21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ApplePay doesn't solve this. on: September 27, 2014, 03:14:22 AM
You're right, but most people don't care about inflation - they don't even realize its existence. The majority does not consider the effects of inflation on savings. Also, ApplePay is built to offer an easier way to spend money, it's not a savings account. That said, I doubt you'll be able to convince ApplePay users to switch to Bitcoin, because they don't even see inflation as a problem.

That will change when inflation accelerates (eventually reaching hyperinflation) and becomes an important factor to consider in purchase decisions. Then a lot of people will regret not having bought Bitcoin.

ya.ya.yo!
The reason people don't worry about the effect of inflation on their savings is because they are generally able to earn more in interest and investment returns then inflation will eat away. Look at long term returns on the stock market for example, it has historically allowed investors to earn ~7% on their investment after accounting for inflation
22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal Integrating Bitcoin soon. on: September 27, 2014, 03:09:14 AM
I wonder when Paypal will actually integrate it into the wallet at paypal.com.   They seem to be testing the waters in the ways that they are allowing it right now.   They aren't making it too public, like if  you were just to log into your paypal account, you wouldn't have the slightest idea that they support BTC.

Hopefully everything comes off smoothly in this integration so that they can start picking it up on a larger scale.   This will fast track us to more mainstream adoption, which we all want.
I doubt this will happen. This would cause a huge security risk as all of a sudden there would be a much greater incentive to try to hack paypal then before as you could potentially steal the bitcoin held by them. It would also effectively take away a lot of the consumer protections that PP gives buyers who use PP (and use it because of the protections)
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The protocol of bitcoin can be limitlessly replicated on: September 27, 2014, 03:06:56 AM
You can replicate the protocol, but you have no way to replicate the hash power and network, which is the physical foundation of bitcoin. Altcoins do not have so strong physical foundation like bitcoin, so they are more like software which can be endlessly copied and worth nothing in turn

Actually it is this physical foundation gave bitcoin value. Imagine that someday bitcoin forked to another protocol without using sha256 hashing, then some other coin which uses sha256 hashing will utilize all these physical infrastructure and become as valuable, just like those GPUs abandoned by bitcoin miners turned to litecoin mining instead

Then why does many Proof of Stake altcoin that doesn't need any hash rate, also has value? In fact they have mostly beaten their PoW altcoin competitors. Only Bitcoin and Litecoin has more value, but they also had 3-4 years head start. I would bet Litecoin will soon be beaten, in a year or so. How do you explain these PoS networks all growing in value?
Speculation. People are willing to invest in scamcoins with the hope that their value will increase over time. Just because a coin has been in existence for a long time does not mean that it will have a higher market cap then a similar coin that has been around for a shorter time.
24  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The world badly needs an independent Scotland on: September 16, 2014, 06:07:12 AM
Would the UK even be able to continue on without Scotland? At least London isn't trying simultaneous secession.... maybe ought to. I just like watching the chaos, though. Cheesy
I believe that Scotland only makes up a small portion of the UK population and a similar portion of the UK economy. Sure they have oil reserves (however they could possibly be still controlled by the UK in the event of succession).
25  Other / Politics & Society / Re: USA Ranks #32 in World Taxing Policy Index on: September 16, 2014, 06:04:37 AM
This is sad but true. This is also why so many businesses are taking steps to move overseas. The long term effects of the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world will be lower economic growth domestically and lower overall tax revenues.
26  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Electric utilities are blowing cost of energy theft out of proportion on: September 01, 2014, 08:55:59 PM
What if the bus is full (in your analogy), someone not paying for a bus fare would prevent a paying customer from getting on the bus and well paying.

The same concept is true with electricity. If the electric company is selling all the electricity it is providing then it will not sell it to someone who is paying for the product.
27  Other / Politics & Society / Re: what dont you guys get about Snowden and the NSA? on: September 01, 2014, 08:50:58 PM
The thing is that the NSA is taking it far beyond what people assumed. The amount of power they have in an information age such as this is unparalleled. It turned out that it was even worse then most tin foil hatters believed.
No one could even imagine the technology that the NSA appears to be employing.

I have always wondered how Russian hackers are able to inflict so much damage, but apparently the NSA is able to pull off the same kinds of attacks and then some.
28  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 9 year old girl kills bloke stone dead with full auto machine gun on: September 01, 2014, 08:46:24 PM
Now, that's a great family vacation video, such good parenting...
I wouldn't blame the parents so much. Yes, it is not appropriate to have a 9 year old shooting a gun, however the instructor should have known just how much recoil the gun would have when compared to the average strength of someone this small.
29  Other / Off-topic / Re: what do you do to keep fit ? on: August 08, 2014, 01:54:01 AM
Move my mouse a lot, have long walks to the bathroom, run to safety when I switch the lights off Cheesy
HAHA it doesn't sound like you are in very good shape.
30  Other / Off-topic / Re: How long have you been logged in for? on: August 08, 2014, 01:51:08 AM
2 hours ad 26 minutes to date.
31  Other / Off-topic / Re: IF YOU HAD 1,000,000 DOLLARS WHAT WOULD YOU BUY??? on: August 08, 2014, 01:49:19 AM
50% use to build my house and 50% will invested into bitcoin and altcoins.
altcoins are a horrible investment. I would go all in with bitcoin.
32  Other / Off-topic / Re: Google: cost of an ounce of gold on: August 08, 2014, 01:41:36 AM
Sell bitcoin and buy gold. Gold will always have value.
The value of gold is much less then what the market gives it. The value of gold is from it's perceived store of value.

