Any updates from the team concerning the hack, exchanges etc?

Please let us know. Thank you!

He is mostly right, although I don't believe that US-based VCs would not invest offshore IF SEC put screws on "crypto" in US.
It is very easy for them to spawn a subsidiary on some island and proceed from there.
BTW, Fidelity already opened up some beta site for retail investment in something they call "bitcoin", but, apparently, you cannot withdraw such 'bitcoin", lol.
Fake bitcoin would be the next "thing" among banks, me thinks.

I read that twitter story by Mark Moss and I should apologize in advance if my questions are way too newbish...  I am very new to crypto

I invested in btc and some altcoins and I really believe that btc is the future. While this Mark's does make sense to me, I have had some questions though...

If SEC could be so tough to declare all crypto except btc as a security why they have not won that battle against XRP for such a long time?

Since SEC is a regulating authority, shouldn't it its decisions be approved by both senate and congress before going public which seems hard to me since they belong to two different parties now?

What about btc forks (I know most of them is a total crap) - how would SEC decide which of them is a security and which not?

On a larger scale - all real POW projects -  how to spot a security vs non-security. It just seems to me very time consuming job for SEC given that lengthy battle against XRP...

My personal take on this (I could be wrong of course) that just an announcement that SEC starts its review whether all crypto is a security will likely put entire crypto market into a lengthy bearish season...

Any insights would be appreciated....

PS I also anticipate a bunch of lawyers from large crypto projects suing SEC obviously they dont want to loose their money because of SEC
good questions...

Because both parties are throwing 100 of mil (minimum) at each other. i don't really know the current score. If XRP to disappear, bitcoin would not be affected.

the question of forks is not relevant anymore due to their size or the lack of it.

Why is this? It's all Howey-test based idiocy anyway. The world DOES NOT care about security/not security...it's SEC who are obsessed over it due to, I guess, the desire to "regulate" everything.

If you are angling to predict when is the good time to invest (if ever), then you will never DO IT.
Your loss.

But the world does care about the US financials including SEC... and FED's hikes clearly show it... unfortunately...

I was not angling at a lower price for BTC and some altcoins, I am using a DCA strategy anyway. I personally think that now is a very good price to buy btc regardless of future SEC actions...

However, my concern that SEC actions can put all crypto including btc into a bearish chaos...

Does it make sense

24  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy back bonds and BTC price on: October 14, 2022, 06:08:15 PM
I also did not notice btc price change after that but the US market might be a bit more "influential" in terms of a potential boost. Idk

Yep. US is much more "influential".

"As of 2021, the size of the bond market (total debt outstanding) is estimated to be at $119 trillion worldwide and $46 trillion for the US market"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bond_market

Its close to 40% while UK is only around <$2T - 1.5%

So I can assume that US bond market is more than 25 times more "influential". Will it affect bitcoin price? I think that there are not many things stronger than 'we print again' announcment.

So how likely this buy back will even happen? What do you think? Merely a speculation?
25  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy back bonds and BTC price on: October 14, 2022, 05:51:39 PM
The UK has £1.6 trillion in "gilts" and the central Bank offered to buyback up to £65billion and barely anything happened to the markets (except currency and stock market boosts) - perhaps the US could see the same but I think these were mostly from the bank intervening and it's unclear whether it was just that that boosted confidence and not the buybacks (especially since the £65bn limit was nowhere near being utilised - it was about half by the end of the first week so they might've paid up to £40bn on it I can't find where the data is).

I am wondering if the US Treasury deciding buy back US bonds will have a major effect on btc price.

How likely this buy back will even happen?

"The U.S. Treasury Department is asking primary dealers of U.S. Treasuries whether the government should buy back some U.S. government bonds to improve liquidity in the $24 trillion market."

@vanorton, @EmmaWu how about Lightning Network for BGL?
Up for this question.

