21  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto Compression Concept Worth Big Money - I Did It! on: September 06, 2013, 07:47:04 AM
OP, please read this page and hopefully you will understand why it's not possible to losslessly compress any data. Some data will actually get bigger: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigeonhole_principle

Now I have a _very_ simple example for you. Lets say we want to "compress" 2 bits of data. All the possible datasets are:

00
01
10
11

Now please compress those 4 datasets so that they will all get smaller. Impossible. Unless you use something like:

00 -> 0
01 -> 1
10 -> 10
11 -> 11

But then my next question will be:

Now please compress

0
1

Impossible again, since you've already used 0 and 1 to "compress" 00 and 01. So these 2 "datasets" will have to get bigger by definition, or you will have a collision.

The reason why compression works, is that it encodes sequences and often reoccurring patterns. But as we just saw, there will be datasets (random data) that will actually increase in size if a lossless compression algorithm is used on it. And it just so happens that movies and pictures are very similar to random data. Unless, of course, you use raw pictures/movies, but these files are huge. And believe me when I say you won't beat current algorithms which have been developed over the years by a lot of skillful people.

The thing I think you're missing, is this: You are talking about reference points. This dictionary to which these reference points point, also needs to be stored somewhere. And even if you use referencing, you will still run into the Pigeon Hole Principle. 2 bits of data have 4 possible combinations, so in order to be able to reference to those 4 possible combinations you need 4 different reference points.....Which require 2 bits of data.

Hope this helps. Smiley

23  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mtgox withdrawal: invalid bitcoin address, please confirm your input on: August 30, 2013, 12:05:45 PM
Happened to me too just right now. Tried 4 or 5 addresses, no one works.

Same here. I've already opened a ticket with them. Could you guys please do the same? There's a bigger chance they will have a look at it if more people complain. Thanks!

Yes  Sad

As usual for Ponzy-like schemes. Bahhhh and and it fails. And a few minutes ago everything was excellent...

Even if you both are currently getting errors, I think it's far too early to call this a collapse. I have a lot of experience with Japanese software and Japanese developers.. I am not trying to be discriminatory (I love the Japanese), but Japanese software, especially in terms of UI, is generally trash. It never functions properly and it's always a mess... A mess in the coding and a mess in the UI. I would not be surprised if this is just a bug caused by incompetent developer(s).

Yeah, I don't believe the collapse story he's telling. Probably a bug. An annoying one at that though.
25  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: August 30, 2013, 11:46:26 AM
Now I can't withdraw even BTC! Watch out - this can be not simple site malfunctioning! May be MtGox started it's collapse. (Details here).

Are you getting an  "Invalid bitcoin address, please confirm your input" error as well?

I withdrew BTC a few hours ago... It seemed very fast and reliable. Are you sure?

Yesterday, my withdrawals were fine. Today, not so much. Not sure what is going on. Probably a bug on their end. I've already submitted a ticket, but haven't received a reply yet.

27  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info security [FUNDS STOLEN] on: August 20, 2013, 03:06:51 PM
I've been using blockchain.info wallet directly in my Firefox, without installing any browser extension. Am I vulnerable to this bug?

You are vulnerable, yes. But since no funds were stolen from you (I presume?), the bug luckily wasn't triggered (it didn't use the same R value twice) as it seems some people are actively scanning the blockchain and stealing whenever the bug happens. The bug is already fixed according to Piuk. Just clear your browser cache and you should be safe again.

That made me puke in my mouth a little  Cry
I pay 0.18usd (approx) in the UK

At full speed scrypt pulls 760w from my wall, 610w for yac using latest version.

ezo

That's actually great man! I pay 0.03usd kWh but even then, every saving is good news.

Heh, I'm paying 0.29 USD per kWh =/

What kind of hashrate can you expect from an AMD 8350 with the current N-value with cpuminerd using AVX?

Obvious scam. As people already pointed out in this thread, the numbers do _not_ add up. Don't send him any money.

