I'm confused on how to even make an account. Everytime I try to set it up I get '

"Password contains common text"

But I don't see anywhere where there are rules on the password other than length and I've tried just letters, letters and numbers, and letters with numbers and special characters soooo...

Radeon users: Catalyst 11.6 + SDK 2.1 seems to be the golden combination for 4xxx and 5xxx miners.

Is this referring to the whole Catalyst suite including the OpenCL, Display, and ATI Integrated Drivers? Or just the actual program? Apologies if it's a n00b question.

Catalyst didn't used to come with the SDK, it does now. That text is out of date due to the new kernel, its now 12.2 is recommended, use the SDK that comes with it.

Okay thanks!

It does conflict. For Bitcoin:

    run_p2pool User Pass --worker-port 9335 --p2pool-port 9336

Have your miner mine with IP 9335

    Litecoin:

    Just run with --net litecoin
changing the bitcoin port fixes the issue
    make sure your rpcport=9332

You are a genius. Thank you.

So i have given over 24 hours to Pool-x.eu
and I am very pleased with the results.

26876 shares
13.496 LTC

average of

.000502158 / share

guess I'm not going back to PPS Cheesy

P2Pool im gonna have to try next Smiley

See it works well! haha. I'm trying to sort out p2p pool but I think I like the predictability of pool-x.

So I'm still new to this and I'm trying to configure my cgminer/run_p2pool thing properly. I'm just curious if Cgminer is supposed to say that a 'share' is "Accepted" or "Rejected" because I traditionally get a couple Accepted when I first run the program than 90% of the time after that it says Rejected. Is this just because it's not actually getting shares or something?

What version of CGMiner are you using? I had a problem like that on 2.2.3, switching to 2.2.5 fixed it.

Version 2.2.1. I tried 2.2.5 previously but it really messed up my hashrate so I reverted back to 2.2.1.

no problem  Grin

LTC p2pool pays out well, just be patient to start with!

Yeah, I'm testing out BTC p2pool and apparently it conflicts with litecoin's default port. Will the p2pool have the same problem, do you know?
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solo Mining LTC on: February 15, 2012, 06:50:17 PM
I'm sure that you'll make much more at Litecoin P2Pool!!  Wink

I would give it a try except I have no idea what pool you're talking about haha. Is it just called litecoin p2pool? Goog-ling it doesn't get me very far.

I'm on Windows 7 64-bit. And I made sure I didn't have double instances running right now. Curious... I am at a college campus and they may be blocking the port somehow. I guess I'll have to check if I still get the error if I'm somewhere not on campus and report back.

Do you have Litecoin running? IIRC, they use the same port by default. You'll need to tell either p2pool or Litecoin to use a different port, if that's the case.

I actually do have Litecoin running, didn't even think of that. I'll try that.

& for the people talking about whether the internet connection effects p2p or not, I will tell you when I find out!

This thread is massive and I can't find my problem by searching so here goes..

I used the n00b-guide plus the read me file to set up the pool and from cgminer sometimes it says Accepted and sometimes it says Rejected but Rejected much more than Accepted it appears.

The run p2p window says all the information like my payout address, the hashrate and estimated time for new block of the pool and my local hash rate at 0.0. The error I keep getting says..

Quote
Error binding to P2P port.  [Errno 10048]. Only one usage of each  socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. Retrying in 3 seconds...

And it just keeps doing that indefinitely with the other messages throughout.

Update:  We are still working on trying to undo what the hacker did.  I will pay everyone once we get up and running again.  Thanks for your patience.

We shall await your return!
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solo Mining LTC on: February 14, 2012, 02:12:54 AM
I started off on the pps website you're talking about but I ended up making more on average at pool-x.eu. I'm averaging about 18khs and on litecoinpool I made about 13~14ltc a day and on pool-x I make about 20 per day.
38  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 120% PPS Mining on: February 13, 2012, 07:49:53 AM
Are you still going to keep trying for the first block even with that whole hacking thing?
39  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining with ATI Radeon 5870M on: February 13, 2012, 07:49:10 AM
Ya id be very careful mining with laptop, definitely keep it on cooling pad with full fan speed.
I'm mining on a laptop, GPU isn't hotter than the GPUs in my desktops.

Anyway, the 5870M is a tuned 5770, so probably you can get the same kind of figures and do the same kind of tweaks as with a desktop 5770.

Oh I didn't know that! Thanks I'll have to look into that.

And I mine relatively close to 24/7 with my full fan. Works out fine.
