Please add a French Election Market where we can back and lay Le Pen.

Currently there is https://fairlay.com/market/next-french-president-5/ where we can back and lay Macron but Le Pen is not clickable.

Yes, yes, I know backing and laying Macron in a two horse race IS the same as backing/laying Le Pen, their odds are different sides of the same coin, inversely correlated.

BUT people want to bet on Le Pen, not lay Macron. Please add a market where Le Pen is the option being bet on or layed, if this is not possible a market with three options Macron, Le Pen and Other so we can bet on Macron and Le Pen would be great.

Thanks.
24  Bitcoin / Legal / How does Bitcoin gambling affect average cost basis? on: February 07, 2017, 02:16:23 PM
Hi, apologies for the softball question - not an experienced investor at all, just want to make sure I get it right.

Imagine this situation:
John owns 100 bitcoin, bought for $40,000 so an average cost basis of $400/coin.

a)
How does a 10 bitcoin gambling profit (made at $1000/coin) affect his average cost basis?

b)
How would a 10 bitcoin gambling loss, also at $1000/coin, affect his average cost basis?

I'm assuming the answer are:
a) $50,000/110 = $454.55/coin
b) $36,000/90 = $400/coin

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks,

Edit:
What if I a) happens first, then 50 days later b) happens (assume both at $1000/coin)?

Did John just raise his average cost basis to $45,454.55/100 = $454.55/coin despite having the 100 coins he started with?

About fees...

So, I had my first bets settled, they were fixed odds bets and to my surprise it seems I have been charged a 3% fee on the total returns, including my stake!  Shocked

Is that right?

Maybe it was naive but I was expecting the fee to be applied to winnings only, not the stake!

Fee is pretty easy to interpret - it is 3% taken from all bets. So yes, it would be deducted off the total payout (which would include your initial stake). Note however you will never get less than what you bet. So if you bet 1BTC and total payout was supposed to be 1.01 BTC, you will in fact receive exactly 1 BTC.

Not sure what the issue here is as that fee is also shared with the author of the bet, and is fairly low (compare that to 10%+ fee to some other real-events-betting sites)..
Thanks for the quick reply.

Just a suggestion, would you consider changing the fee structure on Fixed Odds bets? For example to a 5% flat fee on winnings only and the host gets nothing.

The host is offering the betting book, their cut is in the odds they offer.

I've never come across a bookie or exchange that charges fees on staked money before and this does not encourage action from backers or layers, in fact it make you uncompetitve when it comes to Fixed Odds.

A bet at odds 1.20x (-500 US Odds) has an effective fee of 18% under the current system.

Let me be clear I am not talking about Parimutuel Propositions and in fact I like the way that works on your site.

Cheers,

m4king.

Hi, great site.

Is it allowed to make non-time weighted propositions which are duplicates of time weighted ones?

For example there are a few Time Weighted Boxing or MMA propositions and timed weighted is not really appropriate for these bets. It discourages late betting which would be the majority of bets for this sort of sport, people wanting to bet on the day. Information is known in advanced, odds will not change drastically, time weighted is not needed.

Cheers,
