I'm getting on board Ether farming!

Edit: Hang on, the clause says "if ether is not possible anymore, will be switched to X11"

I wondered about this and asked support: Ethereum might switch to PoS and one point in time. As no one knows if and when this happens, a fallback mechanism was added, so that you continue mining something useful.

In fact, the switch would be good in term of ROI, as 1 MH/s of Ether Mining is worth only 0.25 MH/s X11 (X11 is a more complicated algorithm). However, GM converts on a 1:1 ratio, which is very positive.

TL;DR: it is a good feature

Hey miners,

2015 is almost over but we have yet some things to reveal...

We are proud to finally announce Ethereum Cloud Mining!

Due to our large scale GPU mining activities we are excited to offer significant parts of our farms for Ethereum mining in the cloud. Users can benefit from our economy of scale and our geothermal powered and optimized GPU mining rigs in Iceland. We are bullish on Ethereum and look forward to giving our customers the chance to profit from this exciting innovation and also to support the network.

“More miners on the network definitely helps to increase the network security. It’s great to see operations & organizations such as Genesis Mining take an interest in supporting Ethereum.” - Vitalik Buterin in an interview with Bitcoin Magazine.

Check our Blog Post for more information!

Thanks for the support!

Marco Streng

Great job guys! Ethereum is the IMHO the second-most important crypto-currency. And if Bitcoin devs do not get the block size sorted out Ethereum evertually will become the most important one.

Nowadays, its better to invest in some peer based cloudmining services like Nicehash, Mining Rig Rentals etc. You pay for GH/s according to your will (especially when Bitcoin price "nearly" skyrockets or mine some profitable altcoins and exchange them for BTC). One more advantage is that, you can control your pool since you can configure your preferred pool in no time!. BTW, I wish GM gets successful with their X11 contracts as it's the most profitable contract right now in my opinion.

I do not agree. Last time I checked it was not possible to rent a rig for a year. And when the price for a coin goes up, so does the short-term price for renting. So ROI wise this is a bad deal.

With GM I have one price for a long period of time, independent of the price of the underlying coins. My X11 investment is going very well, so far - and I do not know any other service that even comes close to the offer of GM.

I have been observing outputs from GM against the outputs that I have from a physical miner (on a PPS model). I am beginning to question the rate of returns of GM.

I am tracking their payouts for a long time, and found them to be reasonable (with slight variations, which are to be expected).

It helps if you back up your vague accusations with data: date, coin/algorithm, hashrate, maintenance fee.

many tanks for your reply...

but as much I searching and learning online and with your help with answer  I can say now that with mining profit is poor and very risky... I will not bother if is slow earnings .. but after all calculation mining become to much risky... will not even bother if is risky and if we can make good ROI ... but you see my point?   hight risk/low earnings ... what you thing ??
sorry for my english ..I am not the best Wink

It is well known that mining is risky. And so is Bitcoin. Thus, the same rule applies:

"do not invest more than you can afford to lose"

Everyone has his own expectations about the future and will act accordingly. My sha contract for example was profitable. I have invested recently some money in X11 because prices and hashrate are relatively stable and if this continues I will make a profit, as well.

Also with GM you have the option to mine different coins. By the way it would be great if you guys could add Ethereum, as well!

26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Genesis-mining.com || World's leading hashpower provider! on: November 20, 2015, 11:57:03 AM

To be honest, I like GM and indeed have smaller amounts invested, but I would not invest $ 5,000.
I would rather recommend Hashnest. Since you can resell your shares.
Or get the hardware if it is no longer worthwhile.

If price collapses or difficulty increases a lot your shares will be worthless anyway. It's an illusion to believe that you can mine, and then if mining goes bad you "just sell your shares". Also getting the hardware is useless for almost everyone, because of electricity cost, the extra heat, noise and not to forget "shipping costs".

If you urgently need the money it could be a benefit to sell. But in the first place you should not invest money that you might need anyway.

I like GM because of the multi-algo / multi-coin approach, and because they do a lot to boost the image of cryptos in the public.

No body reached ROI with anything they offer. How could you love it ?

Actually I made ROI with them, the 10GH/s contract I purchased in September last year and featured in my videos made ROI in May 2015.

So if anyone else purchased SHA 256 at the same time last year then they would have done also. Infact those who purchased larger amounts would have paid less per GH/s than I would have done so could have made ROI even before May. Of course if they purchased more contracts later on, in October, November or December then of course things get more of a problem.

So it was possible to get ROI and my contract was proof of that.

Of course you will not believe me but that really is up to you.

Thanks for the information!

I have tracked the payouts of my X11 contracts so far.

X11 payout = payout in BTC (auto) times the Bitstamp rate at the end of the date.
ROI Ferix / Graviton = these is the amount I would have paid for each contract per day, so as long as I am above these lines I will make a profit.

Right now:

+16.8% for Ferix
+29.1% for Graviton!

Let's face it : GM is shady. Probably not the way PB mining was because I believe they are mining. But I'm almost sure their reserve is fractionnal. If they don't give their customers the informations we ask for (total hash, pools used, blocks mined), it's definitively because they hide something. I can also show you some miners with a webcam. It doesn't prove anything about the total hashing power I have and I'm running.
This is the case for almost every cloud mining player. Hashnest, Bit-X, CloudMining.website, HashFlare, eobot... no one is different. None will give you total hash power sold and their mining address. Some showing mining firm, some showing vouch from miner manufacturer and some showing payment proof. All of them are practicing fractional reserve mining. Let's face it.

Unfortunately, the more powerful & influential will try to shut your mouth in various way. By negative trust, deleting post etc.

Proofing the hashrate and the amount sold is difficult. There might be some fractional reserve mining here and there, however, I do not think that the more trustworthy ones are really doing it.

