21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Galax 1070 Katana GPU ( it has arrived) on: May 12, 2017, 08:21:20 PM

When I see those rigs pictures, it really makes me want to be back to mining. I will look at it, maybe you changed my life, because I am thinking more and more about buying a few rigs after seeing this thread Smiley !

Me too! I already sort of started again. I broke away when BTC difficulties got way too high and never came back. But I think that is changing
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Galax 1070 Katana GPU ( it has arrived) on: May 12, 2017, 08:00:38 PM

Installing 7x cards directly in PCI-E on an X99 motherboard is not an issue at all even if the card has one power plug.

I have 7x 1070 Strix directly installed on PCI-E slots on an X99 motherboard, all good.

Great review, keep us updated !

How is that possible?  Aren't those cards double-wides?

Watercooled/Chopped-off DVI ports

Awesome! Picture, please!

Out of respect to philipma1957 and his efforts to share great information with us, i would rather avoid deviating from the main subject of this thread. [Review of Galax 1070 Katana GPU]
I'll just share info which is needed for this thread.
7x 1070's can in fact be plugged directly into a X99 (one's with 7 PCI-E slots) and it will work.      https://i.imgur.com/0Wzr621.jpg

In the Katan case, it even can be done without modifying the card. Now, the compatibility question has been answered, the new question is heat.
Awesome. Is that a serial or parallel terminal?
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v12.4 (Windows/Linux) on: May 06, 2017, 10:59:42 PM
Its been a long time since Ive done any mining and this zcash miner is extra well put together. I really only have one question:

When adding these parameters do you jsut drop them into the config file or create a new batch file and add them?

GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR 1
GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE 100
GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT 100

I think the last time I did this was prob in BFG miner and I am pretty sure I jsut did it while the miner was running inside the program itself. I really cant remember. Thanks
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to differentiate between samsung and hynix memory for rx 480 rx 470 on: May 06, 2017, 10:56:38 PM
Before opening the boxes?

buy from amazon they will let you return an open box

My place to buy allow it. I just don't want the hassle. I only want GPU with samsung memory.

Most reviews of specific gpu's will show the gpu-z screen grab and that will show you the memory. For example, the XFX RX480 Black Edition with reference cooler has Samsung vram. I know because I own 2. Might not be the best 480 for mining since Im getting a little below average h/s on zcash but I dont know how it will perform with other miners/coins
25  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The safest wallet? on: November 14, 2016, 10:46:35 PM
For me i used blockchain.info to store my coin

What if they get hacked? I heard they are limiting TOR access now, is that true?

They do store encrypted backups on their server. However, as with all encryption methods, it is possible for hackers to compromise the files with weaker passwords. The time taken would depend on the encryption method.

Blockchain.info does not limit tor connections unless specified by the user. They even have their own onion link.

You can always make copies of it and store it at different geographical locations.

That being said, if used properly, Electrum would be more userfriendly since the transaction can be signed on the offline computer with a GUI, broadcast using an online computer.

Im wondering if Blockchain.info is still the best online alternative. I signed into my wallet after not using it for a long time and Im not crazy about the changes they made. It seems to be made intentionally arduous to do simple things. Even starting the backup recovery process is a sham. The system generates a message to say my main BTC address is a "non Blockchain" address and I need to transfer it to one of their new addresses. First of all, its not a "non Blockchain.info" address. And secondly, they want to charge about $2 USD to move BTC from one address to another inside their own network. Thats beyond ridiculous.

So I am looking for another alternative. I lost coins when Cryptsy collapsed (not much, maybe $70 USD total across all Alt Coins). My question is has anyone migrated away from Blockchain.info and if so, what did you start ti use in its place. If anyone can answer that I think the thread can continue to be helpful. Paper wallets are always a great option too and Im glad it was one of the first responses. My paper wallets are really a "last resort" stashed coins. But thats just my personal preference.

26  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BTCJam Theft...FROM STAFF!!! on: October 15, 2015, 10:12:52 PM
My next question to the BTCJam Staff is this:

Do users actually have a wallet associated with their profile?

