21  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: May 27, 2015, 01:10:04 AM
My problem seems to have resolved itself oddly enough.

In regards to the current block it happens ever so often they get an insanely long block like this. I've noticed they seem to hit more blocks in the 14-15 range, a while back it seemed like if hash rate went beyond a certain level they'd start getting fewer blocks. It's probably pure coincidence.

It's a 1TH Visionman I'm running on there at the moment. That's the same stratum I'm using.

It'll run for a while, then start getting loads of rejects. At first I thought it was my internet connection so I rebooted my routers yesterday, it ran for a while then did it again. I flipped it over to a backup pool I mine on with another miner and it worked fine on there. I went in the settings and tried to various things like load balancing it with another pool and Slush's, when I load balanced on the other pool with Slush's it stopped hashing properly on both, maybe running at half for like 20 minutes, then after a while Slush's would drop back to 30gh/s now the other pool gets all the work. I can't see anything weird going on. I'll mess around with more stuff while they're on this long block.

Anyone having any issues with Slush's? My miners keep dropping to 30gh/s yesterday and today (not that it matters with how long the current block is). They'll run a while and drop to 30, doesn't appear to be an Internet problem either.
24  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What about our old miners? on: May 09, 2015, 05:31:43 AM
I use them to heat in the winter upstairs and keep the basement dry in the summer (I also keep an Avalon down there because my wood stove rarely allows the furnace to run). I use a block erupter cube in place of a space heater in my breezeway at times. It's like cutting the electrical bill because you get something back in return.

As far as another coin... Perhaps a premonition... Weirdest dream last night, out of the blue went to check the pool in my dream before bed (I usually check it in the evening at some point when awake if I remember). Graph looked much like it does now but had two lines leading off the left to point to the two last blocks hit as opposed to the current vertical setup but one was an alternate coin. In my dream I was surprised and went to set up a corresponding wallet. A sign of things to come?  Grin
26  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [NR 1] Triplemining.com <> BIG jackpot every week <> on: April 20, 2015, 03:04:53 PM
I ran older slower miners on Triplemining from time to time if one of my pools was having bad luck, or I would flip miners I had problems with over to see if it was the miner or the pool I was on to verify their hash rates. I never had an issue with them.

I think part of their problem was, and I'll admit I did it too, was you'd use the Gambler's Fallacy logic. You'd see the hours creeping up to where they'd hit blocks in the past and you'd jump ship for there. Other people would do the same. Hash rate would climb and low and behold they'd hit a block. The last round they were running you saw the hash rate creep up every single day the hour meter went higher. The last round went so long I even had a person on my mini pool I hadn't seen in forever.

The problem with using that logic is people would jump ship after they hit a block in recent times as well, only to return later when it had been long since one was found. Unfortunately I didn't get to see how many jumped after they hit the first yesterday since I was at work, I hope they put the stats up, if not I'll have a reasonable idea with the final payout though. The second block just shortly after just proves that timing it seemed like a good idea but really wasn't (and I'm sure they planned on pulling the plug after the first and didn't expect to get two in short succession, the 3 hour or so round for the second block was the shortest I'd seen in as long as I can recall) had the people just continued mining there all along more blocks would have been found.

Unlike a large pool where the hash rate is so high it would seem predictable, the small size made you think you could chance it.

Other than that though their software worked pretty well. I think if they or one of the mini pool operators marketed the lottery and got people who weren't mining to dig out old usb block erupters, or tried to attract hobbyists running smaller hash rate miners, they could have gotten the hash rate into territory to keep it viable.

I too would like to see some of their features elsewhere, or someone buy the software if they sell it.

Gonna hop over in a bit, pool is up around 330 Th/s when I checked. I was on Triplemining this moning before they shut down today and they hit two blocks back to back some something like 220. At 330 the chances have to be better and it seems long overdue.
28  Other / Archival / Re: Mining pools list on: April 20, 2015, 02:13:25 AM
Sad to see Triplemining go. Can't really see what was a drawback to their setup, worked well for me.

Hash rate was up sharply during the last days of the last blocks, so obviously it wasn't a forgotten pool. I think people were trying to time it, something of the gambler's fallacy.

I'd think they could have looked to smaller hash rate miners with their lottery and increased the hash rate through many small hash rate miners. Was there for the last two blocks (I suppose they planned to pull after the first of those but the other was a short round).

Slush Pool Sad Whats going on last week was hitting blocks non stop ..

