21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is very safe coin because of good developers on: December 28, 2023, 05:38:10 PM
if you care more about core devs than you do about the network. you already lost
I don't care about core devs, I care about results of core devs and Bitcoin's result is a consistent history of good code and good work made by core devs to reject stupid decisions.
In comparison, all forks have failed miserably.
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Know your facts: Fundamental differences between Bitcoin and Ethereum on: December 28, 2023, 05:34:59 PM
Earlier, I have had a much more positive view about Altcoins but when reviewing opinions of computer scientists, coders and developers, it looks like Ethereum can’t compete against Bitcoin at all.

In an earlier topic I’ve already listed important characteristics why Bitcoin is an advanced and safe coin:

1. Bitcoin is well reviewed

When Bitcoin was invented, it was set up to be a big security. Hacks should be impossible and get prevented by good code. Bitcoin attracted and still has a very large community of really educated developers.
Bitcoin has a very reliable coder community, where flaws will be detected early before implementation and no risks are being taken. Many much smaller coins have a very flawed code review process.
A large and educated coder community reviewing code during testing times is an important advantage for Bitcoin.

And luckily, it saves us from possible hacks, when hackers are prevented from detecting flaws faster because all flaws are removed before implementation.
We have seen so many hacks, where a flawed code was exploited and people lost money, like for Altcoin cross chain bridges recently or when Terra Luna failed.
Still, people are buying coins from unreliable coders like Tron from Justin Sun or even weaker DeFi coins like Acala Stablecoin from Polkadot’s supplier Web 3.
Unfortunately, some people will only learn after a loss.

Some coins are very centralized and have a single point of failure like Solana, when it was down several times or devs have much power like in Binance Coin or Tron.
And DeFi coins can easily print some more coins / tokens into existence.
Bitcoin is having a big advantage here.

2. Bitcoin has PoW

It is big controversy for a long time, if a coin makes PoW or PoS, like it was for Ethereum [ETH]. Not for Bitcoin because Bitcoin developers have decided PoW is best because of security. From what Experts have said so far, PoW is very hard or almost impossible to compromise instead of PoS, where more attack vectors can be found. Like Corona, we should trust mayority of experts who have education and experience in an issue. Satoshi implemented PoW not PoS because Satoshi knew. He was very experienced and called it right.
PoS can be abused by rich stakers and makes a project centralized in many ways like premined coins and devs can create much influence by staking a large amount of PoS coins. PoW is not having such issues.

3. Security is Bitcoin’s priority

As for a safe cryptocurrency, security standards are very important. First point, we need security standards and Satoshi implemented it right himself, when he developed Bitcoin. Early Bitcoin developers added more security standards. Second point is after some time, to NOT remove such security standards. First point and especially second point are relevant to many Altcoins, which is a big issue for Altcoins.
Many Altcoins don’t offer anymore to create private and public keys to prove ownership of funds and access it. It is very concerning and seems mind blowing to many experienced coders.
For example, when creating a Solana wallet or similar new Altcoins. Altcoin developers are not focussing on security.
Or even MEW is bitching around more and more every time going away by implementing insecure patches. We need to have our private key offline.
Many Altcoins are leaving people vulnerable which is very concerning.
Bitcoin is better like Electrum for example. Its design is not so nice but Electrum is good tech and recommended by many experts.

Bitcoin is still having very high security standards today because of Bitcoin does not want to build a hype coin, Bitcoin wants to build a safe coin.
It is our duty to select a safe coin instead of an unsafe hype coin.

But now, a direct comparison to Ethereum should be drawn because it’s also always an opportunity when someone has bought Ethereum (or a different Altcoin) and he wants to have arguments for or against each coin in direct comparison.
In such cases, it is all about an accurate research and argument and also for education for us to really know a fact about fundamental differences between Bitcoin and Ethereum to get a direct comparison.
Maybe experienced members can elaborate a list of valid arguments, especially for such points, when comparing Bitcoin’s and Ethereum’s fundamentals:
- developers of Ethereum have too much power
- nodes and miners in Bitcoin vs. nodes and miners in Ethereum
- Ethereum code changes can be done much easier compared to Bitcoin
- Ethereum history vs. Bitcoin history (which coin is more stablished)
 + more points of importance

When someone is asking me or I need to explain and compare fundamental differences between Bitcoin and Ethereum, I would be happy to give a good explanation, why Ethereum can’t compete against Bitcoin.
I’ll be happy to see your answers, read and review it.  Smiley
23  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / About Taproot on: December 23, 2023, 06:22:47 PM
Taproot is active now for a while and for Bitcoin's progress, it seems to be a decent step after native SegWit, where bech32 addresses were introduced.

