21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchanges Too Invasive. Options? on: April 14, 2015, 06:10:36 AM

Yes I agree with you, bitcoin itself isn't the problem ... The real problems are (obviously) the governments and their laws (always restrictive). For the question about a full decentralized exchange, I think in the next few years we will see a couple of new exchange only with crypto currency (because the FIAT part is the problem).

This kind of thinking will kill bitcoin. Just think about it. It's like saying the disease isn't the problem, the person whose immune system couldn't defend against it is. Well, either way, that person is gonna die if he doesn't get help.

Stop laying the blame on governments. What we need is a solution, not whining about how much governments suck.

+1

Solutions needed. Preferably sooner than years from now.

IN THEORY.....I wish someone would invent personal ATMs but then again that probably wouldn't solve the problem.
24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why fight over block size when you have these upcoming technologies! on: April 14, 2015, 05:19:26 AM
Wasn't google supposed to be working on something along that line? Actually I probably shouldn't even try to post this because I don't know if what I'm thinking is even related to what you guys are referring to so if not, don't throw stuff. I remember reading something but now it's fragmented and I'll probably butcher it before anyone else figures out what the hell I'm even referring to...but something about google putting in fiber optics or ?? lol dammit and I can't google it because I can't get to the 'thing' it was! But I thought it was basically google and the internet airwaves sailing over 4g to Xg...and it may or may not have been connected to the solar wifi drones but I'll stop with the fiber terrabyte thing because that's probably gonna land me in the target corner!

But if anyone can figure out what it is I'm trying to get across (and if so my gratitude Cheesy ) would that be useful for bigger block sizes?

ETA 1 https://fiber.google.com/about/ - This may be what I was thinking. I'm still looking though. I also remember it having something to do with fiber optics vs cable, bandwidth and some podunk town in the midwest getting it first.

I'll facepalm for us all, don't worry.  Undecided
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is this the end of bitcoin? on: April 14, 2015, 05:09:16 AM
OP , by that same logic you could say many US companies went bankrupt , is this the end of the dollar?

LOL you really want to use that for an example?   Grin
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchanges Too Invasive. Options? on: April 14, 2015, 05:05:49 AM
The bitsquare sounds promising but I need something way sooner. Smiley

I liked circle in theory but the whole forced selfie and driver's license just totally turned me off. Who the hell do they think they are? Paypal didn't even pull that shit. I have a feeling that being a requirement for a circle acct will go a long way in circle taking a huge hit in users.
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Beware of CoinBase on: April 14, 2015, 05:00:28 AM
So this is the price users have to pay for using their "regulated" exchange/wallet? Welcome to the "paypal" of bitcoin Smiley

It's the power of concentration it is a tad concerning
However as long as their is sufficient choice and competition developed to complete against Bitpay their is a good chance of avoiding the monopoly trap.

I prefer the "they can't regulate bitcoin" option that lured me to it to begin with. So where are options for 100% privacy?
28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Beware of CoinBase on: April 14, 2015, 04:55:42 AM
I use circle or local bit coins. Coinbase is the paypal of bitcoin. I use bitpay for business transactions.

I want to be done with coinbase and circle but not sure what the options would be. Granted, this is the first real issue I've had and I'm not a trader so I'm not dealing in high volume transactions...my issue is when I'm ready to move my money, I have to wait on them to get around to it.

My question is if there's an option with bitpay, say I set up an option on my own website, my merchant account, and just 'buy' some widget thing for whatever the amount is I want to buy bitcoin, do it through bitpay and then move it to a wallet from bitpay. Would that work or would they pitch a hissy fit? Or would it even be worthwhile to do?

I need options Tongue
29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Exchanges Too Invasive. Options? on: April 14, 2015, 04:45:18 AM
I had a "situation" with coinbase that, up to this incident, I didn't have any issues with and technically it wasn't coinbase's fault in the beginning. I moved, got a new phone number and attempted to log in coinbase to update it...annnnd it was intercepted by that stupid fucking authy crap basically intercepting it so I had to ask their permission to update my phone number and after fucking around for a week, the stupid twats actually said no. WTF. It's not their decision whether I update my damn phone. Man I was pissed. Still am. I won't be using that shit again.

I went to coinbase and they suggested just making/verifying a new acct and they'd transfer it over...which I did in about 8 minutes but when I let them know it was done and needed them to transfer it over, they took over a week to get to it...so tonight I basically had to spam the chat and the "ticket" thing with demands for them to get the shit done and send it over and finally they did.

