21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sprouting Bitbean is 10X more profitable than mining on: January 29, 2018, 12:05:07 AM
Whats wrong with POS coins?

Its not a promotion I am asking a serious question. Sprouting beans is the most profitable method of satoshi generation I have found. Is there some drawback to POS that I don't know about?

The one drawback I can think of off the top of my head is that PoS is hyperinflationary unless block reward is reduced after every n blocks. You end up needing a Weimar Republic style wheelbarrow to haul enough cryptocurrency around to pay for a Pepsi... metaphorically speaking, of course.

And for you tossers that keep suggesting I sign up with Madoff (currently serving a rather lengthy prison term, as I recall) I am ASKING QUESTIONS TO LEARN MORE, NOT TO SHOOT DOWN YOUR PRECIOUS COIN. I am skeptical by nature and don't necessarily believe that every "fantastic opportunity" is, indeed, such. It probably has something to do with my mom dragging me to a timeshare sales presentation just so she could get a free camera.

Interesting use of 'tossers', then 'mom'. You mixed British and American well. /aside

/

Can you explain these Bitbeans? I trust a currency that has faucets, it's important when roadmapping a coin to develop the community from the ground up.

I have DLed the QT wallet and am going to use a faucet for the moment. How many coins are needed to stake?
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Crazydane's 32 kw solar array build feeding 16 kw worth of miners on: January 28, 2018, 11:44:17 PM
Btw, I noticed in the interview you had this very large Burstcoin array.. several sets of like 24 HDD .. you have how many HDD runnign now?  How many motherboards drive those arrays?  I was thinking about getting into burstcoin because it's green and well it makes sense.  I am surprised there aren't more proof of capacity coins.  Do you think proof of capacity will eventually really take off?  I am thinking about adding 5 x SATA HDD to my GPU mining rig, would this be a bad idea?  like 5 x 8 TB HDD.  Would it slow down the GPU mining?

I have 4 x 24 bay chassis used by a single server (housed in one of those 4 chassis).  I have a total of 90 drives ranging from 2TB to 8TB.  Total storage just shy of 300TB.  I have a Supermicro motherboard with a E5-2683 v3 (14 core CPU).  It is capable of scanning the entire 300TB worth of plots in 30 seconds.  Plotting the drives initially is very time consuming, but once done, other than a burst of i/o every 4 minutes or so, there is not much stress on the machine.  So I don't see why you could not also GPU mine on the same rig.  My 2683 is actually mining XMR at the same time as Burst.  With the new PoC consortium and the recently released white paper on PoC2 and PoC3, I think Burst has a bright future.

I have been looking into using old Gen 7 Xeons for mining and possibly also for HDD mining stuff.

This is really great to see Dane, I watched your videos on Voskcoin and showed my mum who is really into green technology and she was pretty impressed by it. She liked your 'wife approval factor' - something we don't have in our house, so much!

Are you also mining Storj? Do you mine Burst simply due to the profit or do you see the potential of the coin ?
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1050Ti and 1050 mining performance on: January 28, 2018, 11:26:04 PM
Gonna snap up a few of these shortly, although I have managed to find some reasonably priced 1060 3GBs.

These cards along with the Rx5/60s haven't really been affected by the price gouging. They're about as cheap as they were at Christmas on the sites I've checked.

I'm in the UK so it's slightly different, but still possible to snag deals.

I think 1050tis will hold their value with time...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/01/28/britains-first-bitcoin-heist-trader-forced-gunpoint-transfer/

Sooo...

This just happened in England and kinda proves the topic correct, I thought initially the topic had been bumped because of this but it seems not.

4 guys ran into the house with guns and forced a Bitcoin trader to send all his coins to external addresses. He seems to be an Altcoin trader, so perhaps they only took his BTC. Maybe they left his TRX and XVG Tongue

Seriously though, this is possible and easily done. Anyone selling on Localbitcoins is at risk of this.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chromebook for Storing Wallets Only? on: January 28, 2018, 11:17:18 PM
Does anyone here have a computer solely for their wallets such as btc, litecoin and every other altcoin?  Thus the only thing they do on it is send/receive coins?  And maybe do trading on that computer?

And if so, does anyone know if a chromebook can do this?  Obviously trading would be hard because the screen is very small.  But what about a chromebook for your wallets?  Imagine you have like 25 different altcoins.  Then you need to download a wallet for each.  And when you do this, you do not visit any online sites on the chromebook/computer etc.

Obviously a regular computer can do this.  But could you do this on a chromebook?  Because chromebook uses their own operating system.

You would be better off storing your wallets on multiple USB keys and perhaps even on a CD/DVD if you trust the medium. I don't think it's worth risking hardware failure on any single device where you are storing keys.

