Somehow I got logged out. The capchas on this site are ridiculous.

I use a VPN and I find the captchas everywhere ridiculous - especially on Google.  I don't think it really has much to do with security... they just want to know exactly who you are and hate it so much when they don't that they want to cause you max pain in hopes you'll give up on privacy.  Duckduckgo is my best friend for searches now.

duckduckgo uses google search so I've been using https://www.webcrawler.com

<snip>

Wikipedia says duckduckgo uses almost everything but not google:

<snip>
DuckDuckGo's results are a compilation of "over 400" sources according to itself, including Bing, Yahoo! Search BOSS, Wolfram Alpha, Yandex, and its own web crawler (the DuckDuckBot); but none from Google.
<snip>

To me the results on DuckDuckGo most often look like pretty much what bing what deliver.

Last time I checked it I got the same results but that was about a year ago.

Finding a good search engine is like wack a mole.

I search for chip numbers alot and have found only bing really does a good job on that these days so thats all I use bing for and anything that uses google api has all those results culled.

I've been happy with webcrawler so far but have only been using it for about a week now.

The thing is, they almost all suck IMO because they do not offer search results like it used to be but instead try to "assist" you like some sort of clippy for the intertubez ("did you mean to search for"). I guess the only ones still affording to really index most of the web are bing and google anyway.
I use DuckDuckGo only because it can be used over tor, but I am far from being happy with the results as they also seem to differ based on actual tor exit node.

Good morning afternoon Bitcoinland.

Haven't posted in a few days due to getting food poisoning on Friday. Just started eating solid food (bananas, applesauce, oatmeal, etc) again yesterday. Bed-ridden but occasionally checking the price during this impressive rally and meriting a few posts. Too weak to bother creating any real posts though.

That sucks, get well soon to fully enjoy the ride!

(and may the solid food stay with you!)

We're still lacking a definitive confirmation of this bull market by math and science.

I'd really feel more comfortable with that uppity if the Lama came along and confirmed it.

OTOH, the ECB said it's going to zero, maybe that will do the job too.

📌Germany’s parliament

* OutOfMemory thinking about dozens of german ministers standing in line at the nearest Bitcoin ATM  Cool Cheesy

That somehow doesn't look like the Bundestag to me rather some local parliament, nonetheless your statement suggests the folks there having the smartness to understand BTC.
I doubt that people who think a 360° turn somewhat changes your direction or that there countries hundredthousands of miles away will really understand the basic concept of BTC. Not to mention the economics minister and his unicorn ideas of insolvency...

Some 90mins ago a strange fee competition seems to have started, we went from ~25sat/vB to 400-600sat/vB for the next block.
Are we looking at signs on the wall for a weekend dump or is some NFTard trying to write a picture of his cat onto the blockchain?

...for some reason my phone put its name on the image...

Get a different phone.

It's totally unacceptable for a phone to advertise itself on every email or image.

There's a good chance they want you to identify yourself to even use the phone. Totally bogus.

There's probably an option to avoid the stamp though?

I think you just need to go to the camera settings and turn off the "Watermark" option, and after that the pictures will no longer have any mark on them. What is much more problematic are the location tags on the photos, so if you are already in the camera settings, be sure to turn it off if you care about privacy.

Speaking of watermarks, how hard would it be to include your fondle slabs serial number/MAC address/subscriber ID in every picture i.e. via some steganographical tricks?
Of course that would be very evil and thanks lord, for the time being all the mobile tracking device producing corporations are not evil (some even explicitly promise that), but hypothetically speaking that could change in the future..

Great new docu about the Centra scam on Netflix... "Bitconned"
Cant believe I missed it for past 3 plus weeks (released on Jan 1).
Apparently my Netflix algo doesn't know I'm a bitconner bitcoiner.
No spoiler alert but the last 10 minutes of docu is eye opening.
And Jay… they play that great song you like to post…

Everybody Knows….

(Apologies if the docu has already been previously mentioned, I did make the effort to scan back.)
GO BITCOIN

Watched it last night, thanks

Had to fast forward parts like his scumbag family crying about the fucking piece of garbage.

I'm not surprised at all the piece of shit walked.