I was a fan of coinbase but this is bullshit they take their own sweet time and do it whenever they feel like it. There was no legitimate reason for them to drag ass longer than a week to move the btc from the old acct to the new one and after a dozen emails to support - they didn't even answer the first one. After this, it really drove it home about it's "not your bitcoin" when it's on coinbase or some other exchange...but I still needed a way to buy/sell so I haven't deleted the coinbase account yet.

What I did do was join circle.com and get alllllll the way signed up until it came time to verify my identity. Unlike coinbase, circle wanted me to scan a drivers license in, which in and of itself I didn't mind but it was a pain in the ass to have do that...and then they wanted a selfie on top of it. Are you fucking kidding me?

So we have coinbase who arbitrarily drags ass and holds your money hostage til they fucking feel like getting off their asses and processing it, not to mention the whole delay between purchasing and selling off/back to bank.

We have authy who is not a 2 factor authorization, it's apparently decided IT decides whether you can authorize your shit.

And now circle who is by far the most invasive on the verification.

What's next, fingerprints, retina scans and background checks? Fuck that shit. Ah god damn I'm still fuming apparently...  Grin

What the hell has happened with these exchanges? They've become more anal retentive than a bank. I literally opened a bank account by filling out a form and giving them one dollar and was done in 20 minutes.

Any options besides these that aren't all about getting up in your business and just have minimal invasive verification?

30  Economy / Speculation / Re: The market is really going sideways...? on: April 13, 2015, 03:26:55 AM
Ah, I see... We're at that time again where we're rotating our charts Cheesy I don't really believe in sideways movement. A breakout/-down seems much more likely, I believe. Price is still resilient. At least we went down fighting, I guess...

Sometimes looking at something in reverse will give you the right perspective.

And the support is still looking good so far.

I'd be all for more sideways movement. I think breaking out of a giant falling wedge is a good thing, but that doesn't happen that often, actually. But hey, let the price prove me wrong on this one Smiley

Hehe...  Still holding.  Cross your fingers.  Smiley
Same here. If you held when it hit the bottom in January it's easy to hold now. If this move doesn't go lower than $200 and jumps up again it will just confirm the bottom and go up again to hit $250 (which is what the traders are waiting for).

Do I understand this right - the traders are waiting for it to hit 250 so they can do that they do. Holders are waiting for it to go under 200 to buy more and sideways = this is what's known as a Mexican standoff.   Grin

This was on here awhile ago - he's definitely a fan of bitcoin. Granted, doesn't mean he won't create a HiFi version of the L$ but even if he does, it'll be an evolution of the micropayment and will almost certainly be compatible on some level with exchanging bitcoin. He's already done it and knows the ropes.

32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is "Variety Jones"? on: April 06, 2015, 08:30:02 AM
With these recent events with the corrupt feds and the reasonable doubt of some other mastermind, is there any hope for Ross to get the conviction overturned or commuted or a shorter sentence? I'm torn on the wrongful conviction aspect. I don't think he ever should've been arrested or convicted but to be fair, I don't know all the whole story and there's the deal with hired assassinations...

...and truth be told, I was always a fan of the dead pool. It's a genius idea, really - illegal or not - and if it was continued and implemented it could go a long way in striking real fear in these corrupt politicians and "enforcers" and media propagandists. I'd love to see an Anonymous warning to the whole lot of them to straighten up, undo their corruption, come clean, step down - whatever - or find themselves on the list...and have a couple of the worst ones taken out. I bet they'd get their shit together in a hurry.  Grin

I was a fan of the Tar & Feather Society. I wish like hell somebody would put that together, a less permanent version of the dead pool and instead of having them assassinated, they're given fair warning and a reasonable period of time to comply and the consequence for failure or refusal or ignoring the warning is they're nabbed in the dead of night, taken somewhere and tarred/feathered, then tied to a pole and left in a public area with a big sign admitting their corruption. Maybe shaming and humiliation and fear will help. Imagine all the police department heads being warned to rid the department of all corruption and all corrupt officers or face the consequences.

Anyway, I know it'll never happen because people are too candy ass but man...I'd donate some bitcoin to see it go down!  Grin

Try that and check the specs. You can run it offline and it defaults as a closed grid option so it's a blank slate that will run on anything, really.