Hi guys, Lightning Network technically should be supported by BGL as we are continuously syncing with BTC codebase and this feature should be present 'out of the box'.
Currently there is a space in the blocks for your tx to get there comfortably, so no urgent need for Lightning on BGL, but technically it is there.
Anyone could set up a payment channel if they want to, why not.

because I saw some bridge posts having a bit of a problem, so I bought WBGL on pancakeswap, and it worked fine.
hope to buy more WBGL in this month.  Wink

I did not say that I could not buy WBGL from the bridge. I stated that I could not transfer my BGL coins from my wallet to the bridge no matter what RPC I used and there were plenty of wbgl coins available on bsc network. Why dont you read my posts one more time and this time do it carefully?

PS I used to be a great advocate of this project, just read my previous posts. However, I think that team should provide some updates concerning this project. I believe that Emma was talking about hiring a marketing person back in April of 2022, then there was some talk about a publication in a tier 1 journal, there were also some questions from the community regarding exchanges and lightning network that went unanswered... Dont get me wrong, this project is great and has a great potential but the team needs to provide some updates to the community if they want to keep this project flowing through the bearish times and keep trust from the community.

PS2 I still dont know if the problem with the bridge was fixed because right now there are no wbgl coins to swap through the bridge so I cant test it.

Thank you for the feedback and your support! The main problem is to find a proper person to take care of marketing, unfortunately the search still goes on (open for proposals here), but the activity is present nonetheless, check recent articles.
We are pretty consistent on providing updates at 2nd post in this thread, it's regularly updated, check it out:

Don't worry BGL is here to stay.

Dear Emma,

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I have been testing the bridge by sending BGL coins from my wallet via BSC network and it works fine. Thank you for fixing it.

I think BGL has a very bright future. I personally seeing this as an opportunity to buy a unique blockchain and a better version of BTC at such a ridiculously cheap price.

Do you still plan a publication in a tier 1 journal? Please let us know.

PS May I suggest something that would be potentially helpful? What of you or someone from the team will make either bi-weekly or a monthly brief ( a few sentences) report on BGL progress right here, on this thread? This would help BGL community to stay on the top of things. Please let us know.

PS 2 Best of luck with finding a suitable candidate for marketing.

I know that folks like Warren Buffett / Alan Greenspan told us the US will never default on its debt but just in theory, how much impact the default will have on BTC and crypto? Should we even worry that "printing" will stop?

There is still a problem with a bridge on BSC network, although bglswap has been showing that there are 33009 wbgl coins, all transfers from BGL wallet are being returned. Its been for several days by now... Angry

Please take a look, thanks for your help.

To BGL team:

A bit of update concerning the bridge

I am still experiencing a problem with a bridge. I tried remove any address from RPC node and literally any amount of coins that I try to send out from my wallet through the bridge via BSC are being returned. I previously tried various addresses for RPC nodes and still no success.

In the mean time I have sent my BGL coins to Hotbit and there was no issue. So there is there is something with the bridge.

Just giving some head ups. Please take a look. Thank you for your help.

Hi guys,

I want to announce possible interesting changes to BGL that we plan to start working on following months,
as always, your thoughts and opinions are most valuable, please participate:
https://bitgesell.ca/download/bglips/bglip1.pdf

we are announcing this publicly too:
https://[Suspicious link removed]day/bitgesell-bgl-introduces-dynamic-block-size-for-more-efficient-tokenomics

if you want to join the project please participate in BGL GitCoin program https://gitcoin.co/issue/29030,
if you have model proposals for dynamic block size calculation, let's discuss here.

hi Emma - this is another great update, thanks!

I think that the BGL bridge may have some problems. I have been trying to send some BGL from my wallet through the bridge via BSC network and no matter how small transaction is, all coins are returning within minutes. Right now bglswap shows that more than 19K available on BSC network but I cant even send 100 BGL. I also tried 2 different RPC nodes:

https://pool.bitaps.com/
 https://bglnode.online

but no success. Please help

PS Hope your publication in a tier 1 journal goes well Smiley

I am sure that BGL team does not want to waste their efforts during this bearish season and we will hear a lot of good news such as the publication in tier one journal or good exchanges once the trend will turn around  Wink I hope to see BTC will go up before mid term elections (mid October -  November) and BGL will likely follow. November is usually a good month for crypto as well.

