21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ 1st Alt Coin to Implement Bitcoin Core 0.9.0 ✔ on: March 28, 2014, 07:22:37 PM
I have held digibyte for a long time.
It is time to switch to x11 and be a leading alt, not a follower.
We are not completely sure the X11 algorithm is the best one to use right now. The fact that GPU's run cooler on it does not mean it is more efficient by any means. It simply means the existing X11 mining software code is not optimized and is not fully utilizing the GPUs hashing power.

We also have a strong belief that there is a private miner out there fully utilizing their GPU's with a custom coded miner gaining mining advantages over every one else. And if there is not, there will be one shortly.

A similar thing occurred when people first started mining Bitcoin with GPUs.

Should GLD be added to the scam/sh*tcoin list?: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=348057.0

Has always been some fishy stuff going on around GoldCoin. I too first thought it would be a great coin to get into.
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ADVICE] Moving a little of the college fund into Goldcoin (GLD) on: March 28, 2014, 07:06:56 PM
After during my due diligence I decided to store away 100K Goldcoins on a paper wallet in my safe for my 10-year-old son's college. I know it's a risk but compared to bitcoin it seems like better odds of getting his education paid up with $1000.

Maybe I should buy 3 or 4 more coins instead of having all my eggs in a single basket. Can you guys recommend some other coins that I might want to look at and why?
Perhaps you should do a bit more research about GoldCoin. And I have a feeling this might be another MicroGuy pump account anyway.

24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: First hand experience with Darkcoin mining and x11 algo on: March 28, 2014, 10:29:08 AM
All this means is that the X11 miner is poorly coded and not taking full advantage of the GPU.

The public miner, anyway. No doubt there's a private miner out there that's 100-200% more efficient.

anyone is more than welcome to improve on the gpu miner
They have. And they're keeping it to themselves.
I agree with Hazard. Someone out there is laughing at this thread right now. The GPU is simply not being fully utilized.
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AURORA "airdrop" - before and after March 25 on: March 24, 2014, 09:27:38 PM
I really hope they follow through with this and everything turns out well. Some main stream news outlets are starting to pick it up: http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/innovation/cryptocoin-their-own-icelands-auroracoin-experiment-n59216

If this turns out good there will finally be a positive light showing on alt coins.
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Shitcoin Cleanout and Clean Up Has Begun- Join the Revolution on: March 24, 2014, 06:38:55 PM
Does that clear things up or do you want to keep throwing inaccurate & unfounded accusations my way?

My bad.  Missed that part.  I apologize.
No problem, glad we could clear that up and thank you for the apology. I really am trying to do what's right here.
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Shitcoin Cleanout and Clean Up Has Begun- Join the Revolution on: March 24, 2014, 06:37:49 PM
Furthermore I want to clarify a couple more points. First, I have never had any contact with any of the people who started this thread. I am involved with no "gestapo" like "secret" force attempting to control the alt coin world.

This is the first place I have seen a discussion finally start taking place about the current problems facing the alt coin community and I was hoping to contribute to an honest, intelligent and open conversation for the betterment of all of us. The kind of insightful & helpful discussions you used to find on BitcoinTalk. I remember a time when for the most part you never saw discussions where people were making the vulgar, immature & misguided posts attacking other people &coins that you see all over the place now.

If we could come together and simply create a fact based, unbiased thread that gave people a place to look up information about all coins I think that would be a great place to start. People could make informed decisions for themselves without reading a million threads to gather the information.

If you want to keep attacking me, fine, go ahead. I have nothing to hide. I will not support any illegal illicit activities by any group, but I will not sit idly by while this place gets trashed and over ran by scammers/ trolls and every other bozo trying to make a quick buck.

I genuinely believe in this technology and I am dedicating everything I have to try and make it better and bring it to main stream society.
28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Shitcoin Cleanout and Clean Up Has Begun- Join the Revolution on: March 24, 2014, 06:23:36 PM
So count me in. This might not be the best approach but at least something is getting done. This is a movement by the Freemarket and if a group of people get together and start forking coins then I guess they were not meant to be in the first place (DigiByte included).

I am all for starting the Purge!

So you are endorsing extortion.  Wow.  You really think that forcing people to pay 20 BTC to "protect" their coin has anything to do with the free market?

This is criminal activity (extortion and DDOS attacks), and it's just stupid.  I can't believe so many people are jumping on board.

Are they offering you a cut of the extortion money they collect?

Did you pay the extortion to protect DigiBytes?  If so, how much did you pay?

Also, what part are you playing in the DDOS attacks.  That's a great solution, too, eh?

Perhaps you could get the gang to use your coin exclusively for their extortion payments.  But you'd have to rebrand it.  Maybe you could start calling it Extortion Coin.
Perhaps before jumping to very inaccurate & false assumptions about me you should:

A) Re-read my post where I clearly edited and pointed out the following:
Quote
Edit: I am in support of informing the community about blatant scam coins and I do not believe mining to test the "security" of a scam coin that results in a fork to be illegal. However, if other illegal activities such as DDOS attacks, extortion attempts & malicious threats are taking place on here then I do not want to be a part of this or have anything to do with this movement.