I have not followed all posts here, but GM has at least given me enough proof that they are real, endorsements from mining manufacturers (including spondolies IIRC) and videos (btw the GPU farm video is nice). On the other hand some people in the forum behave like idiots.

https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMining/comments/3s5wmh/bitmain_has_misleading_s7_specs_be_careful/

It seems Bitmain is cheating a bit, as well.

On the other hand, which company is not?

A information. It is quite possible to find out from where come the coins. Who traced the withdrawals gets easily out which pools GM used. The Hotwallet address is publicly known. It is possible to draw conclusions about how much Hashrate actually exists. Whether the hardware is at GM in the data center or is rented, I can not say.

If it is the only hot wallet. Someone I know is also mining with GM and he gets his payments from a different hot wallet.

Message to Genesis mining :

To be fair with your customers you have to re-activate the contracts you cancelled last month.

BTC price has increased of 42% at the time of speaking. You can't say the fees are covering the profit anymore.

Try to show us you care about your customers and are not mining only for yourself.

That would be nice

Of course it would be "nice" from a client's perspective. On the other hand expecting them to leave the space unused for such an amount of time is not efficient either. As far as I remember they already mentioned somewhere that they are removing old miners and replacing them by new ones.

While I understand the point, you should expect that mining companies work very efficiently. Just leaving outdated stuff installed (in case it could come back) causes a lot of opportunity cost. So I would not have a lot of hope in this case.

Hehe, I wanted to set the payouts to X11 coins instead of auto BTC, but the system automatically resets the setting to auto BTC.

Today I received 17000 satoshis for the 1MHs X11 mining power. I also bought this as a test so thank God I haven't invested more in the accelerated ROI scheme they advertised to tempt people to buy X11 power. I'm glad I can help the company reach an accelerated ROI. Smiley

See my points above. Payouts are in line with what you can expect. It is hardly GM's fault if X11 is doing a bit weaker at the moment. Let's see how this plays out in the long run.
36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Genesis-mining.com || World's leading hashpower provider! on: October 26, 2015, 03:08:45 PM

Too bad, I wanted to upgrade over the weekend. ROI wise it is an interesting product and Dash is a good X11 coin. Not too surprised to see that it is sold out Sad

Any chance it will be back anytime soon?

Don't regret it, I just bought 1MHs X11 for 0.086BTC. My first whole day payout was 25000 satoshis, then 23000, and now 20000 satoshis. I suppose the reason behind the decreasing payouts is the rising Bitcoin value.

But if I count with an average 23000 satoshis per day I need 374 days to get my investment back and the contracts are for one year. So this way I don't expect any profit but a loss.

What do you think?

My thoughts:

1) The X11 payouts of GM are in line with what you can expect according to other sites, e.g., nicehash. So GM payouts are in line with the market.

2) GM paid BTC 0.007066 in total for the first 26 days. So if the average stays the same, the total payout is about BTC 0.099, or about USD 28.3 by today's prices. That means a profit of 15%; and with a larger contract ($19 per MH/s) about 27% profit.

3) Calculation by today's Bitcoin prices: one MH/s diamond (the most efficient) costs $19, or BTC 0.0667.

Based on 26 days payouts: total income = BTC 0.0992   (expected profit of 49%)
Based on the 23,000 Satoshi: total income = BTC 0.084  (expected profit of 26%)

This means that the contracts would be very profitable. Of course this means that the attractiveness of X11 coins has to stay the same, but this is something everyone buying a X11 contract should know anyway.

I believe in the X11 coins (in particular the value of Dash), so I regret to not have upgraded before they stopped selling.

37  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Should websites refuse to send coins to an already used address? on: October 23, 2015, 09:34:52 AM
I think most of us know that address reuse is a bad idea and it's better to use a unique one for every transactions to avoid security and privacy issues. If a website owner accepts bitcoin deposits and a user wants to withdraw coins to an address which was already used in the past, should there be a warning or even an error message or would that be too annoying for the user?

I'm curious about your opinions!

Well I don't it's a bad practice. Bitcoin is anonymous and so does the bitcoin address we use( for some). I think reusing the same address all over again makes it more secure for both party, let's say as a proof of ownership. Just like how it works in a staked address here in the forum, same thing as in a website, it also proves ownership or in a transaction to someone else. It proves that you are still the same person that uses the same address. Someone can claim to be that person yet can't use the old address so ye, I think the address is like a signature that proves who really is doing the transaction.

Bitcoin is not anonymous. The transaction history reveals a lot about addresses and connections between addresses.

Re-using addresses is bad from a security and anonymity point of view:
1) it reveals more about the owner of the address
2) when doing a transaction the public key of the address is revealed - this means that the additional protection layer by the hashing algorithm is gone

But forcing anything up on the user, is not the right way to do things. Wire transfers are less anonymous than cash, but still there are a lot of use cases why people prefer wires.

Hi Genesis Mining community.

Unfortunately we have now sold out of X11 hashpower.  It was very popular and it went quite fast.

Please look out for announcements in the future, for when we will have some more X11 hashpower.

Regards

GM's payout seems to be falling. I guess it is more worth while to buy your own miners.

Wrong conclusion. With rising difficulty payouts for home miners are dropping, as well.

Mining at home only makes sense if (i) you have free (or very cheap electricity) available and (ii) if you do not take into account the time you spend for setting up and maintaining the machine.

Up to 10/8/2015...a bit of a bump in BTC but not payout.

This is what i don't understand. how can btc price go up but not the pay out?

I think the price lacks one day; so the pricing on the previous day is relevant because they will probably do the BTC/USD conversion during that day. It could also be because the price is changing during the day, or pool luck could also play a role.
