunday."

agreed with the Greeks working for BTC, accepting it instead of credit. It's not going to make a huge difference this time around, too late this time, but this is the perfect opportunity for a true BTC ecosystem to occur. If everyone was using BTC for every purchase and being paid in BTC, that is actually the true point of the whole experiment. NOT buy/sell/moon. That economy is just specious.

Isn't there a website that gives you a virtual debit card number that you can use online like a real debit card, and top it up with Bitcoin? If there is the Greeks could use it to avoid the blockade against Greek online debit card purchases currently in force? it would let the Greeks use Bitcoin for purchases in a roundabout way.

Edit/

There are more virtual credit cards you can top up with Bitcoin than I thought. Top of the list is BitPlastic.

29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leaving eurozone - Greece & Bitcoin on: July 05, 2015, 07:28:09 PM
...

GREECE is an excellent reason for there to be more BTC ATMs.  Last I heard there was just one for all of Greece.

There is talk of a 30% haircut for bank accounts over $100,000 euros there in Greece...

We need more BTC ATMs everywhere.  And STAT!

It's worse than that, they are going to stop people taking cash out of their safety deposit boxes held in Greek banks. That's really crappy and a good reason to buy Bitcoins. It goes to show you can't trust the bank with your money in a crisis.

Wow, so much for Greeks who thought they were keeping their cash safe in bank vaults...

That reminds me of when the US made possession of large amounts of gold illegal, and nobody could open a safety deposit box without an official there to check it didn't contain gold. The Greek government will no doubt force Greeks to open their safety deposit boxes in front of an official, and deduct 30% of any money in there for the bank's bail in. They would have been better off buying Bitcoin.

Official Now

61- NO
39- Yes

I expected it to be closer than that. Before the referendum started everyone said it was 50/50. If the final results mirror the preliminary results then it's a clear majority in favor of no. It will be fascinating to find out what the exact final count will be.

Bitcoin is going up since OXI (no) was said to be the winner by various polls. The small pump started when the first results were given, but it is not settled yet, it can still change.

I didn't think the Greeks conducted exit polls. Can you post some links to where you got your information from please?

The last thing I read said it was 50/50 but it was based on old information. Plus everything can change on the actual voting day.
33  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 05, 2015, 03:43:41 PM
anyone can explain to me why is there such a large gap between BTC-e and the other exchanges BTC-USD price ?

It's a bit of a world unto itself. It can be much more fiddly and expensive to get USD in and out of there compared to other exchanges due to the multitude of third party services you have to use.

This has been commented on in a number of bitcointalk threads and that was the answer that came up most frequently. I think it might be because either its withdrawal or trading fees are much higher than on the other exchanges. However, I have never traded on BTC-e and have no first hand experience.

Do you mean this Robert "Bob" Duskes is now broke? I had to Google for the name and this came near the top. Is he affiliated with the blocknet in any way? I have yet to find out what the blocknet is, but I have noticed its name from time to time. What's all this stuff about scams, is that just to do with Bob, or is it also related to the blocknet??

that guy which placed that stupid 958 VTC ask at around 67k really doesn't want to make profits.

Compare to the future price, he might make some profit. Who knows.

Vertcoin has pumped to the moon quite a few times now. There are massive gaps between moonshots but if that guy has extreme patience he might just get lucky. It might take a year or more but who's to say what vertcoin is capable of in the future.