We see this crap every day and it never ceases to piss me the fuck off.

Accidentally I also watched it yesterday based on sirazimuths recommendation and I hardly could get the evil grin out of my face watching them finding out who Eric Pope is  Grin

That Trapani figure is as worse as it can get with regard to human beings I guess, but I have some faith that Karma (or a disgruntled "investor" FWIW) will get at him at one point.

Short squeeze in the making or the beginning of hugely depressing spring/summer?

(wondering for a friend ofc)

Edited to add: Had to sell a tiny bit to pay insurances, so it could resume uppity now any moment.

The needing to sell a bit for some "extra" expenses seems like it should have been in the upper $40s, not in the upper $30s..

#justsaying

Thanks for pointing that out, it already began to dawn upon me but now I know for sure..
Then again, when the invoices start to change colors so to speak you can't wait any longer for the squiggly lines to please ones desires and wishes.

Though seriously, in the past it worked more often than not to wait as long as possible to sell for basic needs (a mandatory insurance is not exactly an "extra" expense in my book).
And I'd like to quote Jimbo here in my defense  (IIRC, apologies if I'm attributing this wrongly to him) : "Buy if you can and sell if you have to" and it was clearly a "have to" moment.

Remembering for what I buyed the sats I sold yesterday I'd like to quote the lil doggie too: "This is fine".

What does it mean?

A kind of stair-step chasm between the "this is fine" doggie and his coffee?

Doggie has zoomed out enough and concluded all to be fine here at 41k, despite all the rumours, fears and speculation. This dog is fine with ~41k for the time being.

But I get it and I humbly accept that jojo69 is the only one here around being able to speak in pictures solely and be well understood. And after some re-consideration I may have to admit that possibly it might only make sense to me and myself without further textual explanation of the underlying thought.

Not bitcoin, but I found this "weird" snippet:

https://getpocket.com/explore/item/the-ghostly-radio-station-that-no-one-claims-to-run

What the heck? Bizarro..."the Buzzer", "the Pip" and the "Squeaky Wheel".

I'm of the opinion that it is a canary signal.

* psycodad grabs his old SDR and tunes to 4.625MHz to find out when the world is ending.

It sounds a lot like a combined canary and command channel. I.e. if you hear the buzz, you have reception, all good, carry on.
If the buzz is not there, somebody is blocking/jamming it, use "plan B" (the instructions you got for this situation ahead of time) then.
Otherwise you wait for commands to get active, I assume any commands will be issued either repeatedly or at fixed times (the article doesn't mention that).

But then again, if you're one of the evil super powers, what keeps you from just broadcasting with high power on that frequency a recording of yesterdays buzz to keep the sleepers inactive while you nuke the other evil super power.

Maybe its just a leftover from cold war that they kept running to keep a bunch of spooks in every country busy. I reckon the Russian are experts on the field of wasting opponents resources (i.e. firing $2000 loittering amo toward UKR and watching the other side launching a multi million Patriot SAM shooting it down).

Fascinating nonetheless.

Canary with a cryptographic component.

Ever hear of the soviet doomsday machine?

Are you refering to the Sistema Perimetr? If so, no didn't know that and thanks for the pointer.
Sounds quite scary and amazing at the same time. I don't want to even start to try to dig up what the other nuclear powers have in place for uncomfy situations like a decapitation first strike..

OT: ChatGPT is becoming "lazy".

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/jan/12/chatgpt-problems-lazy

I wonder: if in response to a prompt it would say: "make me"...would it mean that it is finally conscious...with a attitude of a teenager?

...it probably calculates an incredibly elaborate scheme of trading all 11 bitcoin ETFs vs bitcoin in a way that every single chain of trades results in the guaranteed profit.
Knowing the price and the NAV of all 11+btc, it is probably possible to do in real time.

Nice read, thanks for the link.

..
With everything going on in the world, I wouldn’t particularly mind if computers took over.
I’m pretty sure my MacBook would do a better job of running the country than most people currently in government.
..

While that sounds like a good pun (and I chuckled quite a bit while reading), we all know its true for most if not all of the world nowadays.
IMO, no need for a MacBook though, a ZX81 might be perfectly sufficient to outsmart most governments.
