I'm a crypto trader and while I monitor the markets daily, I don't understand a lot of the technical aspects surrounding bitcoin. So, I have a couple questions.
1. I just sent a transaction worth about $5k, and paid almost $30 in fees. From what I can remember from my past transactions, it was nowhere near this. In fact, I found one that I sent a couple months ago worth about $7k and the fee was only $6. I used bread wallet for both of these transactions. Is there an explanation for this and is there anything I can do to prevent this? From what I can tell, sending ETH is far more economical and faster, I might add.
2. I've been hearing a lot about Segwit and I think I get the general idea of it, but can anybody tell me what this might do to the price in bitcoin? Or if Segwit is definitely going to be the solution here? Every day I grow tired of the bitcoin nonsense (bickering, long confirmation times, high fees) and every day the temptation to switch all funds over to ETH grows stronger.

Hey everybody! Just wanted to update you all. Thanks a lot for your feedback. What I ended up doing was sending about 25% of my total funds to an exchange where I trade alts and BTC daily. It has been quite profitable for me. I actually would have made more money if I had just kept everything in bitcoin, due to the price increase. I am happy with my decision, however, since I was able to discover a new income stream. Since I have been so successful trading, I have actually quit my real job and now I trade full time. I cashed out about 15% of my funds to pay for rent and other expenses in case this new venture fails and I have to find a new job again, but so far it's looking great. I am still benefiting from the price increase from my remaining BTC and I'm going to keep holding it. I see a good future for bitcoin and I'm so happy to be a part of it.

My most profitable arbitrage opportunists have come from buying on Bittrex, selling on Poloniex. You guys might want to check it out. Sometimes I'm able to capitalize on a $200 difference.

Poloniex transfers are a PAIN. I've never actually had one sit for more than 24 hours, though. I know a lot of people have been waiting for days in some cases. They seem to have stuff together until the next DDOS. I can't stand them, but they're my favorite trading platform.
