21  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is Libertarianism growing? on: April 07, 2015, 04:01:20 PM
American "libertarianism" is growing only among sheltered suburban white males with republican parents. Most healthy teenagers grow out of childish Randian philosophy before they turn 17. Only those who stop reading other philosophical works, the fundamentalists, remain libertarians.

Nice infographic, thank you!

You can call them simply middle class taxpayers Smiley.

You are absolutely right about the fact that govs can push it to underground - even though there is no coordination among the govs -, but the invention is out. They can not "uninvent" blockchain (decentralized consensus). They are powerless in the long run, and they do not even know; - just check out the Canadian senate hearing [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUNGFZDO8mM] , where 60+ grey haired guys try to comprehend networking, internet and crypto, it is hilarious :-D

I wouldn't underestimate those 60+ grey haired guys. They may indeed understand nothing (or even less than that) about and in technology (and all such), but they know people, their weaknesses and addictions by far better than most of us do, since, otherwise, they wouldn't get where they are in the first place. This means, in its turn, that they have guys at their disposal who are pretty well aware of what's what in networking, internet and crypto (and by far better than most of us do)...

You hit the mark, not to say they're very tricky manipulators, those grey haired guys.

Do I get it right that every next release will be devided into two different parts?  (I refer to the roadmap image in OP). So at first, things on the left side will be published and then things on the right side?
24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin: Under the Hood on: April 06, 2015, 05:52:56 PM
OK, so Bytecoin developers have made something good again.  But where can I download Bytecoin GUI? I haven't found any links niether in the main thread, nor on the official website.  Community doesn't  help too.

Bytecoin GUI-wallet will be published together with the next release by the end of this week.

But why haven't you published GUI-wallet today? I mean it would be much more important for the community. I guess most of the people, including me, are strangers to informatics and will gather nothing out of this technical description. I do understand how splendid this all is and how much you made for Bytecoin and Cryptonote technology development and so on. But it would be the best you finally developed something for the people too.

27  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is your trading strategy? on: April 03, 2015, 12:01:31 PM
I'm a little out of topic but are there any cool btc traders or even maybe online-services to invest in? I mean I'm no trader but wanna try this market by means of professionals.
28  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it better to save money or invest it? on: April 02, 2015, 05:25:21 PM
Is it better to save money in bank or invest it online, in real estate or maybe gold?

Depends on how much you have  Grin

I'd go with banks and online investments 70/30

BTW has anyone ever worked with mutual funds? I'm very interested to know more about it.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin website and roadmap release (including CryptoNote protocol updates) on: March 31, 2015, 03:59:35 PM

Of course wallets don’t matter this much. But payment gateway definitely does. I mean, this is huge thing for services/businesses/etc. Now exchanges, shops and any other projects could easily accept Bytecoin and other CryptoNote coins. This does matter.

I just haven’t got it how exactly this would work? Something like CoinPayments or what? How quickly can I implement this on my website, for example?

As it's said in the OP, a new payment gateway will be
Quote
capable of receiving and sending thousands Bytecoin transactions simultaneously

Why not make the same feature for GUI wallet?
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin website and roadmap release (including CryptoNote protocol updates) on: March 31, 2015, 12:44:47 PM
Looks inspiring. Seems like Bytecoin has started to shift from just another altcoin into a real long-range project like bitshares, litecoin, nxt and others. I guess it's important for the further development of bytecoin and cryptocurrencies on the whole. I'm gonna follow your further actions, guys. Good luck.
31  Economy / Economics / Re: What if US Dollar Crashes? on: March 30, 2015, 09:10:10 AM
I was thinking about this, what if the US Dollar crashes like speculated by many renowned economists around the world?
What will be it's affects on the beloved currency, BTC?

In my opinion that's another overreaction, which economists are very good at. I mean there's no secret US Dollar is troublesome, but hey it is a highly liquid floating currency being in popular demand all over the world, of course it looks risky.

The thing is there's a strong economy behind dollar's back so I think it's gonna stay fine.

