Is it true that unlike BTC, the creators of ripple actually own all of the currency to start with?

Interestingly, at the moment they give you 10 CHF just for setting up an account! I am in the UK so I looks like it got converted and it shows a £7 balance. I am curious, would this amount actually fluctuate according to the exchange rate with CHF? I wouldn't expect that, waking up and seeing a different amount in the wallet not knowing why...

But if not, that means they have to back all these fluctuating currencies with the CHF, and absorb (or benefit from) fluctuations going either way. Not really a problem at the moment seems the printing presses are more active in US and Eurozone than in Switzerland!

That means it would be in fact something in between, essentally matching any currency. As their wallet solution is interest free and doesn't have withdrawals (you can only pay with it) there is probably no incentive for hoarding or holding large amount though.

The race for digital money is definitely on.

Personally looking forward to bitcoin-central (now being revamped as 'paytunia') to offer proper insurance on their deposits.

Afaik, no coinbase equivalent in the UK yet, ie with link to bank account. Imho this is really what will widen adoption of bitcoin, making it as easy as paypal... So still lots of growth to look forward to when other countries catch up to the US on that front. Of course for more advanced users, much better to buy btc from a dedicated trading site as I assume ease of use means higher fees Smiley

Hi,

Nicoin here. Looking forward to participate to this fine forum where people just 'get' bitcoin. I have been following bitcoin for about a year, and as I am getting increasingly worried about macroeconomics / fiat fiasco, I realize how bitcoin might be the light at the end of the tunnel! Daily reader of zerohedge - like getting a cold shower to keep you alert.

I am particularily interested in bitcoin being used for crowdfunding, esp in the creative industries to 'cut the middlemen'. You can find me on btcjam with same username.

I am based french based in the UK, so quite proud that the first insured bitcoin bank will be french - finally we are back in the race after precursing the internet with the minitel!

Anyways, lots to talk about, looking forward to have posting access to the full forum.