Sorry. VW fangirl. Tongue

I basically only run GNU/Linux these days.  I was surprised to see "for windows" after PHP, MySQL.  Smiley  What does VW have to do with it?  There must be some advert that I didn't see or something.

VW = virtual world fangirl Smiley

I used to play Second Life in the past...even spent a lot of money to buy myself a land area of my own...paid a builder to build me a couple of buildings...wanted to do some virtual estate business...but the problem was...that I had to leave the country for a while which mean't I didn't have time to focus..and I kind of forgot about it...when I got back my account was suspended..and they asked me to pay extra money just to retrieve and reopen my account. Which kind of turned me away from Second Life.

I've owned a couple of sims/islands in SL until I finally opted out in 2010 and looked into OpenSim but I know what you mean about spending a ton of money on it. Even virtual world hosting (SL) is being disrupted. SL charged 1600 per set up and 295 a month and made millions. OS came along and offered it for free so VW host now have been forced to drop their prices because it's possible for anyone to run a grid on their home computer and port into the hypergrid. It's gone from 300 a month for 1 region to options like 5 regions for 19 bucks a month! Now with OAR and IAR (inventory/object archive) downloads. Most of the content has become open source, full perm freebies.

Gotta love disruption of monopolies, eh?  Grin
36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High Fidelity successor to Second life virtual world considering bitcoins! on: April 06, 2015, 03:00:26 AM
I didn't know about High Fidelity, but it looks like pretty amazing tech: http://www.technologyreview.com/featuredstory/531751/the-quest-to-put-more-reality-in-virtual-reality/

It's exciting. Exciting times. In one interview Philip Rosedale talked about a vision or wish for the metaverse to be explorable by anyone, much the way we already do with static websites, instead it's through virtual reality and immersive 3d environments. I'm not on a private network for the time being so I can't download or run the HiFi package...but I am eager to eventually get to check it out. If anyone here does, please report back on your experiences and get screen shots ;p

Is it just me or is technology in a rapid evolutionary stage with everything gaining momentum, faster and faster, more disruption, more discovery, etc. Seems like there's so much happening and leading us into a beautiful new age yet most people are oblivious to what's going on. So many have no idea whatsoever 3d printing is even a thing, or that Google bought freaky cool robots and is into AI and curing death, and solar drone powered wifi...

37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using the blockchain to create/power sentient robotic life on: April 05, 2015, 06:38:32 PM
As I see it, consciousness is the source.  Brains are like a receiving and transmitting device and are needed as part of the nervous system and the body, but aren't the actual source of awareness itself.  They are more of a concurrent manifestation of biology on this plane of existence.

AI will become quite advanced in the future, but machines will never be truly conscious.  "Sentient robots" are probably impossible because consciousnss/awareness isn't derived from anything in the physical domain.  I do realize I'm taking a philosophical position with that statement so not everyone will agree.

The blockchain is great for what it does, but I don't think it is necessarily the right tool for AI.

Awareness, or at least self awareness is a phenomena of the brain(Physical) and it's not just humans that exhibit it, there are already some species of animals that are self aware such as Chimpanzees, dolphins, etc. There is no metaphysical domain that we know of, all our attributes, our thoughts, our "self" stems from the physical brain, which is why things like injuries to the brain may result in personality changes, depression, mental retardation, losing some abilities such as speech, coordination etc.

You only need look to love to know there is something beyond the physical.  some would say that is ultimately attributable to brain chemistry (material reductionism) but I would not.

With all due respect, the fact you would not reveals you're not actually interested in a factual explanation but need to be coddled by a romantic ideal. Everything you are, we are, is at its core electrical pulses and chemistry. Every state of being you are is fueled, caused, and directed by chemical interaction. Your feelings *are* chemicals. It's a variety of chemical interactions causing the end results of feelings, desires, thoughts, movements, actions.

You cannot, with all respect for reality and common sense, deny that if one were to have the brain removed from the skull, the individual ceases to live. The brain is the control center for you and bottom line, we as reproductive animals are only here to make more reproductive animals. All our sexual behaviors are not caused by mental illness or psychological issues but by pure chemistry. The chemistry of hormones and neurotransmitters and a cocktail of chemicals *cause* us to feel sexually aroused, *cause* us to attach desire toward one person, *cause* us to feel nothing at all for someone else, *cause* us to desire intercourse...and most pathetic of all, everyone calling females whores and sluts, or giving people a hard time about cheating - it's all chemically induced. The menstrual cycle in females is the entire clock and cause of a woman's sexual nature for better or worse, operating monthly to impel her to desire sex for reproduction.