Shit. I mean lol but there're real candidates who bet their lives on that project  Sad

Well at least they're not going to die in alone in space now, but I don't have any sympathy for them on any time or money they may have wasted on this project. I've said it was a scam since day dot.

Hum. Rough but reasonable.
33  Economy / Economics / Re: Money is an imaginary concept, but humanity is enslaved by it on: March 24, 2015, 04:26:58 PM

All the wars that we've had in the past few decades....would it be possible without a Keynesian system?  The speculation and asset bubbles?

Well I think it certainly would, but I can see your point.
34  Economy / Economics / Re: Money is an imaginary concept, but humanity is enslaved by it on: March 23, 2015, 03:30:05 PM
In most of the people's mind, money is a standard unit of value. Just like using meter to measure length and using kilogram to measure weight, people use money to measure value

Based on proven economy theory, value is decided by supply and demand: More supply and less demand will decrease the value, vice versa. However, this does not apply to money: Money can be used to purchase anything, the demand for money can be regarded as infinite. When demand is close to infinite, the supply will not change its value in any significant way. So for average household, the money's value feels the same for them regardless of money supply

So there is a strange phenomenon: Banks create money to dilute the wealth of the whole society, but when average people are becoming poorer, they need banks to create more money to rob them so that they could get a little bit more income. As a result, banks create 100$ of money but give them 1$ so that they can hang on for a while

If everyone's money suddenly increase by 1000 times, then money's value will crash right away. The art to maintain money's value is to keep majority of people's demand for money at close to infinite. So increased money supply should be used to buy assets and debts, to increase average people's living cost, make sure that they never have enough money. Only through this way, the money's value will be stable

The amazing thing is: Such a system seems to be formed naturally over time. It is the demand for money that enslaved majority of human. And the more they are enslaved, they demand more money, thus make the money more valuable

Of course the money I'm talking here is fiat money

Interesting.
Are you familiar with the publications of John Keynes? I bet you you'd love his ideas.

However I think this topic is more of a philosophical issue and it's not about money after all. But it's about human nature with its constant growing greed.
35  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: March 20, 2015, 03:15:00 PM
If you had to convert all your wealth to either Bitcoin or gold and keep it there for 10 years, which would you choose? Keep in mind the fact that Bitcoin has only been around for 5 years, and could be fundamentally different in any number of ways in 10 years.

Come on they are totaly different assets. You can hardly compare them.
Exactly this is the reason we should keep both assets. Ideally it would be the best solution to invest in bitcoin and in buy some gold as well. Of course it is the safest and stable way. Bitcoin is here to stay I think and investing in it is good, but its price volatility can be an issue, while gold price fluctuation is bearable.

I guess you're absolutely right. It's just that bitcoin is very unpredictable because it's too, erm, young Smiley But I suppose too that it's gonna grow some added value after a while.

And about gold, well I think we could define it as a good asset (investment) because it's limited so who gives a damn about its exchange cost.

38  Economy / Economics / Re: Advice on buying a house (Netherlands, Amsterdam) on: March 18, 2015, 04:04:40 PM
I'm thinking of buying a flat in Amsterdam or rather taking a mortgage out more specifically. Mortgage rates are pretty good and if I choose to I will have to invest little of my own money.

Pros:
  • It's in a bustling major city
The market seems to have bottomed and is in a small upswing
Easy for me to get a good size mortgage
    Rates are very low
    Some tax benefits to owning
    Beats renting
Can always rent it out fairly easily if I end up having to leave Amsterdam

You forgot to mention coffeshops   Wink

40  Economy / Economics / Re: EUR might drop below USD on: March 12, 2015, 01:51:18 PM
EUR is bleeding out faster than I thought.  It's like free btc.
That's what you get when you start giving it away for free. The Union threw its precious Euro into a number of black holes like Greece and Cyprus and now people are arguing that these countries would be prospering better without it. Soon Britain will be congratulating itself as GBP is doing great compared to EUR.

what was the result of EUR donation to Greece? as far as I know it didn't help a bit and Greece is still living on the edge of extinction.

as to GBP exchange rate - Britain indeed did a good job keeping it's exchange rate above all else, they are not depending on EUR in any way and this is playing for them.