If not, then I will hodl till next halving. Not a biggie.

In the mean time, I just filled my bag with cheap BGL  Smiley Thanks FRC  Smiley

Good news for BGL: Hotbit is back!

However, there are only few seller orders, only buyer orders unless the seller is willing to go much higher.

At least one exchange in addition to the bridge.

There are a few transactions stuck on the bridge now. Please help

Tx is still stuck into the bridge for 10 days. 5fce97e0fbd67d02fd9a8fffa6f8d4169eafcbbaa4ed01ba651a5f03cd214632.

Hey Castor, the tx should have been refunded day before yesterday, please check. Sorry it was missed.

hey Vanorton

There are more stuck transactions on the bridge. Please check. Thank you!

Hi dear community

I want to announce (and we can publicly confirm) this address to be the address with 'burnt' coins
in addition to the coins being burnt within tx fees.
So that anyone could burn a portion of coins on their own discretion (within a project activity, etc.)

The address is: bgl1q00000000000000000000000000000000tm54qt
(it is generated to be valid, last bytes are checksum, but no private key for it obviously)

Explorers and BGL Core could (and would) be eventually upgraded to count such coins burnt and out of circulation (I would ask our software contributors to take this address into consideration).

What are the features of this?
- we can count what amounts were sent to this address, from where for any period of time;
- we can create different mechanics on top of that: captcha mechanism to send some amount, contest-lottery "burn the ticket"  0.1 bgl = 1 ticket, DAO mechanics (who burns more in a period get more voting power or burn to create a proposal), burn can be a provable reputational merit (a factor of prestige, status as a luxury good, like expensive watch, car etc.)

Would like to see your opinions, ideas for contests, mechanics for this thing!

Dear Emma, any updates on listing of BGL on exchanges? Right now there is no exchange one can buy BGL from... Please let us know! Thanks!!!
38  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BTC redundant code / latent bug please explain on: August 20, 2022, 03:28:51 AM
Just curious how BGL and BTC will do in terms of ROI during next several months and during next bullran whenever its going to happen...
Just remember that there is a difference between making profit and the coin being actually good to have a long term potential. For example during 2017 there were altcoins that didn't even have a blockchain anymore (were literary dead) and yet they got pumped more than 500%.

I understand your concern and totally agree. There is literally no such thing as "safe" altcoin and Luna is a good example of it.

I dont know if you had a chance to go through bitcointalk thread focused on BGL as well as its github but my personal impression was that its basically a bunch of talented programmers who have been working on a low budget for like 2 years. To me, it a good sign because it shows their dedication to crypto rather than making a quick profit as in most of these garbage meme, defi etc. projects aiming to make quick money and quit. Its giving a bit of hope that they will continue their work through some possible challenging times ahead like this current bearish trend. I am not naive and I understand there is still some risk involved.

The downside of course is that BGL programmers did not care much about marketing and only this year they decided to hire a professional marketing guy and publish an article in tier 1 journal.

I cross my fingers for this project and for bitcoin and hope that more people will understand the true value of blockchain in the future. As someone new to crypto, I keep discovering something new everyday and I am really enjoying it.

39  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: BTC redundant code / latent bug please explain on: August 18, 2022, 03:32:27 PM
I am not really in a position to argue about these comments as I am very new to crypto. I actually invested in both BTC and BGL as I like both.

From my own experience, when I sent out BGL, I only paid like around 0.0003 cents and the bridge on both ETH and BSC was an interesting experience as well. It actually felt great to buy quite a bag of BGL paying around $400 (yes, I am a small investor  Cheesy hence no point to argue too!). I invested the same amount in BTC when it was like 20k.

Just curious how BGL and BTC will do in terms of ROI during next several months and during next bullran whenever its going to happen...

Probably will not comment anymore as I got the thing with ubuntu and the code. Thanks again. Good luck to everyone!

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 bitgesell : Depends: libc6 (>= 2.27) but 2.23-0ubuntu11.2 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Should I use a later version of Ubuntu?

Yes. You cannot upgrade the libc version on your system without upgrading the distribution version (i.e. the entire operating system).

Thank you, it worked!