It's all chemistry all the time.

Sexual desire has nothing at all to do with psychology, emotion, ideals, morality or values. It's built into each of us to reproduce the species.

Our bodies, our beings have no special cosmic purpose here and it's narcissistic and egoism that we believe this is why we're all here.

Our bodies are vehicles to transport sex cells and move them from one to another to make more bodies to transport sex cells and it's all operated and caused by brain chemistry.

Love is a chemical reaction. Sex and love are two different things. It's not cosmic, we're not here to be rock stars and celebrities. There's no such thing as a soul mate, there's no one person "put here" just for us. Cheating is only a social ill but Mother Nature built us for multiple mates (which is why cheating is inevitable if you tie up somewhere "for the duration). We do not mate for life, it's antithetical to our entire existence. We were all "born" to reproduce. Outside of that, sex is recreational choice. We are here to reproduce this species and if we adapt well the changing conditions we survive. If not, we're terminated.

It's all chemistry all the time...and this reality withstands all romantic notions from those too frail to face it.

Embracing reality as it is and not as you wish it to be is the first step toward living a productive, quality, intellectually, and psychologically sound existence.  Smiley

All good.

I wanted to help clarify the point of SL and platform running it as a 3d building environment and not a game, and that it has a lot in common with bitcoin, as much as potential evolution.

There's opportunity there for those who are so inclined to venture deeper. Open Sim is free. Download a copy of sim on a stick - simonastick.com and explore.
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: High Fidelity successor to Second life virtual world considering bitcoins! on: April 05, 2015, 07:22:29 AM
errrr, I beg to differ. I participated heavily in SL at first, was part of an SL art collective that was displayed in RL at various art galleries internationally. I built stuff and played a lot and created mirth and fun for any and all who managed to come onto SL with a SENSE OF HUMOR. Sad thing is, in the world where "the only limit is your imagination" I was confronted again and again by people like you (I'm assuming) who merely wished to create an online simulation of the real world with its heavily enforced moral codes and myopic views. I was always careful to approach these people politely and respectfully at first, and true to millennial fashion, they were rude and ignorant. I didn't fit into their narrow idea of propriety, often the first thing they would say is "you're ugly!" I kept altering my AV's appearance to look as far from the barbi/ken esthetic as possible, and you wouldn't believe how offended people are by this. Disneyfied babies. So....BOOM... I trololololo'd.

I must say, those that did actually "get" it, became fast friends and i sometimes wonder where they are at these days, sadly when I log onto SL it looks like the suburbs where Walter White lives. Reeeeeaaaaallllllll exciting.

here's an article that includes some of my interactions with the art collective http://wirxliflimflam.blogspot.ca/search/label/gog%20mannonen

what have you done on second life? played goth dress-up at a casino/dance club?

Hardly. I built entire regions, local community gaming events, hunts, scripting...I'm a content creator. If you read the other post I pointed that out. And you've confused me with the drama queens of SL. I was pro copybot. I ran 3 adult sims. I'm not mentally unstable enough to fall in love with a cartoon. I didn't recreate reality. My interest was and still is creating interactive immersive virtual environments for a variety of purposes. I was too busy making money to be trolling and griefing.

Try again.

40  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins and the zombie apocalypse on: April 05, 2015, 06:56:20 AM
if the internet ceases to exist , life will no longer be worth living ...

in all seriousness though , it would take an apocalyptic event to knock out the global internet / cause enough chaos that society breaks down ... possible scenarios that would likely do enough damage include massive solar flare , EMP/thermonuclear war , extinction level asteroid impact , alien invasion , viral pandemic event aka zombie apocalypse , and of course the most likely and my personal favorite - the end of the oil based global economy combined with all of antarctica and greenland falling into the oceans and submerging 80% of the human population areas within the next 50 years ... glad i like hiking and know how to swim ...

What about the giant supervolcano beneath yellowstone park in the USA erupting? It's been estimated it would destroy half the USA and block all sunlight out worldwide for years. No food will grow without sunlight and the survivors will mostly starve to death.

Nah...aquaponics ;p