I feel that getting this discussion started is very important to the survival of the alt coin community. This is the 1st place I see it taking place.

B) Re-read the posts I made above the one you just posted.

Quote
I never said I endorsed illegal activities. I stated if a group of people wanted to get together and start cleaning up the alt coin community for the betterment of all of us I support it.

Testing a coins "security" by mining it is not illegal. If people start extorting devs and doing other illegal activities then no, I would not want anything to do with this particular movement.

I haven't read through all 47 pages of this thread nor do I have the time. If blatant out right illegal activities start taking place then no I do not want anything to do with it.

I also stated this is not the best option but it is a start and it is getting the discussion started. If this infinite scam coin creation continues it is going to bring the entire alt coin movement down with it.

Does that clear things up or do you want to keep throwing inaccurate & unfounded accusations my way?
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ DigiShield ✔ USD/DGB Coming Soon @Prelude.io ✔ on: March 24, 2014, 05:49:34 PM
If you were to implement x11, consider me on board.

There other hash solutions out there the best known of these being Scrypt-Jane and Adaptive-N which for the most part are the same. They both use a variable N factor which is locked to 2^10 in Scrypt. This is the memory requirement, 2^10 works out to 1024 bytes. Vertcoin a very popular Adaptive-N coin currently uses an N factor of 2^11 which works out to 2048 bytes, every time the N factor goes up the performance of miners drops by half. Vertcoin currently has half the performance of Scrypt and has a maximum N of 2^32 which works out to 4GB, most graphic cards cannot even do work at that level and with the current hash rate the difficulty of Vertcoin could not go low enough to support that level of N. Scrypt-Jane and Adaptive-N may be ASIC hostile but they are also GPU hostile.

X11 uses 11 well known and high performing hashing solutions chained together to generate the hashes required to generate new blocks. Since it uses 11 different hashes it is complex and unlikely to see a ASIC for it any time soon. The good news for miners is that they can use X11 right now to avoid multipools and start gathering coins that are going to become very important when the Scrypt ASICs hit. Mining X11 gives 3-4 times the hash power of Scrypt, uses less energy and generates even less heat.

This is the solution that people have been looking for.
Thank you for posting this feedback. Which specific coins are currently using X11? I would like to run some of my own hardware tests for comparison to see exactly how it performs.

^ That is a very valid point. It would make sense for Litecoin to get added before Dogecoin. Especially if you are brothers.... which I assume they get along and communicate regularly?

I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. The whole "meme" thing is pretty popular in China. Is there a Chinese version of Reddit?

Very interesting way of looking at marketcap data. Would be interesting to see a fully compiled list ranked in order calculated in this manner.

What are your thoughts on Thunderclap? I could never let it take over all my social media accounts and start making posts for me any time it wanted. I feel like this is a huge invasion of privacy/ loss of control. I would like to hear what motivated other people to sign up for this service? Am I missing something?
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Shitcoin Cleanout and Clean Up Has Begun- Join the Revolution on: March 24, 2014, 04:54:40 PM

You know, I totally agree. I see nothing wrong with testing security. But DDoSing exchanges, extortion etc seem to be what this is really about and it seems to me that the amount of duplicity associated with dealing in btc is it's biggest drawback, next are technical weaknesses.

I don't think maza coin is known at all outside of the btc community so that negative publicity can't really affect btc.

The character of it's community, on the other hand, is under close scrutiny, and their actions will always be made to seem worse than they really are. Just think if a wave of extortion/DDoS attacks associated with btc hits the mainstream media.

btc won't be worth a plug nickel, if that happens

I completely agree with you as well. I do not want to see negative media attention for extortion/ddos attacks. I just put an edit at the bottom of my previous post:

We are all against centralization & control as that is not why crypto currencies were founded. But at the same time we as a community need to provide some kind of information resource to help people make a sound decision when deciding upon which cryptos to invest in.

If people continue to get burnt my pump & dump scam coins it will only keep making it harder & harder for crypto technology to be taken seriously.

36  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★★ DigiByte ★★ [DGB] ✈ DigiShield ✔ USD/DGB Coming Soon @Prelude.io ✔ on: March 24, 2014, 04:39:34 PM
With so many new coins being released, and people moving from coin to coin like a mob, what do you think is the best way for DigiByte to break away from the pack?

We feel that focusing on getting DigiPay up and running and a few big merchants accepting DigiByte is what will allow for this to happen. What are your thoughts?

Digibyte can maybe tap into the Chinese market perhaps try and get onto bter.com exchange
This would be nice move.

It would be like getting onto Cryptsy...
This is a good point, promoting DigiByte into the Chinese market would be a great step. The first thing we need to get figured out is exactly how to translate "DigiByte" into Chinese. We have had several people tell us how to translate it or how they translated it but it has received different Chinese names from different people. This obviously can cause problems.

