With a new cable, not the one included, it seemed to work again for a while. There's two connected, to two different USB buses, but i'll look into the the powered usb advise too.
After a while however, i got this:

Then the now troublesome unit zombied. Got it up again briefly after some reset/un/re-plugs. Then it just zombied again.

no hub, directly on the pc. Used to work well for a long time on that port, tried different ports as well. Tried both on the usb 2 and 3 ports.

Seems to work fine, although i do believe it now averages a bit lower than with the old version.
My second U3, which used to be the slowest, now works fine, averaging at 63 as i write. However, the other one is now just fu*** up. After a lot of reset, reinstall etc, cgminer now can address it, but only recieves errors back and cannot make use of it.

And it goes on. With the last cgminer-run, i got different errors, unable to initalize, unable to set freq etc.

I am happy with 62
I read that going more than that starts to dramaticlly increase the wattage at the wall. currently it works out slightly less than 1watt per 1gh/s (about 0.95watt @ 800mV). i have a watt-o-meter and my PC and the 2 U3 are draining 162watts 24/7 from which 40watts is the PC then 60watts x 2 from the other PSU
I had a duff one form the same guy I bought these two. I was lucky to find them cheap on amazon because I know if something went bad returns would be a simple.. and my hunch was correct. The second one was running 45ghs and there was nothing I could do to increase it. Returned and the 3rd one runs like the 1st. No problem at all.
24hour mark now broken and niether the fixer upper nor the stock one ZOMBIED... Interesting.
Please upgrade the latest firmware if it still can start to work..RMA is accepted if it is still working on 45G at below codes: cgminer.exe --bmsc-options 115200:0.54 -o stratum.antpool.com:3336 -u antminer_1 -o p2p.antpool.com:25 -u antminer_2 --bmsc-voltage 0830 --bmsc-freq 0982 cannot seem to find any firmware updates on the supportpages? |

It must be the overclocking that crashes the firmware and you MUST hard reset the whole thing. I suppose if you want to get 70ghs out of these puppies then you need to be ready to fix them everyday or create something to cut USB power and +12v with some kind of MCU... I could do it but not worth it really.
No, its not overclocking. My two has zombied from day one, before i even tried anything other than default. And one of them has only given me 40-45 for the most part since i got it. Due to the shipping cost of them however, it's not worth it to return it from here, i'll just make sure to warn people of the low quality of these.. Too bad, other than that, i kind of like these units. |

Just tested for 24 hours approx with default settings (225mhz, 750v) and extra passiv cooling. One of the units still goes zombie at times and needs to be re-plugged.
One of the units only gives me around 38-45 Ghs now, the other around 50-55.

Do not believe you'll ever get these devices truly "stable", but it's been more stable with this setup than any more clocking. 4.9 : cgminer.exe -O username:pass -o stratum+tcp://pool:port --au3-freq 240 --au3-volt 785 But, you shouldnt really need the --au3 options to get good enough performance from the U3s. testing without any options right now, seems to average just slightly lower. But one of my units are constantly giving me 15-20 less GHs than the other  Not done a really good study of it, but it seems i get less zombie fallouts after i added some more mechanics for passive cooling of the units. My shift work effort logged seems to have stabilized on a higher level recently too, which would support that. |

Soooooo.... The power adapter brick that comes with it almost melted and caught my house of fire. I cut off the barrel plug, soldered it onto a molex, and plugged it back in... What crap is BITMAIN releasing these days where stock settings may cause a house fire?! thats a bit worrying... exact same adapters i got. Very interested if you get any response from them.. |

I am trying to run this from the command line in the cgminer 4.8 directory
cgminer.exe --bmsc-options 115200:0.54 –o stratum.antpool.com:3333
-u(myuser) -p(mypwd) --bmsc-voltage 0800 --bmsc-freq 0982 --startdiff 6
And I keep getting unrecognized error on all of the options.
Can anyone fill me in what am I doing wrong?
And once it goes ZOMBIE, is there another way to reset it without reseating the usb cable?
As far as i understand it, the guides showing you those settings are quite outdated. After 4.8 you don't really need to give any switches to get u3 to work pretty well i believe. And if you run cgminer.exe --help you'll see the available options. For mye 4.9, its the --au3-freq and --au3-volt thats relevant. And for those, the parameters are straightforward decimal numbers. 785 to specifiy 785 mV and 240 to specify frequency for instance. Just a few posts back i give an example of what i have working with UE3 and cgminer 4.9 You could try something like cgwatcher to automate fixing and monitor your mining, with regards to your (too normal with ue) zombie problem. But for me that didnt work to well, cgwatcher freezes my whole machine up... |

Visvas, your code is different from every other guide ive found, sadly it still does not work for me. Thanks though.
What version of cgminer and OS are you on? Also, have you used zadig to replace the usb drivers for U3? When you say it's not working, what kind of error do you get? the latest 4.9 version downloaded from the compiled binaries folder. If you have multiple cgminer versions, like me, make sure you're in the right directory as well:)

To the ongoing discussion on cgminer: Currently using cgminer 4.9 with the options --au3-freq 245 --au-volt 785, working just fine on windows.
Had two U3s for a few weeks now, tested both on my windows and linux setup with cgminer 4.9. They are easy enough to use after cgminer got support for them and extremely silent, compared to for instance my old butterfly jalapeno. But, they are not so very stable or well performing, but it varies a lot. For the most port, one of them has given me an average around 57-58 gh/s, the other one around 45-46, consistent across machines. And one usually zombies every day or two. Now suddenly, they have both been averaging around 57-58 for the last 30 minutes after i unplugged for a little while and restarted cgminer.
Using the power supplies that came with the units, bought from cryptocrane on amazon.com. Bit hard to understand whats going on with these units and their performance...
For some reason they average higher on my windows box than ubuntu 14.04, a little difference in hardware though. Faster wireless on the windows machine as well.
