23  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitFury 110GH/s per rack? on: May 22, 2012, 07:12:12 AM
$90,000 for 110GH/s = $1.22 / GH/s
The BFL singles are $599 for 832GH/s = $1.39 / GH/s
So the BFL singles give you a little more speed, but since they use older fpga types, the BitFury costs probably less electricity.
Nice product!

lol $1.22/GH I'll take 500!

Wow - someone has out-eldentyrelled eldentyrell...

No proof as of yet.

They are getting 305 mh/s per spartan6

What are the dimensions of the barrel power jack? Same as BFL?

Inner diameter: 2.5mm
Outer diameter: 5.5mm
Barrel length: 12mm
Polarity: Center 12V

thanks

Thanks to everyone who posted, I started from scratch on the conf file and now the singles are working alongside the gpus.

I emailed bfl and they pointed me here:

http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm

I've installed those drivers and now the single detects as "USB Serial Port" (COM3)

cgminer 2.3.6 does not auto detect any singles and from researching the threads, that's the version to go for with singles.

I'm able to mine using -S bitforce:\\.\com3

I'm not sure of the syntax to start more than one. Does anyone know the json syntax to enter this into cgminer.conf for multiple com ports?

When I plug in my single, I get a driver not found error. Is there a manual way to install a driver? I've tried plugging in to several W7 machines.
28  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Undervolting a 5870 at 0.95v on: April 14, 2012, 08:06:00 PM
It is possible to run a 5870 at 850/150/.95 but unusual. I have one that will do it. I've also had them that won't do 850 on anything less than 1.100. And if you got the 5870 cards from bens bargains they won't underclock well in my experience.

You have to always check with a kill a watt to make sure that the readings you are getting are actually dropping the power consumption. The software readouts are not always accurate in any of the programs, including gpuz. And if you have a serious farm it may not be worth going through every card and figuring out what it will do.
29  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 mining thread on: April 14, 2012, 06:02:45 AM
Interestingly, I removed the offending VRMs, and I went from measuring a short across the GPU to a more expected ~4 ohms. I just couldn't wait to win an auction on a parts card so I buttoned it up and fired it up. It won't display an image and I can't control the fan, but the other GPU is detected and I can mine on the other GPU. I was expecting the BIOS to detect the missing VRMs and simply not post.

Now I'll just wait to try and pick up a completely dead card for $20 if I can. Trying to repair the extra GPU isn't worth dropping $100 on a card for 3 VRMs. Tongue

How do you measure a short across a 5970 gpu? I have a 5970 with a bad core.

and if bitcoin went south today every single person without exception(except those that paid in BTC) would pull their funds from them by charging back their cards since unless you shipped(with tracking) the item the transaction charge back is very easy to win...

Don't know which country you're from(I know I am just being sarcastic) but here in america the only business that pushes all the risk of all their crap ventures to the consumer without any arguing and whom doesn't have to deal with any of the consequences is the the government since they print all the money and have most of the guns.

There's no credit card option for a mini rig. Also, this type of transaction would be considered a business venture and it would be unlikely you'd win your charge back, especially after 15 weeks (6 months?). Same goes for the singles. If you started a 600 charge back within 60 days you'd be ok. But if you spent 15k, you'd have a lot of trouble and would probably lose. Recovering bank wire funds after 15+ weeks isn't going to happen.

At $1.5/MH, there is a real possibility you will never get your initial investment back.
32  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: GPU vs FPGA help me out.. on: March 31, 2012, 07:58:54 PM
It depends on your power costs. Realistically, (unless you get a special bulk deal) the only fpga that will pay itself off is a bfl single. And they take 13+ weeks to get. If you have available space, just go with the gpus.
33  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs - Bitforce Single and Rig Box on: March 20, 2012, 10:48:28 PM
They're making these for less than 300. The spartan double boards cost about $370? less? to make and these are previous generation chips.

Most likely the initial power estimates were based on 45nm and sometime during the process they got a line on some cheaper chips and thus the giant leap in power consumption. When they run out, the single ver. 2 will be announced, for delivery in 4-6 weeks.
You have some proof of your numbers? I'm sure everyone here would love to see some hard facts. Lets start with the chips themselves, perhaps you know exactly what they are and how much they cost? No? Then stfu.

Spartan 6 chip = 150-160 confirmed. Total double board cost =$370? reasonable estimate.

BFL selecting something older indicates they got a better deal.

Estimated power consumption going from 20W to 85W indicates there was a change in plan.

single ver.2 will be the elemental part of the mini rig box/rig box that is estimated to achieve similar mh/w to 45nm chips and is being discussed now by bfl themselves.
eldentyrell has all but debunked the assumption of a Spartan 6, and has posted a 10 BTC bounty in his thread for the output of the JTAG pins. I'd trust his judgement first, but I'd also like to see someone get that info and give it to him. I don't have the knowledge of how to do so however.

I'm not saying they used spartan 6. They did not. I'm using it as a comparison. ie If people can make spartan 6 boards and sell them at approx. 50+% higher and that stands up as the market price with multiple sources, then if bfl are using older chips they are doing it because they can achieve a better margin which would put their cost well under $400. My guess was 300 because it was seemingly enough difference to make them totally change their plans and redesign.

1.7 Volts?
Good luck with that.

How many slots does your mb have? It's way cheaper to just get a mb with 5-6 slots to start with. Those adapters are $30 ea., as opposed to a $100 mb with 5 slots.

Will these be stand alone units with ethernet or will they have to be usb connected to a computer?
39  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is BFL causing the difficulty increase? on: March 15, 2012, 10:25:39 PM
A bfl single is about 2x as efficient as a gpu. An icarus/ztex is 2x as efficient as a bfl single.

What is the advantage of something like this? It seems like the administrative effort wouldn't be worth it to raise $4000. Do you have an automated way of calculating profit and distributing payment?