Happy birthday. Whatever you do be sure to make it fun.
34  Other / Off-topic / Re: Did I just discover a lost civilization in the Yucatan? (Seriously!) on: August 08, 2014, 01:38:18 AM
Why not survey the area personally. Hire some volunteers and get funding from kicstarters or indiegogo.
This could potentially be dangerous. What if the civilization is violent and does not like outsiders. There are many tribes that are like this.
35  Other / Off-topic / Re: I need some Facebook account on: August 08, 2014, 01:37:00 AM

There is an offer to sell a facebook  fan page account on digital goods forum:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=728978.0

Only 4 bitcoins
That is way too much money for a facebook account. There is no way any account is worth that much, it has no way to generate any revenue.
36  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Marijuana sting: Bees attack police destroying cannabis plot on: August 08, 2014, 01:35:01 AM
This sounds like it was a sting operation.
37  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Breaking: Obama considering airstrikes in Iraq on: August 08, 2014, 01:33:43 AM
Bad tactic. If Obama is serious about countering the ISIS, then he should give high grade advanced weaponry to the Kurdish Peshmerga troops who are fighting the ISIS in Northern Iraq.
This would not be smart. This is asking for it to end up in the hands of terrorists. I think Obama should never of pulled out of Iraq as they simply did not have the security to do so yet.

The US is going to eventually have to commit troops to Iraq m
I doubt Obama will send troops back to Iraq until at least after the election.

I am personally surprised that Obama is doing anything at all about Iraq considering how he is handling other international conflicts.
38  Other / Politics & Society / Re: BREAKING NEWS: American Patriots Militia Groups taking down the Federal Reserve on: August 08, 2014, 01:31:49 AM
The OP is crazy. This would never happen, not that some people don't want to do this.
39  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is a hot target for criminals and money launderers. on: July 27, 2014, 07:52:42 PM
Bitcoin's concept of anonymity is a hot target for the greedy. Its structure helps criminals do their criminal acts. They can easily participate on illegal transactions without being traced (or a high possibility of not being traced) by the authority. Decentralization also helps them in accomplishing some serious thefts and laundering because nobody has the power to freeze their money unless they're traced by the government. This is just one of the many things why merchants all over the world doesn't accept the idea of using bitcoin into their business. It seems to risky for them to touch knowing that there are many possibilities that they can be victimized by theft and frauds.

Another uninformed post...

Bitcoin is not anonymous; it is pseudonymous. It offers more transparency than fiat does. Can you tell me how many criminal hands have touched that dollar in your wallet? Bitcoin can tell you how many times a coin in any address has moved. Is your problem related to the fact that you don't know who the owners of the past addresses are? The last time I checked, I don't know who that store cashier who gave me my change was. Should I spend the next 2 years locating that person to find out if that person is a criminal? Fiat is the most anonymous form of currency. Why do you think illegal drug and gun sales are cash-only transactions?

Bitcoin also offers greater protection to the merchant than any other digital payment processor can. Chargebacks are impossible, which means that theft and fraud are irrelevant in a legitimate merchant-based transaction. How could a merchant be victimized by a customer if the merchant always gets paid first? If the merchant is allowing the customer to pay later, then that's an issue with the merchant's business practices and not with Bitcoin. If you were a cashier in a store, would you let a customer that you've never seen before pay for goods with an IOU and a maybe-not-fake ID?

How many times has all of this been discussed before? 10 million? 20? 50? Maybe more than Bitcoin's entropy set for addresses?

My point is that bitcoin's structure and nature is affecting its adoption and use by the general public. I agree with you that the payment system offered by bitcoin is more secure than any other payment processors out there, but the mere fact that it's also used for shady transactions and any other fraudulent works make it unappealing for those who might use it. Fiat can also be used for this kind of transactions, but using it is very easy to trace.
your point that bitcoin is used in fraudulent transaction is really only true for online transactions. Cash is still preferred for in person crimes. Also cash is often used for very illegal purposes but people still use cash without question.
40  Economy / Economics / Re: Could take 5-8 years to shrink Fed portfolio: Yellen on: July 27, 2014, 07:30:14 PM
They've just pulled off one of the biggest land grabs in history, they're hardly going to swap it for empty promises now. No, it makes far more sense to run the economy into the ground and be holding real value when it all starts up again.

Real value are from production. When they law discourage production and encourage speculation, real wealth will eventually leave the country.
production is important in order to be able to create value however companies need land in order to produce their product.
