Yay! Then the poor will be guaranteed to starve and freeze as well!

Government guarantees this happens. Can you point to example where government money has not? I would be interested.

Or a example where "free Market" currency has harmed the poor, in the absent of government perversion?
22  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Petition to Nationalize Banks on: November 11, 2011, 01:08:30 AM
Please sign my White House petition to nationalize the banks.

I also have one for instating reporting standards on private health insurance companies.

-Thanks

This is a great plan that allows me to longer buy toilet paper, because what value is left in the "governments" fiat currency would be gone in weeks, hence putting to use as TP. Where do I sign?
23  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [Coming Soon] The CASASCIUS 10 BTC 1 oz SILVER ROUND on: November 10, 2011, 03:27:39 AM
I am thrilled to be able to announce that I will soon have a silver round worth real bitcoins.

This 1 troy ounce silver round is patterned after my other two coins so they all look like a matched set.  The front side has the big B bitcoin logo, and the back side has a hologram concealing the private key worth 10 bitcoins.

This round will also come in a protective capsule with an available gift box.  It's at the perfect price point for a moderately sized gift (final price to be announced later).

I am expecting a decent chance that these will be able to ship prior to Dec 1.  They will be available for purchase at Casascius.com for BTC, as well as MemoryDealers.com for USD.  I am considering accepting pre-orders, mainly if there is an interest in locking in the price, since it will fluctuate on both the silver and the BTC.

(I am also considering doing a 1000 BTC 1oz gold coin to fill out the set, but obviously this is a niche item only for the serious collector, since this would be a ~$5000 coin.  Would do this as a pooled one-time run.  PM if interested.)

You should talk to the people over at http://delvalleysilver.com/ they might be welling to open up their market to you.

Awesome!

I have been posting your flyers around my town. Do you have any of the new ones in pdf?
25  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mt Gox & Britcoin have sold out to The Big Brother on: November 08, 2011, 08:09:10 PM
If you want Bitcoin to be widely accepted, then the big exchanges need to cooperate with the government.

Bitcoin is not about facilitating some sort of underground shady movement of criminals. It is about reforming our monetary system legitimately.

Why cooperate with a den of wolves and thieves?

I am not sure what exactly you have in mind here. Your requirement is no additional equipment as well as no additional software? That seems tricky (?). But I'm not very familiar with current POS software systems and what kind of setups are in use today.

Sorry, i was referring to the idea that some have about building "credit card" processing machines that process just bitcoin transactions.

It seems easier to sell a small business a POS system then a $200 piece of equipment just to process bitcoins.
27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will a real BANK accept Bitcoin ? on: November 07, 2011, 03:05:59 PM
I think it is more likely that an existing Bitcoin exchange will become a government licensed bank rather than the other way around.

do you ever think mtgox would go this route?

I think it is possible that any of the exchanges could do this,  but it takes A LOT of money.
At this time,  I doubt any of the exchanges have enough money to do this.

Roger,

My problem with that is that the system is somewhat rigged.   I believe that no matter if an exchange or a bitcoin bank did meet the qualifications it still would be denied...  they are not going to allow Mt.Gox or Flexcoin to become an "FDIC member bank"

Best regards,
Roger

I think it is good that flexcoin could never become a FED back (if it was going to I would more my coins out). I think the bitcoin community holds business owners to a high standard, than the government ever could.
As a community we need to look within ourselves to solve problems that we see around us. This idea of running to the “STATE”, the entity that is the reason why bitcoin was created, is dangerous to bitcoin.
The need for money transfers, without the “STATE”, can be solved by ingenuity.

Mt Gox & Britcoin have sold out to The Big Brother

 Huh

You should change the topic to "Mt Gox & Britcoin make themself ready for serious-businesses to adapt bitcoin"

That article is excellent news for bitcoin.

qft

You really think a bank like mtgox's doing $1mil a month in book, at least, is going to be able to NOT cooperate with govt. authorities like some kind of sit-in protester?  No, they have to pay taxes and comply with subpoenas, court orders, and regulations just like every other business.

That’s just because they think inside the box and not outside it. The answers to fix the problems you have highlight exist. You just have to have an imagination. I know that can be hard at times because most of us went to government school and imagination is outlawed there, but imagination can set us free.

Do you have a update on this project?

Thank You

No, I'm afraid there hasn't been much happening regarding this project. Although I have recently started to collaborate with someone (user ne1), who would like to combine this with an Arduino, to get some hardware projects going. Should be interesting to see what comes out of that.