I'm not a coder and it’s hard to understand to read texts from coders but getting informed about Taproot and doing research about it is a good idea in my opinion.
We just need a good text, good source or knowledgeable person to give insight and what I'm trying to ask here is: if it's possible for a knowledgeable person, preferably coder, to give insights about Taproot in a normal way (not for coders):

I already know a Taproot address looks like

bc1pxxxxxxxxx

and it is also cheaper for transactions.

But here it is, where it's starting to get difficult.

What is important to know about Taproot?
Implications / goals of Taproot?
How does Taproot compare to bech32 (cheap fees?)
Risks / limits of Taproot?

Educated sources explaining it (not from a coding perspective) but in a normal way, easy to understand if we are not coders, is what I’m looking forward to.

Happy to read your answers.  Smiley
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is very safe coin because of good developers on: December 23, 2023, 05:54:00 PM
Now there are so many altcoins, but they cannot still become better than Bitcoin
You are right. It is really a big fact how all Altcoins have never achieved to surpass Bitcoin.
Bitcoin is still number one despite so many new Altcoins launched, despite so much money spent to develop and to promote a "better" coin.

It is a big proof how good Bitcoin's developers, how good Bitcoin's technology and fundamentals really are.
25  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: @Active Members of Bitcointalk: Why have you created an Account here? on: December 23, 2023, 05:50:53 PM
In Bitcointalk's latest Mixer ban, Altcoinstalks made an appearance because many Mixer campaigns will be on Altcointalks now.
I'm not active on Altcoinstalks currently because many topics are much more interesting on Bitcointalk but checking out Altcoinstalks now might result in better discussions on Altcoinstalks, when more members are active:

Biggest disadvantage from Altcoinstalks: Activity has been very low and for many topics only few replies have been left.

Hello

Is your BitcoinTalk Notification BOT also getting active, when a post, where I'm mentioned or quoted, gets edited? Will it cause a notification?
27  Economy / Reputation / Re: I have spent 100 days of my life logged on bitcointalk! on: November 29, 2023, 09:55:47 PM

Congrats for unlocking your achievements!
Yesterday, I saw someone else, who has 100 days, too.
It's really big milestone.

Maybe you can bring an update, when it is 200 days for you.

Do I take it that there was a period (stretch of months) you weren't active on the forum? I ask these because I'm almost 30 days over the 100-day logged in period you've and my account was registered in 2017.
Probably some people are more active, some people are less active. Like every day 1 hour or 2 hours. Or only 1 hour every 2 days.

28  Economy / Reputation / Re: What would happen, if Satoshi Nakamoto's account would wake up? on: November 29, 2023, 09:48:13 PM
It won’t happen cos the account was banned by theymos to prevent drama that could steer up if a hacker should gain access to it.
Wow, I did not know, happy to have your answer. I will lock my topic now.  Smiley
29  Economy / Reputation / What would happen, if Satoshi Nakamoto's account would wake up? on: November 29, 2023, 09:37:26 PM
Just in case, what would happen, if Satoshi Nakamoto's account would wake up?
It's really hard to imagine, he could be active again but it's always possible to happen, so what would happen in your opinion? It's a question for really interesting ideas.
30  Other / Archival / Re: Account Birthday on: November 29, 2023, 09:32:36 PM
Congrats on your achievement, OP!

On the 2nd November ten years ago I registered on bitcointalk. I was fascinated about the idea of decentralization and that everyone could be a part of the network. At that time I was just 16 years old and liked bitcointalk on the one hand because there was an incredible amount of meme shitposts and giveaways (bitcoin giveaways and not shitcoin drops like today), but on the other hand I was fascinated that random strangers on the internet would basically answer every question that could potentially arise about bitcoin.
Wow, looks like you are a very young member and when we are still young, we can learn a lot, when we dedicate our time for it.
If it is in our free time or from a professionel side, we can always expand our knowledge.
And as you have said, always ask a question to gain more knowledge!
31  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: @Active Members of Bitcointalk: Why have you created an Account here? on: November 29, 2023, 09:16:13 PM
It is indeed a forum of vast resourceful materials, as this is the only forum you could find a trace of the good works of "Satoshi Nakamoto".
Hello, bro
I know, yes. Satoshi was active on Bitcointalk and he announced Bitcoin here.
Even early development was done here, it is really impressive and I agree to you.

Satoshi Nakamoto is a really unique point for Bitcointalk.