For all of those who want a working p2pool configuration I have made a fork here : https://github.com/hakabane/p2pool-altcoins.git

This is the one I am using at http://pool.bounceme.net:24397

By using this one you will be able to connect your node to mine (thought the bootstrap address).
I also defined new network id for digitalcoin p2pool network.
Please tell me if you want me to add your node to the bootstrap list.

I think it will be good if all the digitalcoin p2pool nodes use the same codebase.

Just use it with -net digital.

Thank you so much! Working perfectly Smiley

Added pools section with details for making your own P2pool. Than you akabane.

Thanks for the update! Quick correction: The source code that was posted earlier cannot be used if you want to connect to other P2Pool nodes. It doesn't contain any bootstrap addresses, and even if you add them manually (I did), it wouldn't connect to the pools because their ports are closed. The source akabane posted should work, although I haven't tested it myself yet.

Great, just what I was looking for! And I agree. All P2Pool nodes should use the same codebase. Otherwise P2Pool isn't really Peer2Peer. I always prefer running my own instance due to efficiency. Thanks again!

Does anyone know where I can get the P2Pool source for Digitalcoin? I'd like to run my own P2Pool locally (For myself to mine on, not as a public pool).
If it's not available, could one of the owners that are running a P2Pool share their source?
I would be very grateful. Thanks!

Hello,

You'd have to use the regular P2Pool source and compile the digitalcoind daemon.

p2pool git: https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool

networks.py add:

digital=math.Object(
        PARENT=networks.nets['digital'],
        SHARE_PERIOD=15, # seconds target spacing
        CHAIN_LENGTH=24*60*60//10, # shares
        REAL_CHAIN_LENGTH=24*60*60//10, # shares
        TARGET_LOOKBEHIND=200, # shares coinbase maturity
        SPREAD=30, # blocks
        IDENTIFIER='be43F6b8c6927210'.decode('hex'),
        PREFIX='b587193ba6d4749a'.decode('hex'),
        P2P_PORT=5477,
        MIN_TARGET=0,
        MAX_TARGET=2**256//2**20 - 1,
        PERSIST=False,
        WORKER_PORT=9500,
        BOOTSTRAP_ADDRS=''.split(' '),
        ANNOUNCE_CHANNEL='#p2pool-alt',
        VERSION_CHECK=lambda v: True,
    )

bitcoin/networks.py add:

digital=math.Object(
        P2P_PREFIX='fbc0b6db'.decode('hex'),
        P2P_PORT=7999,
        ADDRESS_VERSION=30,
        RPC_PORT=7998,
        RPC_CHECK=defer.inlineCallbacks(lambda bitcoind: defer.returnValue(
            'digitalcoinaddress' in (yield bitcoind.rpc_help()) and
            not (yield bitcoind.rpc_getinfo())['testnet']
        )),
        SUBSIDY_FUNC=lambda height: 1*10000000 >> (height + 1)//1080000,
        POW_FUNC=lambda data: pack.IntType(256).unpack(__import__('ltc_scrypt').getPoWHash(data)),
        BLOCK_PERIOD=30, # s targetspacing
        SYMBOL='DGC',
        CONF_FILE_FUNC=lambda: os.path.join(os.path.join(os.environ['APPDATA'], 'franko') if platform.system() == 'Windows' else os.path.expanduser('~/Library/Application Support/Doubloons/') if platform.system() == 'Darwin' else os.path.expanduser('~/.digitalcoin'), 'digitalcoin.conf'),
        BLOCK_EXPLORER_URL_PREFIX='http://dgc.p2pool.nl/block/',
        ADDRESS_EXPLORER_URL_PREFIX='http://dgc.p2pool.nl/address/',
        SANE_TARGET_RANGE=(2**256//100000000 - 1, 2**256//1000 - 1),
        DUMB_SCRYPT_DIFF=2**16,
    )

Thank you very much, I'll configure it now =) Will let you know if I manage to get it running correctly.

So anyone has any pool that counts coins like it should or not?

http://www.digitalcoinpool.com seems to be right from my testing, and also could use more miners.

+1 joined....
Joined as well, I must have given up half my coins to those two scam pools.

+1 Joined too, only got half of of est daily from those 2 pools

Joined as well. Let's see if this one gives me what I should be getting Smiley