To the tablet comments here: I agree, a cheap Android tablet seems like a good hardware choice.

Before I ask my question I must first admit I'm not a programmer, but a business man.

Could a idea like yours be integrated into, lets say, a open source POS software system?

The reason I ask is because the only way that Bitcoin becomes widely accepted (in my opinion) is if it can be accepted along with credit/debt cards without the need of additional software or equipment.

It is easier to sell someone a POS system, then it is a new currency

Why would you want a "government bank" to hold your money?

Most of the bank in America is owned by private shareholders. They are NOT "government" bank.

Ok let me rephrase. Government controlled banks.
31  Other / Politics & Society / Re: when should you shoot a cop on: November 06, 2011, 01:20:17 PM
I have never understood the trepidation that U.S. citizens have concerning law enforcement. If you're so fucking free and safe why do you tremble in the presence of authority? Are they not here for you and governed by you?

Unfortunately, no.  We're not free and safe.

If you defensively resist the illegal actions of a cop, you'll get roughed up a bit, arrested, and then eventually take a plea bargain for 6-12 months for some BS charge so that they don't put you on trial for "assaulting a police officer" and put you away for 6-12 years.

Resist harder and they'll just shoot you on the spot.  They'll get some review that finds that their actions were reasonable under the circumstances, and no one will question what they were doing to you beforehand.  The only exception is if your buddy catches the whole thing on video and posts it to youtube.... Then they get fired.  For killing you.

Want to try it out on a small scale?  Try the TSA.  Go do ANYTHING that isn't completely compliant, subservient behavior (question their authority, complain about them groping you, ask to see a manager, refuse to comply with some inconsequential thing, whatever), and you'll find yourself detained for at least a few hours, and possibly end up with a criminal record depending on the words that come out of your mouth during that time.

There are tons of cases where someone does something seemingly innocent without any malice or criminal intent who then gets dragged through the system...  All you have to do is stand out in some way that draws their attention, and they'll find a way to make your life hell.  Convict you?  Probably not, but they'll wreck your life for months and you'll run up tens of thousands in defense costs.

The US is a police state, and it's getting constantly worse.

End The State?

Think about the "Send Bitcoin" button appears on the ATM, online account. Huh
Why would you want a "government bank" to hold your money?

Although there is an obvious issue of IP rights, licensing and proprietary technologies such as the VISA passcode card which can actually hold a password protected wallet on it feasibly, the fact is it doesn't even have to be so complicated.

Once you think the right way to go is a financial intermediary, an additional issues arrises--

Should you further utilize existing technology by merely emulating bitcoin transactions but in reality use USD?

A) agree to use USD and have literally unlimited options for deployment (through banks, credit card companies, etc) and connect all this to a wallet host to update the balance based on USD exchange rates. (not my favorite but absolute easiest to implement in existing financial world)

B) treat it as a gift card and have a protocol/server of its own. (the difficulty of this is entirely dependent on country and method of implementation).

C) have an exchange or e-wallet register as a financial institition and have the ability to have their own bitcoin balance cards.

what happens if you lose the card?
37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: March 2012 BitCon in San Antonio, Texas - News Thread on: November 02, 2011, 06:37:56 PM
I finally have some substantial news regarding the convention to announce.

First, I'd like to thank Seals With Clubs for becoming an official sponsor. Please go play some poker and encourage Freemoney to try to attend the conference in person.

Now, the really big news! You can now check availability and make your reservations with our discounted rate (which includes free in-room internet) at the Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency by using the following links:

Grand Hyatt San Antonio

Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk

Is there a min amount of rooms that need to be reserved? And if so how many do you have so far?
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Release of open source point of sale system (w/ video) on: November 02, 2011, 06:30:42 PM
Hi there! Today I'm releasing the first version of a simple Bitcoin point of sale application. It was mainly written to demonstrate the use of the green address feature, but can also be used independently of that. It is written in Python and works in combination with a standard Bitcoin client. It is targeted at standard PC hardware, e.g. laptop (used by merchant) + external monitor (facing the customer).

Here is a video of the system in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o84SfChQ-S8 . (Update: Here is another, shorter video of just the payment being performed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNpcf9rSBIk .)

More details and explanations, the code and a number of screenshots can be found on the project's page on GitHub: https://github.com/javgh/greenaddress-pos-tools .

Looking forward to your feedback! :-)

Do you have a update on this project?

Thank You

Has anyone every researched Herman Cain?

He has a degree in computer science. He is probably the only candidate capable of understanding bitcoin.

He also part of the FED at one point, so I don't he would support bitcoin!