No interview with theymos available? Or will theymos not reply because of privacy?
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: someone pays 83.65 $BTC ($3,136,058) in transaction fees, overpaying by 120,258 on: November 28, 2023, 09:17:03 PM
One of the reasons why using CEX will be far preferable than using a DEX. Most of my transactions on Bitget are usually free even as a BGB holder, but carrying out transactions on DEX will charge a lot.
But CEX has soo many downsides as well. Much more downsides in my opinion because Bitcoin is much safer, when it is not stored on CEX.
Why holding Bitcoin is we do it on a CEX?
We need to check transaction fees of course. But it is simple if we know.
If that Bitcoin had been passed through CEX then it wont happen because there would really be a specific fixed fees which it is really that not possible to have mistakes.
Yes, it won't happen but CEX has soo many downsides as well. Why trade one downside against 10 more downsides because CEX has lots of downsides?
We should try to improve our knowlefge how to avoid transaction fee fail, not trust CEX instead.
35  Economy / Reputation / Re: 🛑 Be aware from these type of scammer 🚫 ☠ on: November 28, 2023, 09:12:45 PM
Scammers try to impersonate the accounts of well-known bounty managers and project admins on Telegram to deceive the victims. I block many scammers daily. Telegram is frankly now crowded with scammers. Therefore, there is a sentence that was able to thwart their fraudulent actions through impersonating accounts, which is (Admin Never DM you first), meaning that anyone who sends you a direct message first knows that he is a 100% scammer, so it is wrong to trust any account on Telegram without making sure that the person who is messaging you is the real person or not. You, @OP, have already mentioned several good points for verification. Also, any bounty manager does not ask for money from the people who work in his campaigns, as this is his job, and he receives his salary from the project owners, and of course, he does not need any financial assistance or the like.
It is a big question to me, why people still fall for such scam.
Telegram scam is a huge dumb scam and I can't believe how dumb some people are, really!
Mabye 95% of PM on Telegram are scam and it's always similar scam tactics.
It's always where we have to send funds. WE have to send.

How is such dumb scam tactics still profitable for Telegram scammers?  Huh
36  Economy / Reputation / Re: Any Rules for Bounty Manager? on: November 28, 2023, 09:08:40 PM
Also I think every participant knows very well every risk they accept before joining the bounty, but now as if voicing to mark the bounty campaign manager for feeling unpaid, cheated by the bounty manager, etc. if there is no evidence or strong allegation to mark the bounty manager then it will not work effectively it maybe can even be considered as an abuse of trust.
Bounty manager can also define to put all campaigns funds into a trusted Bitcointalk escrow service, where all funds will be kept safe from untrusted people or even hack.
He can prove it publicly by involving an escrow service and participants can see ii in Bitcoin's Blockchain publicly.
Bounty mananger can't cheat, funds will be safu.
The issues with what you propose are if all managers were required to put funds/tokens in escrow then more than half of the managers currently wouldn't have jobs. They are getting the jobs they get now because teams are looking for the cheapest guy out there and gives them a chance to run off without paying if the sale doesn't go the way they want it to. Your basic bounty managers would not be open to this being a MUST rule.
Important point, it is also about trust of a bounty manager.
How many projects has he done or how many funds had he held.

Joining a bounty is a gamble. 50/50 chance to be paid or not be paid. No manager I don't think has a perfect record(I could be wrong). If you have doubts about a manager or team, just don't join that bounty.
You are right.
It is a gamble but we have many opportunities to increase our profit chances. Like you say, only join trusted manager's bounty and have a look at terms and also project legitimacy.
37  Economy / Reputation / Re: How secure are you when unknown user chats you up? on: November 28, 2023, 09:04:52 PM
It is always a question if we can be tracked by simply clicking a link, or malware from a picture from a chat, like Telegram. For some chat, it is hard to know what attempt each scammer is trying.

Can a coder explain maybe?
How safe is it to download a picture, video, click link, when a stranger writes it to us in a normal chat?
In, for example, Telegram?

Congrats, bro!
Your achievement is very inspiring!

Newbie, if reading these longreads doesn't tire you and you don't fall asleep Smiley, then it would be nice if this inspires someone to new achievements, both personal and public.
Your written words are a good story for encouragement for every low ranked member on Bitcointalk.
It might look like a very long way to go but when we start it, we are getting closer step by step!

Keep walking!
40  Economy / Reputation / Re: Say Something about your Bitcointalk Mentor. on: November 27, 2023, 10:16:27 PM
What's a Bitcointalk mentor?
I would say: Satoshi Nakamoto is Bitcointalk mentor because he made Bitcoin and Bitcointalk happen.
Of course, we could call him mentor.
Big pity, he's not active anymore.
