Hey Team!

Well, today is a great day! I just got my S5 in the mail! What are my first steps? What should be the pool I go with first and secondary? I am so excited to be a part of the Bitcoin world!

So I am about to start mining shortly! What is a faucet / do I need one?

MC

I think you're definition of mining bitcoins is earning BTC, am I right? I know a lot of newbies on a local bitcoin group on Facebook that has the same thoughts with you regarding what mining is Cheesy Yes you can earn with mining but don't use the term mining to replace the word "earning". Anyways in a faucet, you can earn satoshis (1 satoshi =0.00000001 BTC) there by doing small tasks like solving captchas.

Well most beginners start with faucets so I guess you should need one to earn little BTC to start with your journey on bitcoin world Cheesy Explore also this forum and you'll find more earning opportunities other than faucets. Good luck man!

Thanks for the info! Mhm 3 cents not worth my time.. I am very excited to get my S5 this week! What pool is recommended? I also noticed you can configure the difficulty?

Thank you for this information! Would I connect it to the PSU or a port on the S5?

Hello Team!

I would like some guidance on fan modifications. I have recently purchased a S5 and I would like to learn how to replace the default fan and add a secondary fan for push/pull. Is this easy and just unplugging the fan and replacing it? Does the Antminer have a power input for the default fan and a secondary fan? What other tips do you have to make the unit run quiet?

Edit: Does the unit also shutdown if it gets too hot?

Thank you!

there are lots of threads on this, for example:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=908494.msg10559364#msg10559364

personal experience: noctua 3000 works in push together with ultrakaze in pull (put ultrakaze on constant fan using molex directly from PSU)

http://www.amazon.com/Scythe-DFS123812H-3000-Ultra-Kaze-120mm/dp/B001JKNMBE

Total expense ~$40, miner is much quieter, but temp of the boards will rise to ~58C (with 28C ambient), which is still OK-I run them like this for months.

Thanks for this information! Would one fan connect directly to the Antminer and the other would be constant using a molex connector?

Does the S5 auto shutdown if the unit gets too hot?

Hello Everyone!

First, before I ask my questions I wanted to say this is a fantastic community and just by searching a majority of my questions have been answered. I have some questions I was not able to find here.

I just recently invested in a S5 along with the required supplies I should have the unit shortly am I am excited!

1. The current subnet I have is 10.x block and I have been told the S5 is configured to the 192.x block how would I configure this or would it be best to hook it up to a 192.x block and reconfigure it?

2. The S5 will be running in a extra room that I have.. I hope to expand my setup with one more unit if things go well. Regarding noise is there any fan modifications I can do? I noticed some units are running 1 or 2 fans.

3. What pool would you recommend for the most successful running a S5? Daily payouts, low fees?

4. How can I remotely monitor the unit or mining status using my iPhone?

Thank you,

Matt
