21  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New ASIC Cedartec on: May 02, 2013, 11:38:20 AM
The fans and vents all looked photo shopped onto the case! Each of the two small fans appear to be cut and pastes of each other!!

If they had of put half of much effort into to te video as they did their website they might be a bit more believable.

Seriously - you sent how much money developing these ASIC chips and you can get a decent video camera or make an effort to shoot something does doesn't look like a 3yo is holding the camera and manually focusing??

Agreed-not interested in an expensive bitcoin FPGA, but if it had an appropriate amount of DDR5 ram with high band width and decent hash rate that would be interesting. I would buy that with no interest in upgrading to the BTC ASIC that came later.

Once it paid itself off it would remain profitable for some time, and then sold second hand to a university. A BTC ASIC would have to be thrown out once it stops being profitable (if it ever gets its ROI)
23  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Solar Mining on: April 29, 2013, 12:55:14 PM
Seems in most places ar9und the world solar panels are an investment in the environment not so much a business decision.

If you wanted to really save money on your mining you'd get a 12v battery setup and then run 12v power points to your miners and connect them direct to the wall without a PSU. Your PC would still need a PSU because it uses different voltages, but a laptop could be run directly off a 12v point.

This saves on the losses of the 12v DC to 220v AC conversion, then back again by a PSU. If you consider the DC->AC conversion is maybe 80% efficient then even a good PSU is 90% effcienct (most laptop PSUs are waaay less) then you are actually only getting to burn 72% of what your panels produce.
If you ran a 12v battery system your losses would be far less (in the charge/discharge of the batteries).

It would also be far cooler than just having grid connect!

How much is a Mars?
They are giving you a $2000USD trade in on a Jupiter so I'm guessing it isn't around the $275 for a jalapeno.

Still $7000 for a Jupiter *when they start shipping* is a good deal. However when they start shipping will the price go up like avalon and BFL?

Do they have test boards for the Mars? Photos? Videos? Publicly known test account

Do they know the specs of their chips??

If you want your mining devices to help heat your house just put then in or near the air intake for your heating system assuming you have an air heating system.
If you use hydraulic heating you could get excellent performance by using a component built liquid cooling system and have the out put heat exchanger built inside the cold part of you hydraulic heating. You wouldn't want that house heating liquid in your rigs but having a liquid to liquid heat exchanger could work well - if you want to go to all that effort.

I like the name "bitcoin borker". Even if they don't call it that - we should give their devices that nic name!

Good to see people are actually get through to PEOPLE who can at least confirm their intent in person. So maybe we can just take their company from scam status to vapor ware.
26  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GX Mining Ltd announced the launch of their GX-100 a 100 GH/s ASIC Bitcoin miner on: April 11, 2013, 03:09:48 PM
Bitcoin got more press today due to the huge "correction" the exchange rate took because somebody gave away millions of $$ worth of bitcoins that people then dumped into the exchanges to cash out.

The world won't care if some conman goes to jail, bitcoin will get more famous because there are more and more cons out there.

If these/this guy gets nabbed and we find out about it, hopefully it will make others think twice about going for us. Currently they make a website, put a post on bitcoin talk, they get busted, but a few are still stupid enough to give over a few thousand $$s, and the cons are happy. They don't care if their new account name gets a bad reputation and people look up all their fake details and spam them with PMs.

But if bitcoin scammers start going to jail.....
27  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Has anyone ever considered creating rack mounted asics? on: April 08, 2013, 11:13:07 PM
I used to work in the spare office space of the server building for a regional Australian Bank. It wasn't hundreds of thousands of square feet.

And the company I worked for had its own server rack for running its own servers and switches etc. You know what there was even a bit of space left over that would fit an ASIC rack....
28  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC on: April 08, 2013, 11:02:21 PM
is it just me or do the chips just look like little black tiles with something printed on them?

I feel sorry for the next REAL company who comes along and has to jump through hoops to prove they are real. But sending product to be tested is the best start.
29  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GX Mining scam? on: April 08, 2013, 01:18:16 PM
report them to bitpay so they can't get paid
report them to google so they are less likely to get found on line
how about report them to the police? Oh wait I just did that!
30  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GX Mining Ltd announced the launch of their GX-100 a 100 GH/s ASIC Bitcoin miner on: April 08, 2013, 01:15:49 PM
I've entered the website details and the details of the scam in the UK fruad squads online reporting form.

Fraud is illegal.
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 08, 2013, 12:50:43 PM
Sorry to be skeptical, but here we go again

New company springs up
no product or even product specs
shipping some time in the future
join the cue and only pay half price-what a deal
32  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: gxminer scam ? on: April 07, 2013, 11:40:56 PM
Somebody ring the number, ask for an address to do a pickup, then tell them you are going to ring the police unless they pull the website.

Seriously these scam sites should be reported to the police.
33  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Just purchased a ModMiner QUAD... on: April 06, 2013, 04:32:20 AM
I tell you what, with the price gouging by BFL, the slow shipping of avalon, and the high bitcoin price, I'd be tempted to stick with FPGAs if the prices could come down to reflect their hash rate.

But you know what- a jalapeno is still a better deal at 6 times faster than a mode miner and half the price. A little single is similar in price and up around 30x faster. SO I guess it would be impossible for a FPGA to be priced per hash even against the increased pricing of BFL.

Looking forward to a lot more competition.

Any info yet as to the "official" announcements?
35  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [SCAM] labsnovo.com claims to have ASICs on: March 21, 2013, 11:00:25 AM
come on-using 360watts and no sign of ventilation?

This is another sticker on a box asic
36  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoins to AUD on: March 21, 2013, 06:02:48 AM
Thanks Stevo-think I've found my new exchange.

I fly on Sunday-go where the work is!
37  Economy / Trading Discussion / bitcoins to AUD on: March 19, 2013, 05:10:20 AM
how do people trade bitcoins to AUD in their bank account, and also buy bitcoins with AUD from their bank account?

I was using spend bitcoins, but they have stopped allowing people to sell bitcoins for cash which was delivered to your bank account.

I'm going to China for work soon-maybe I'll just have to trade BTC for RMB, then send it back to AU with the rest of my savings.
38  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 16 Avalon photos on: March 16, 2013, 02:04:48 AM
They should use a modular PSU to get rid of all the excess cables. Very messy.

And why the third different fan? Probably just there to prevent circulation back through the third hole and they use the same front/rear plates.

Hopefully they make improvements for V2. However I don't think they will last much after V3 with the 28nm ASICs due later in the year.
39  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking for system integrators for new asic on: March 14, 2013, 10:45:47 PM
holly $#!+
one chip pulling 60-120ghs and 15W?!? That is way better than I had guessed. I was going for 64 cores, but not that frequency or that low a power consumption.

Cooling requirements should be tiny too. Just a small 1" square heat sink and fan would more than do for a high speed/power version. And the boards will be tiny with the SD slots and OI taking up most the realestate.

Thanks for the info Helveticoin. I'll be in the market for some mining equipment in a couple of months, now I know what I'm saving for (just need a price!)
40  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Looking for system integrators for new asic on: March 13, 2013, 11:17:22 PM
When should we expect the official release with the integrators?

The "USB-ASIC" thread shows a cool idea. Single chip on a tiny PCB USB board. A 28nm chips could get maybe 8ghs compared to BFLs 4.5. Maybe more with a small heat sink and a decent hub with good current flow
