23  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Pair of Avalon 4.1 $150 pair/$100 for 1 shipped CONUS <-- MAKE ME AN OFFER on: August 05, 2016, 11:14:44 PM
Looking to a pair of my Avalon 4.1 units.
Looking for $150 USD with shipping included to the continental US. It's just not worth shipping outside of that.
You get both units, a cable to attach one to the other, and the cable / USB adapter thing.
You will need to get your own RPi

PM me or post here.

-Dave

Please what is the power consumption?

So I dropped the price to $165 for the pair.
I have them running @ 980GHs each pulling about 550 Watts each. Not efficient by today's standards but they are quiet.
-Dave

1100 watts for the pair...

This is a bee https://i.imgur.com/fbd5FvR.jpg and I fucking hate bees and I don't want to use the insert the image function in case one of you all hate them too.  I had to resist the urge to puke while pulling this picture off Google and I could barely watch it. When I was little I was stung by a bee while in Switzerland on vacation several times, and maybe it wasn't a bee but one of those other things that look similar and behave the same disgusting way. At one point I stepped on one while on a walk in the mountains and ever since I'm very scared for them.

You know the things you are scared for because something happened when you were little is super powerful stuff. I know if I am stung by a bee nothing will really happen to me but I am fine with not taking any chances and I know it's a powerful psychological thing buried deep in my childhood and you don't mess with that neither do you overcome it just like that.

If somebody can recommend a sort of weapon I can use on very long range to kill bees please do here. I wish I could kill them all and erase them from earth I don't even care what they do for nature they should all die.

Was it the same 'bee' that stung you several times or its bastard cousin the wasp? A bee can only sting once (then it dies) whereas a wasp can sting many times... It could have even been a hornet.

As MisO69 said, we need bees to pollinate our crops, out little flying friends are in decline due to GM foods and the proliferation of neonicotinoid pesticides such as 'Round Up' from Monsanto (This is also linked through its use to depression in humans too). You can read more about this at http://www.ecowatch.com/15-health-problems-linked-to-monsantos-roundup-1882002128.html

Anyway, we really really need bees and I am sorry to hear of your fear of them OP, I hope in time you will accept them for what they are - oh, and with most stingy or bitey creatures - if you leave them alone, they will probably leave you alone.  Grin
25  Other / Off-topic / Re: Worst Movies You Have Ever Watched on: August 05, 2016, 09:54:21 PM
the worst i think is Piranha

'Attack of the flying Piranhas' is quite bad too, not the worst film ever though.  Some really bad films are pretty good, because they are som bad, like the series of films 'Tremors', they are almost a parody to the extent that after watching the third film you just have to continue even though they get worse and worse. #LoveACrapMovie
26  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do Atheists hate Religion ? on: August 05, 2016, 09:50:47 PM
Hate is a very strong word, some choose not to follow a religion such as in the same respect others do not follow politics, of course there can and is some crossovers there too, but really to blanket quoted saying that all atheists 'hate religion', this is a somewhat misrepresented and totally unfair basis for fact.

28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Bitfinex Hacked] So , learned the lesson ? on: August 03, 2016, 07:23:52 PM
After MtGox, Mintpal, Cryptsy and now Bitfinex, people should learn to not use exchanges as
your Bitcoin / altcoin wallet. Store coins you don't use for daily trading in you own wallet, preferably
in an offline wallet ( hardware or paper ).

Muggings, armed robberies, phishing and even card cloning, go on all day every day in the 'normal' world, security only counts for as much effort you put into it.
29  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Bitfinex Hacked] So , learned the lesson ? on: August 03, 2016, 09:10:58 AM
It is quite amazing the amount of BTC that was purportedly taken in one foul swoop and there does seem some inconsistencies with the 'security' layers that were 'hacked' into - this should well all come out in the wash in time... Whatever the case, in that the general public to advanced traders - the ripples from this latest loss will spread far and wide; even down to a mining level especially after the recent reward halving, let's hope the smaller guys will get some remittance for the funds lost. I am not forgetting about the bigger fish but they can take blows easier and with less consequence than us mere mortals.

31  Other / Politics & Society / Apple's MacBook Pro doesn't respect the professional on: July 30, 2016, 01:48:00 AM
Remember the MacBook Pro you could upgrade? Until about 2012 you could upgrade the memory and hard drive yourself. Since then, Apple has locked down the computers. If you don't pay the premium from the start (and it is a steep premium), you're stuck with whatever comes out of the box.

That's probably fine for most consumers, as long as they're smart enough to understand their storage and RAM needs when they buy. But for professionals, it's a rude awakening to find that high quality machines with great design force buyers into an expensive straightjacket.

Apple seems to think more of itself than it thinks of its users.

This movie is in German, with English subtitles. The transcript is available in English in the tab below the movie.

Did you know that Richard Nixon once advocated a basic income plan?

33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin get the ability to implement reversible transactions? on: July 28, 2016, 09:33:32 AM
Can you imagine if this was implemented, not that it ever will be and someone found a 'reverse transaction' flaw...
34  Other / Politics & Society / Trumps Russia ties threaten national security? on: July 27, 2016, 06:01:15 PM
There is some evidence that the DNC servers were hacked by the Russian government.

See, for instance, "Russian "fingerprints" left behind on DNC hack - CBS News"
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/russian-fingerprints-left-behind-on-dnc-hack/

There are also reports that banks in the United States will no longer make loans to Donald Trump because he has defaulted on so many loans through bankruptcy.

See, for instance, "Donald Trump Owes At Least $250 Million to Banks - MoneyBeat - WSJ"
http://blogs.wsj.com/moneybeat/2016/03/20/trumpwallst0320/

As a result, Donald Trump's campaign has allegedly grown dependent upon loans from sketchy foreign sources, and from Russia, in particular, according to some sources.

See, for instance, "Trump & Putin. Yes, It's Really a Thing"
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/trump-putin-yes-it-s-really-a-thing

If true, this could mean that Trump is indebted to Russia in ways they could potentially compromise national security if he were elected.

Trump may believe that the Russian hacking attacks imply mutual respect. Instead, Vladimir Putin may actually relish the opportunity to exercise control over Trump if he should be elected president of United States.

What do you think?
35  Other / Politics & Society / Re: will people really suffer without sex education on: July 27, 2016, 02:53:43 PM
I suppose it depends on what you mean by "sex education." A lot of people who promote sex education assume it means something we all agree on. But really people have a lot of different ideas about sex. Some emphasize the technical aspects. Some emphasize the religious. Some emphasize the relationship between self and other.

Everyone gets some kind of education or indoctrination about sex, formally or informally.

40  Other / Off-topic / burnnote is shutting down. What wil you use instead for private messaging? on: July 26, 2016, 04:39:31 PM
Today strong privacy is available to millions of people through end-to-end encryption in Whatsapp, iChat and Facebook Messenger.

Burnnote has been useful for sending secure codes or passwords detached from other identifying content. Once the message is opened, the content vanishes.

What do you use when you need to send secure content like a password?