Im assuming the answer is "No". That there is only one wallet for all of BTCjam and they wrote a simple script that associates an address with a user. Realistically, a user should have a regular wallet so that no matter how many addresses or generated or if the staff changes your address, then your deposits will still appear...because a deposit can be sent to any address created by a user and still have it reflected in their balance. Just like a real wallet.
27  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BTCJam Theft...FROM STAFF!!! on: October 15, 2015, 10:01:57 PM
Stay tuned...BTCJam staff has been fighting me for a month. They stole my deposit, changed my deposit address (an address that I had been depositing too for over a year), and are publicly denying that they did anything wrong. They wont return, or refund it, or even begin to admit any wrong-doing. Its hysterical.

I am going to provide all of the screenshots, conversations, etc shortly. I am posting this under Scam Accusations because there really isnt a category for "Lying, incompetent BTC businesses that previously were not problematic" I am leaving this up to the mods to move this into the correct category if it isnt correct. Then I will be able to kow where to post the follow up.

Once all you guys see this, youre going to most likely pull your BTC Jam account.

IRONY: As a journalist, I was supposed to be doing a puff piece on the BTC crowd-funded loan market and was going to talk about my experience over the years with BTCjam. Since I wanted to accurately document every step to my editor, I decided to make another small deposit, invest in loans, et al and then be able to explain it to him with supporting screen grabs. Instead, they lost the deposit and have been caught in a cover up, straight out lies, and more

So Im going to wait on the mods to make sure this doesnt need to be moved into another category. If it doesnt move after a day, then Im going to put the details here in the "Scam" category; a follow up to this post

End Note: Emails from bitcointalk and BTCjam members are really what prompted me to put the details out there. Sorry for the delay. Also, I need to clear this with my editor. As long as there is no conflict - because they may decide to do the story on the ripoff - then I will publish all details here. If there is a conflict I will link to the story here.

Hey there,

You told us that you had connections on your account which you did not approve so under security measures we parked the account thinking it was compromised. You then deposited to the account you told us this happened at while we had already changed deposit addresses. We'll happily return your funds, please send us a TXID for this and we'll get this resolved. PM this if possible, thanks!

No, no. The deposit happened first. Brett said in an email that he parked the account for security measures. I asked him if that would affect the incoming transaction. He never replied.

Here is the transaction ID (Ive sent it via email and a few times to BTCJam Support on Twitter to no avail)

Why would you need to clear being able to share your personal story anywhere with your editor?

I am going to provide all of the screenshots, conversations, etc shortly
I am not really sure why you would not simply post all the evidence at the time you create this thread.

1) Because when I am doing a story I submit everything to an editor for review. They technically have the rights until they make a final decision. If it were smaller publications I can easily get away with posting almost everything...it serves as promotional material. But ever since I started working with larger publications they use a very old school format. Query editor, write the story, submit all documents. If they kill it you can take whatever material with manuscript and take to another editor/publication or you can put it out yourself. But until I get an answer on which way we are going, releasing stuff Ive already sent them (before getting approval to do so) can jeopardize the agreement Ive already made with the editor and they may decide to kill the story (and not pay me). Im trying to avoid that because I hate writing cheap articles for $100

2) There is way too many screenshots, emails, etc to put in order, crop, etc. I started doing when I had about an hour free and barely got through it

We moved onto a new server and patched up some security holes. The downside is that we had to dump the previous database as it was a mess, really.

Having said that, don't freak out when the site asks you to register again Smiley

Disregard my PM. I sent it asking this question before seeing this thread. However, its done it to two accounts so far. I really hope security holes are thoroughly patched

What country are you in? Well, for privacy's sake, a general region is ok
32  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Lealana 10 LTC Error Coins (Graded MS 65) Funded By Smoothie on: June 01, 2015, 06:04:14 PM
How much are you asking for them? The graded and the ungraded

Basically you'll get the market price of LTC and silver at the time of sale. They are .5 ounce of silver per coin and since they are not a currency minted by a country they usually do not carry the same premium that those coins carry. Its similar to private assayer silver bars, they are usually a little over spot. (the ungraded). The graded ones may fetch just a little more. So, right now, silver is $16.70 per oz. So the lowest it could be is $8.35. Thats just for the silver. LTC is what? $1.76? So tack $17.60 onto the the $8.35 and you have a ballpark figure of $25.95, thats the lowest possible market value (in other words dont let anyone offer you lower than that). Usually with a product in this category you can squeeze 10-15% on top of that since its a unique physical product. So, $30 USD.

