you don't even have to remove your recieving address, when you copy back over your backed up wallet.dat it will have the same addresses and balances and everything. in fact, you could have other miners/machines still mining to that address if you had multiple machines. just make sure you back up the wallet.dat when the bitcoin client isnt running, and make sure no one else can get access to your wallet.dat while its backed up.
Thanks for reply, reason i asked for removing receving address is this thread: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=8274.msg120569#msg120569

I know this is kind of OT. I'm formatting/changing my drive(s) soon and i've read this: Backup The only file you need to back up is "wallet.dat".
I make backup copy of that file and i remove receiving address from Deepbit to avoid problems. I re-install everything and put wallet.dat back to where it belongs and i set new receiving address to Deepbit. Is that everything i need to do, or is there any other steps i must ensure before i wipe/change my HDDs?

We already have SSL cert and https is available. All website users will be automatically switched to https protocol in about 20 minutes.
That is really cool. Thanks!

Tycho would you consider adding https functionality to your website for increased security. It would help prevent sniffing logon attempts over http!!! Yeay SSL
for example using: http://www.cacert.org/its free and what ive heard its not bad service.

Back, and changing address and verify email worked good, Thanks [Tycho] for your hard work on deepbit

Just asking:
I'm going AFK for ~12hours in 15minutes, should i leave miner on, or is it "useless" till i set my address?
|
|

Not sure wich helped, but i can access to deepbit now.

I don't have other browser, but i install some browser (maybe Chrome as i've been hearing it's good and fast) and i also change my router to use Google DNS.
When that's done i reply here.

I just checked site/my account and can't acces to it? res://ieframe.dll/acr_error.htm#deepbit.net,http://deepbit.net/account If you have problems accessing your account page - tell me, which error message do you see. Can you access other pages on the site ? Nope, i tried cleaning caches, restarting browser and this is error message: Address bar shows this: res://ieframe.dll/acr_error.htm#deepbit.net,http://deepbit.net/ And error message: We were unable to return you to deepbit.net. Internet Explorer has stopped trying to restore this website. It appears that the website continues to have a problem.

I'm not sure is this OT to this thread, but after deepbit went down i pointed to j2 and then back to deepbit my miner is not getting full power?
Tried rebooting, restarting and re-installing. Still no full speed. Full speed is ~280Mhash/s and so far i get ~140Mhash/s?
EDIT: guiminer is what i use
Few hours ago it went back to normal/full speed, not sure what happened?

@Kiv
Is it possible that you add "failsafe" in Guiminer?
For example in deepbit, if main server goes down then miner automatically starts using j2.deepbit and so on?

Actually, I am curious. If the address is not in use by any client, then it will float around the network for some time. There must be a mechanism where it gives up (or maybe stays with the sender since never confirmed which I doubt). After a while there could be a lot of orphaned coins floating around the network without such a mechanism. Anybody know what it is? I suspect the result is that if not collected by a client it will eventually be destroyed as the tail end of chains are clipped.
Can anybody confirm?
There is no way to take the address for yourself, even if not used (since it is generated by you private key) so the odds are infinitesimal that the address would ever possibly be yours if you hit new address for the rest of your life.
+1 I was wondering this same too. Hopefully someone knows and tells it to us.

Question about this: "Failure detection threshold (1-3600 minutes)". Is there any optimal value for it, or how i should choose what to enter in it?
"Averaging window for hashrate display (5-30 minutes)" I've set this to 30minutes AFAIK it's only for getting more accurate number in signature/in My Account page.

@Tycho: Yes, of course. It's like gambling. I can't afford high end rig, so i follow the flow and stick with proportional no matter what

I give PPS 24h risk run. I don't think it's going to be worse than my current rewards i receive.
It's been now near 12hours and i end this risk run. Even i'm one of the small guys, PPS is worse for me. I should have stick with proportional. In case anyone else wonders this and hashrate is ~280Mhash/s, stick with proportional, it's better for your rewards even it might seem otherwise.

So, is it best for us small guys to switch PPS?