You need to spread your risk a bit, nothing wrong with using a Chromebook but it's essentially just hardware that can be burned/damaged by water/broken/stolen.

Use a paper wallet, use a USB wallet, etc.
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Did GPU prices just double in the last few weeks on: January 27, 2018, 10:44:12 PM
I believe nvidia quit producing them. Voltas are coming soon.

Samsung is now mass-manufacturing GDDR6 memory for new gen gpu-s. But when will volta come out no one knows.

This is pretty interesting, Samsung seems to have done very well out of GPU sales and it seems they are one of the first companies to acknowledge crypto-mining.

I wonder if VEGA cards are going to be the top dogs or whether Team Green will triumph this time around.

I bought a few cards at Christmas for around 200 GBP, and the prices are steadily climbing. 1060s and 570s are pretty badly affected.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard recommendation on: January 27, 2018, 10:39:36 PM
Hi,
I have two graphic cards
- msi gtx 1070
- saphire nitro+ rx580 8g special edition

I would like a mother board with two + pci x 16 to be able to connect both motherboards directly in the pc without risers.

Any recommendations for the motherboard please?

Looked at the msi z720 with two pcix16, but i red a lot of comment about issues with the msi card gtx 1070.

Thank you for your infos.

I don't see what the issue is.

Go for an AM3, they have cheap boards that come with Crossfire SLI support which means you can put two cards in the build with no issues.

Pair that with a Black Edition FX series chip and you have 200-300 hashes a second of spare bang for buck, plus another 2 or 3 PCIE slots for external riser expansion.

Any board will do.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Have you raised money on ICO? on: January 27, 2018, 02:58:57 AM
I am much interested on when you will dump the coins you have invested on ICO to get your money back. Guys do you have any ideas?

Usually you decide for yourself at what price you're ready to quit. It depends on a projects perspectives, the amount you invested and the market trend. I used to sell 75% of my investments when the price reaches x2-x3. And hold the other part for longer period. Also the price usually growth before new listings on exchanges. So you can use it for your profit.

Thanks for the reply. So that means not withdrawing all of the investment depends on you. Predicting the future capability of the ICO is very hard, so a 75% withdrawal is small I think.

I think 50% is a good return, i don't think it's worth being greedy. Hold half and sell half, if you can recoup your invest and still hold something then you're set.

I like the idea of ICOs, but you really need to connect with the concept and its possible use cases and not just the idea...Be as practical as possible!
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Psychological attachment to first alts on: January 27, 2018, 02:54:38 AM
I have an attachment to Doge Cheesy

I have 40k from faucets and intend to HODL until such time as they hit their peak value. 0.1 cents is good for me though!!!

I think I have a think for underdog alts, I missed the BTC boat and also Eth...Doge is my one weakness!
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coins under $1 on: January 26, 2018, 04:29:24 PM
Which alt coins are below $1 value that gonna turn in $10 next year.

Need your best suggestion

You should invest in Oyster Protocol PRL. It's nice and huge and it will explode next month.
What I mean they're big because they have a very good project that website owners would love this anonymous storage service from iota tangle.

Post some links?

Raiblocks has a lot of potential, as does Ella, Sia (if it doesn't get messed up by forking), and a few others that escape my mind.

Ethereum is going to be big, obviously. The sheer number of development on the network will drive the value up. The theory has been posited that Eth is either going to be blessed and lifted by the services that launch via ICO, or they will be damned by it and dragged down.

I also fear Ethereum is too closely linked to the founder, and his vision and oversight could make or break the coin. Is it really decentralized?

31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New to crypto. Should I buy Tron TRX? on: January 26, 2018, 04:23:04 PM
Hey guys,

I actually started investing in crypto (XLM,XRP,XMR,BTC,ETH,LTC,EOS,VEN) quite lately.

Shall I buy TRX now that is going down? What do you think about the game?

Cheers!

You can buy mine if you want, I'm not looking to do much with them. I own about 80 dollars worth which I purchased at a slightly heady price.

How big do you think it will get? I'm not so sure since the whitepaper rumours that the hype can sustain itself without some serious technical quantum leaps occuring on their Github.
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Newbies to crypto cut that negative shit out about Bitcoin. on: January 26, 2018, 04:13:05 PM
Many of those newbies are alt accounts of people with interest of creating FUD about bitcoin. As far as we know it can be alt accounts from people who have shortned bitcoin Grin The futures contract end today at 5pm, lets see how the market reacts, hopefully good!

That's an interesting theory to say the least. We'll see what happens.