I can guarantee you that I'm a real customer.

Thank you guys! I just placed my first order. Its also nice to see the updates (payment received, shipping, etc) from them too.

I used to have a friend overseas that would mail me cigs but he hasnt lived outside of the US for a long time. So I have been paying a lot of money to smoke.

So much love, thank you guys! Smiley

Hey OP, I am sending you a quick PM question. Nothing pressing, just something that Im curious about.
35  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Dutyfree.io - Buy cheap cigarettes with Bitcoin on: May 18, 2015, 06:25:05 PM
Only, any plans to launch a new promo code for the summer holidays? (just curious)

Not currently, no. We'll announce it here and on our Twitter when we launch a new one, so keep tuned Smiley

Hoping you still have Marlboro reds in stock.

Im diving in and placing an order. Order placed. Fingers crossed. Cigs are too expensive here. And Im hoping all of the other feedback from people on here were real customers.
36  Economy / Investor-based games / ALERT: Bitcoin-Income.com - Be Aware of Potential Fraud on: May 10, 2015, 10:51:38 PM
Hello everyone,

In the past, I have alerted the community to possible scams/pyramids like OurBeks.com; a company that promised daily interest rates that were just not possible.

Well, here we go again. New site. New Name. Same promises. And, verbatim, the exact same FAQ that was cut and pasted from the old OurBeks.com (before they took everyone's money and closed shop)

The site is bitcoin-income.com

Now, just like OurBeks did, they will pay out for a little while, even be very active and attentive with customer service. Then once they build up trust, people make larger deposits, and then they cash out leaving you with nothing!

So, as a test I made a public address and a small deposit. They will pay out. Its too new not to pay out.

https://blockchain.info/tx/b43e8339dafe79d8ec2fc02ca315d482e279134252223cb6bf141acce85c56d5

They need the trust from the community to succeed in ripping everyone off. And if they are legit then they need to earn our trust. First of all, how about not having a private registration on their site? No other investment firm or brokerage house, or single broker hides their identity. I have a few ideas as to how they can do that but I can guarantee that upon contacting them they will refuse every idea (more on that at a later time)

Heres the first small deposit. remember, they are guaranteeing to pay me a daily interest of 3%. But of course, they will hold it for 10 days. (This is also just like OurBeks. The withdrawal fee was equal to about 7-8 days worth of your interest. So you really needed to leave the deposit for 9-10 days before you "earned" anything)

Anyone familiar with the old OurBeks site (and I believe I screencapped and did a FreezePage on that site; I'll have to look on my other computers) will notice that they didnt even try to correct their poor English from the old site.

Before more people get ripped off I think we need to call them out. Alert everyone that they are bogus. If they arent bogus then they can contact me directly and I will help facilitate a brief transparent and legally binding framework so that they can operate smoothly with our trust. They watch these forums and they also set Google alerts. So they will see this.

-D

PS - I already know that its the old OurBeks. With the right tools this stuff isnt hard to figure out. I dont get all my steady work as freelance journalist and investigator out of thin air
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best Coin to Mine with a GPU on: May 04, 2015, 12:16:26 AM
GPU mining is profitable with private kernels, you have to pay select forum members a couple BTC for them though and it's unprofitable to mine with public kernels because of it. That's it.

GPU mining will never be profitable again unless someone develops a product that will actually be developed over time and not private kernels that are sold in the background you never know about.

Well, the profitability is so low that even with private kernal that gives 2x the hashrate (assuming power stay the same) is still not making any profit. And private kernels usually consume more power so its still not worth mining.

That's what you think...  Wink

Just the right person to ask...so, since I stopped mining a long time ago and I am now trying to get back into it, let me ask you (because you know this better than anyone):

1) What coins would you be mining? (Ive seen threads where you help people through multipool setup but Im curious about specific coins)

2) And since Im getting back in should I grab 280x's? I have two 290x Lightnings in my gaming rig right now but Im not going to torture those by mining on them

Im really curious because Im ready to buy my cards this week. I just cant seem to figure out which way to go here.
