A stranger says to you: "If you lend me money, I can pay back in double, in three and a half months' time." He doesn't quite tell you how he's going to achieve this. Do you trust him?

Also, he calls himself a pirate. There certainly is a sucker born every minute and I guess in a way Mr Pirate deserves his plunder.

StartupHQ looks fantastic!

I'm not working on any Bitcoin projects right now but I'm only a few blocks away so I'll come say hi!
23  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitfloor is kind of awesome on: June 20, 2012, 09:15:59 PM
I've been buying up small quantities of BTC for a good while via Dwolla / Mt.Gox but since Dwolla introduced the new AML verification it created enough friction for me to stop (yes, I'm lazy).

Two weeks ago I discovered Bitfloor and so far I'm really impressed. I have tried a couple of deposits directly from my Ally checking account (using Popmoney) - nice and easy but it took around 3 working days to get a credit.

Today I tried their direct cash deposit in Chase and.. wow! Handed over some cash, immediately took a picture of the receipt with my cell and emailed it to Bitfloor (timestamped at 1:26pm). At 1:52 I got an email confirming the credit Grin

Thanks Bitfloor!

He's too busy telling everyone how it totally wasn't his fault...

It's more likely related to people betting on European economy falling off the edge of the cliff. And taking the world with it!
26  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoinica Claim Page - not sure if this is a good idea on: May 25, 2012, 04:25:30 PM
Hey ninjarobot, I'm also a newbie who's not happy about the Bitcoinica mess.

I have no interest in leveraged trading but I finally cracked and deposited some bitcoins (to earn interest) only days before the whole thing came crashing down.

I agree that Zhou's proposed claims solution is extremely flawed. Though I've lurked around the forums for ages I have no reputation here and I see no reason why that should have any bearing on the claims process.

The Bitcoinica user ID rule is yet another attempt by Zhou to shift the blame for this disaster away from him ("look, everyone who was a user under my watch will get compensated!"). Given that he bears the lion share of the blame*, I really hope they keep him away from the claims process.

* Root causes of the situation we're in: 1.) large amount of bitcoins sitting in 'hot wallet' and 2.) no offsite database backup. It is my understanding that Zhou is largely to blame for both of these.
27  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: May 25, 2012, 04:00:35 PM
Hi bitcointalk mods!

I'm in the same boat as ninjarobot - a long time lurker with a few coins on board of RMS Titanic (aka Bitcoinica).

Whitelist would be greatly appreciated so I can join in the finger pointing game.

Thanks