I think Alts on Bitcointalk will have a marginal impact on BTC, I can't see it being a huge driver of influence. There are a lot of newcomers slamming Bitcoin because they parted with fiat to get into some ponzi like BitConnect. I would say Bitconnect had a huge impact on the market.

Altcoins are coming through steadily..
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ColossusCoinXT will be the surprise privacy coin in 2018 on: January 23, 2018, 11:12:20 PM
I'm reading the whitepaper now but a lot of this seems to be rehashed, impenetrable stuff. I'm not into speculation.

These coins need solid development and sidechaining to be successful, they cannot stand out on their own in a market of thousands without a unique selling point. There will be a micro bubble within 'privacy coins' - I wouldn't be surprised if they are the first to burst.

I wonder where the grassroots support for this is coming from, or if it's simply aimed at speculators.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your top 3 alt coins to invest in? on: January 23, 2018, 09:11:38 PM
I think Ethereum is either going to be blessed by the ICO'd services that are launching on the chain or they are going to be dragged down with accusations of scamming and maybe worse. I don't know.

I didn't like the look of Eth back in the day, Darkcoin and others seemed more viable. Even Feathercoin. I have no real knowledge about what separates Eth from other coins and chains, and why services aren't being developed at equal rates across blockchains.

There is surely room for several decent coins backed by viable services...
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to get more profit? on: January 23, 2018, 09:08:35 PM
By running your own Bitcoin faucet you will be paying out small amounts of Bitcoins to your users (automatically) but will be gaining much more revenue through ads you put on your site. The Internet is filled with endless forums and message boards, and this creates opportunities. These forums offer great opportunities to spread word about products and services, and some companies will even pay you to promote their products on these forums. Often, this involves little more than modifying your signature and putting an ad code into it some of these websites pay you in bitcoinBitcoin mining is also a way to create wealth through bitcoin.
also visit this site it's really helpful
https://99bitcoins.com/how-to-make-money-with-bitcoin/

People always greed.
Yes, I am one of them.
Recently, i lost some of my bitcon because i want more instead of holding bitcoin. so i buy altcoin but not top 10 altcoin.
Would you like to share your experience?
Beside, i know that airdrop is good way to gain profit.
What do you think DeepOnion airdrop? It seems that they got a very good community.

Correct.

Having run a faucet in the past, I was aware of the vast traffic that come to your sites - and they actually click. I gave away a large sum of BTC and profited in fiat and BTC. I was hacked when Faucetbox was big, they didn't have much protection bless them and they lost a lot of bigger faucet users.

Saying that, I don't know what the ad networks are like. I do know that CoinAd was like striking gold, their rates were ridiculous. MellowAds also.
36  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How to overcome depression? on: January 23, 2018, 08:23:09 PM
Alleviation pretty much.

Intelligent people are depressed because they typically acknowledge and process the more painful aspects of reality. Sad, or cool, depending on how you see it/feel, but I think it's true.

Well I'm clueless, won't work when I create a new file either.
I'll take your file and work everything back there, no clue what's going wrong in my file.
Thanks for helping out!!

Hmm strange indeed.
You can share yours with me, curious whats wrong.
Cheers!

Keep struggling with this, can you PM your emailaddress to me, I'll share a document where I can't get functions on the imported JSON values working.

I'm really struggling with getting a JSON pulled in properly, would you be able to PM me access to your spreadsheet? I can share mine with you if that's easier, I just can't seem to get the figures down.

I'm trying to pull specific currencies based on custom GPU configurations (for example 4x XXXX or 6 x XXXX), have I made some mistake in thinking this is possible with the API?
Hi.

Click calculate and look in the address bar - you'll see something like _https://whattomine.com/coins?utf8=%E2%9C%93&adapt_q_280x=0&...
Just modify to _https://whattomine.com/coins.json?utf8=%E2%9C%93&adapt_q_280x=0&...
Play with this.

Best first post ever, thank you very much for the reply.

I'm kinda new to JSON, but this worked.
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What to mine? on: December 27, 2017, 01:22:38 AM
Are you planning on holding coins or regularly selling them off to pay bills and/or take profit? If you are selling them off regularly just mine whatever pays the best (basically the top few on whattomine) or use an auto switching and trading miner and pool.

If you are holding them then it is a bit of speculation game. You don't have to mine the top ones. If you suspect a coin will rise in value and you get pretty good output on. For example, I was mining ZCL hoping it would stay flat for awhile (still decent profit) and then rise after I accumulated a bunch.. Didn't quite work out because a week in the price doubled.. but worse things can happen.

Any recommendation on an autoswitching miner that also trades?

I'm looking into an ATI spec and also an NVIDIA spec, just unsure of which way to go on it.