We don't know who to listen to on this as people are obviously translating it to what they think the name should be. Are there any reputable sources that might help with this and would understand exactly what we are trying to accomplish?

My Google Translate powers suggest that Digital Byte would be best!  Grin

数字字节
How similar is this to the name for DigitalCoin? We where told once before we could not use "Digi" because it translated to the same thing as "Digital" and was already taken by DigitalCoin. Since we do not speak Chinese we have no way to confirm this.

So Jared Wright of Idaho... yer publicly stating you support the efforts of Operation Shitcoin Cleanout...

Does this include property damage and computer crimes?

You are a brave man... LOL  Grin

Must people I try and share Bitcoin & alt coins with quickly state "you let yourself get suckered in to that Ponzi/pyramid scheme."

Is that because of the reputation of bitcoin, or an altcoin no one ever heard of outside of a very specialized segment of the population?
Mostly Mt. Gox recently and all the negatives surrounding Bitcoin I would assume. But Maza did a big disservice to us all by blatantly lying about being an "official" currency. The story about them being the "official" currency of the Lakota Nation was picked up by several main stream media sources including Forbes.

I have a feeling the same thing is going to happen with Auroracoin. It is going to become a PR nightmare for alt coins. I hope I am proven wrong as it will be better for all of us in the long run. Hell, I like the idea behind it, its just impractical and there are 10,000 ways it can go wrong and set the rest of us back.
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Operation Shitcoin Cleanout and Clean Up Has Begun- Join the Revolution on: March 24, 2014, 04:14:53 PM
I completely agree something needs to be done about this problem. Having been a member of this forum for over a year now and having surfed it since 2012 I can testify to the fact this problem has escalated 10,000 % the last few months. It is giving crypto technology a bad name. Must people I try and share Bitcoin & alt coins with quickly state "you let yourself get suckered in to that Ponzi/pyramid scheme."

We are not going to change this main stream attitude when we keep getting bad press from regurgitated blatant lies such as the Maza/Maplecoin fiasco and soon to be Aurora "Flop." This is giving all of us a bad rap. Something needs to be done.

Just look here at the Mazacoin/Maplecoin data. They both are hosted on the same server in Kansas, with damn near the exact same website layout. This is pathetic:

It is outrageous to claim you are the "official" crypto currency of Cananda and not even bother to host it in your own country, unless you are obviously not from that country and are just looking to make a quick buck. Maplecoin should at least be launched by a Canadian and hosted in Canada!

I am sure there are many more easy connections to be made between several coins if people started digging. Another thing that needs to become the norm is for coin developers to come clean about who they really are. Why hide if you are trying to make an honest sincere attempt at launching a coin that is to be taken seriously?

For starters, yes, I am the founder of DigiByte, yes my name is Jared Tate & I am from Idaho. I am doing my damndest to do things transparently, honestly and professionally with DigiByte. I released my identity here: https://www.linkedin.com/pub/jared-tate/90/9aa/257

Noblecoin is another coin that has been very transparent and my hat is off to them: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/NobleCoin-P2P-Digital-Currency-7449332.

Everyone knows who Big Vern is at Cryptsy. They know were to find him, and this is also the reason it is still the #1 exchange. People some what trust him. And they have an avenue for recourse if they get burnt.

Everyone knows the Bitcoin core developers, everyone knows who started Litecoin. But how many of these pump & dump devs actually have the balls to come clean and face the not very forgiving and dare I say vindictive crowd we call a community?

DigiByte is the one and only coin I have ever created, plan to create or am working on. We have publicly posted our 0.5% premine (Which is now down to about .2%) and it has been genuinely used to further development of DigiByte and will continue to be used to do so.

In the future I don't mind helping other coins I believe in if I can be of any service like when we helped Dogecoin implement DigiShield. I do not think crypto technology is going to be a winner take all scenario. There is room for a handful of coins in different niches. But I have no plans of launching any future coins. DigiByte is great name & brand and I will continue to work as hard as I can to make it the best possible coin for the betterment of everyone.

Before the last few months most new coins were an honest attempt to improve crypto technology or fulfill the demand in certain niches. I am still a fan of several coins besides DigiByte that have now been overshadowed by pump & dumps. It is ridiculous how screwed up some of these launches have been. Any coin that tries to duplicate this 50% premine "airdrop" crap should be shunned right away. There is no way it will turn out good for anyone. Cryptos will continue to get more bad press as soon as this air "flop" occurs.

So count me in. This might not be the best approach but at least something is getting done. This is a movement by the Freemarket and if a group of people get together and start forking coins then I guess they were not meant to be in the first place (DigiByte included).

I am all for starting the Purge!

X11 seems to be generating a lot of new traction & attention.  We are definitely looking more into it. Still not sold on it being the best solution yet.
