21  Economy / Lending / Re: NO INTEREST LOAN! on: June 09, 2012, 09:34:13 AM
i am not trying to gain trust, i am allowing others to gain trust

Cheesy yeah right @ 1% per day.

look forget the idea, the interest is high because is it such a small loan, i would be making less than 5 cents a day...
22  Economy / Lending / Re: NO INTEREST LOAN! on: June 09, 2012, 09:05:03 AM
New scammer tactic:

1. Make an account
2. Head straight to Lending
3. Offer trivial loans
4. Ask for 50+ BTC loan two weeks later

i am not trying to gain trust, i am allowing others to gain trust
23  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Anonymous Instant Reloadable VISA card on: June 08, 2012, 03:58:47 PM
These already exist in my country but much much cheaper...
If anyone is interested you could pm me i guess
there is a one off cost of $7 (AUD about 1:1 for USD at the moment)
they come with a minimum of $20 and are reloadable, no charges for reloading or taking money out of the ATM.
all the features seem to be the same as the above mentioned card.

yea Ive seen them at the service station. Do you need to provide ID to buy them ? Ive always wondered that....

these actually only came out in the last day or two, from the post office, will find out and post more details tomorrow.

Interesting. Could you give us more details (fees, conditions, etc.)?
sorry, are you asking me or the original poster?

Esp. since he's sitting on pile of BTC https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=86283.0  Grin

I'm obviously not going to be giving out 100 BTC or anything, these are primarily to gain trust.

I don't see how giving out loans increases trust. It's the other way around to gain trust.

Im giving the loans out to people who would like to gain trust, that way they can get larger loans with less trouble.

34  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What items/services would you pay for or have you paid for with Bitcoin? on: June 07, 2012, 03:56:13 PM
Is there any interest in a BTC bank?
BTC would be donated to a central account, this would then be loaned out in large amounts for interest.
The interest would be split, 50/50 or close to it.
I understand a lot of trust is involved, so what sort of things should i do to increase trust for me?

Hi buddy,

I actually work in a bank (Hedge Funds these days) and I have often thought the same thing, however I think there are several moral and practical issues you'd have to overcome.

Bitcoin is designed to be decentralised and unregulated - so I think your first issue would be to set up a virtual bank where you could move funds between accounts easily and identify each user.

Also the lack of regulation begs the question what you would do when someone failed to repay their loans. I don't know how it works in normal life but on Silk Road a user usually posts a thread in the forums asking for a loan, stating how much they need and when they need it paid back - usually it's for a small amount as they need to round up an order to X number of Bitcoins.

Obviously it helps if you have been on there a while and are more trustworthy - we had a "Hero Member" asking for 0.5 BTC the other day for instance and he quickly received the funds he needed.

Why not build trust by starting up a bank in your own right? Perhaps you could start with "micro credit" loaning out small sums to people and then gradually increase the sums as they proved themselves to you?

All the best,

V.

at the moment i only have quite small amounts of BTC, holding for others would be a way to offer larger loans quickly.
The issue with BTC being decentralised is obviously a major problem though.
Thanks for your help Smiley
35  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Buy Bitcoins With PayPal on: June 07, 2012, 03:52:46 PM
could someone explain to me why buying BTC through paypal is not a good idea?
is ebay any better?

gah!!!!!

its sooo easy to get bitcoins, don't even bother with paypal.

Go make an account at www.mtgox.com

go to funding options

select "cash deposit via Bitinstant" from the pull down menu

print out the transaction slip it gives you and bring it to your bank.

Your account will be credited within the hour.

It is easy if you live in the US - for people in the UK & Europe there are very few ways to buy Bitcoins with cash.

I should lay my cards on the table and say I sell Bitcoins for cash to people over here in the UK but it doesn't make it any less true to say that the only ways to obtain Bitcoin safely are buying them for cash or selling products/services in exchange for them.

Any other methods are potentially traceable. I work in a bank and can tell you for nothing that the exact time of each transaction, even a cash deposit is recorded, therefore your face will be visible on security cameras!

I don't want to sound overly paranoid. You can hugely increase your anonymity by using services like Bitinstant in the US and also running your BTC through a coin mixer.

V.

would you sell to other countries?

Or investing in some mining hardware?
40  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is mining still worth it? on: June 07, 2012, 01:19:37 PM
Hi everybody.
I'm new here as well.
Can anyone suggest any alternative to BTC that I have any chance of sucessfully mining with a decent CPU?
I've read how microcash is a scam but I dont know about any others enough to start.
Thanks