Hopped over to Triplemining myself they usually hit a block somewhere around the hours they're at.
30  Bitcoin / Mining support / Block Erupter Cube Setup on: April 11, 2015, 03:56:56 AM
Anyone got a quick rundown of the precise setup of this thing?

I just bought one really really cheap ($2 and confirmed to work). I already had a power supply capable of running it that's been sitting in my basement for over a year.

I'm not concerned about the inefficiency, I actually thought this would be a clever replacement for an electric space heater (I bought a cheap 200 Gh/s to heat my basement this winter, where I got about $100 back in BTC instead of nothing this winter). I plan on using this one in my breezeway in the spring and fall when it's cool but not wood fire cold, my basement during summer and running it at my desk at work in winter (don't worry this won't be an issue). I thought this would be a good way to reimplement outdated miners.

I know these used the old getwork setup and need a stratum proxy. I mine on several pools but would prefer to run this on something like Triplemining for their weekly lottery if it's possible, if not Slush's would be OK (I have a couple of lower hash but somewhat more efficient miners on there and it's worked pretty well).

My main question is can you reassign its IP address? If you can can you do so by linking a laptop to it reassigning it, disconnecting then connecting to home network. I have two routers but my preferred runs on 10.0.0.xxx and is in the suitable location.

The simpler the rundown the better, I'm not terribly familiar with these. I haven't even fished out the power supply yet, but should have time tomorrow or Sunday, so I'd like to be prepared.

Page is down for me but miners seems still working  Undecided

It's happened a few times. I went into one of my miner's configs last time and they're still mining.

Here is the nice long block.

Kind of odd, when they were under 14 Ph/s they were hitting blocks left and right, above 14 seem to take longer. I seem to recall this when the hash rate would jump over 10 a while back all the blocks would take a while. Dumb coincidence?
33  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [27 BTC per block] PMpool.net. We have a WINNER. 1btc prize PAID! on: April 08, 2015, 04:25:44 AM
I found an apparently New old stock old gaming power supply, gonna test it on an old block erupter cube this weekend, so I'll point some hash rate over if they haven't hit a block by then and run for a couple of days.

Slush going on a blockbreaking spree.... 281% luck pretty cool Cheesy

One of my miners was down this morning and I still got 1/3 of my payout threshold in a day and I have it set so it should take a week under normal circumstances. Hope that 17hr or so block they had a few days ago was a fluke and this trend continues.
35  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BTC Mining Lottery on: April 07, 2015, 01:57:47 AM
from what i see is you mine here and you get tickets.. seems each share is one so you can get millions of them.

then it takes a random person and pays you a little bit each time a block is found on the network. it doesnt say how much tho..

so basically you could mine all day long and not get selected as a winner..

im guessing you are also giving the pool your mining rewards.. so if you find a block, they keep it.

They'd have to keep the block I'd assume? But I could mine all day and get nothing, or possibly .002 bitcoins as a reward? You'd need more hashing to increase your odds but the reward seems small and you might not win it.

For comparison I had about 200gh/s more directed at Slush's since last night because my hash rate was way down on another pool and it earned about .003 more than normal in the course of the day and really wasn't a gamble. Maybe I'm missing something? If I had an old block erupter USB I'd see what happens.

I still think if I were going to gamble I'd solo mine or take my chances on PMPool's reward. I was just doing some mining with an old low power rig I'd think someone with a random lottery that still pays when a block gets hit like Triplemining would be a better deal.
36  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BTC Mining Lottery on: April 07, 2015, 12:31:04 AM
I'm a bit confused on the concept.

So you mine on this site as a pool and are rewarded by some sort of lottery?
37  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: requirements for beginner mining setup on: April 06, 2015, 06:59:53 PM
You're pretty much limited to a USB miner. You'll earn virtually nothing. If for some reason you do decide to do it you might as well join a pool like Triplemining where you'd have a chance at a random lottery jackpot then you'd at least stand to win something.
38  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: antminer s1 buy on: April 05, 2015, 03:48:41 AM
Not really worth it unless you have free electricity or just want to do it for the fun of it and not to make a profit.

Edit: I should note I have really cheap electricity and still use two old miners as a result one I run on Slush's where it doesn't do too bad if they hit enough blocks, the other I run on Triplemining in case I hit their little lottery which would make it worthwhile.
39  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Came across 20+ miners, help? on: April 05, 2015, 03:13:13 AM
I'd run them if I had dirt cheap or free power 2300W though is brutal for 500 GH/s.

Dashboard is down but the miner I use on Slush's has a widely variable fan and is still humming along as though it's mining. I didn't call it's panel up yet to verify but I will if they're out for more than an hour.
