21  Local / India / Re: is there any trusted sites where i can buy bitcoins via credit card or paypal on: July 24, 2016, 05:09:13 PM
Indian credit cards are 99% rejected on most international websites;  For me they never seem to work on Circle etc.

If you want to bank transfer to CEX.IO from your Indian bank account, you have to wire their account with extra bank fees and the bank clerk will ask you several thousand questions and forms to fill up.

Just buy via Localbitcoins.com and build the local bitcoin ecosystem than sending your money to exchanges out of the country. If you buy from LBC you are keeping the money within India itself and also allowing the LBC trader to make a few bucks as commission, thus helping the overall Indian Bitcoin ecosystem.
22  Local / India / Re: trading gold is illegal on: July 24, 2016, 05:03:02 PM
Yes some people use bitcoin to launder money, but this is very very very small compared to the Gandhis and the Bofors and the Mallayas who launder money via Rupees and Swiss accounts. So let us ban rupees itself?

As with any worthwhile invention of substance, there will be ways to use it for the betterment of mankind and there will be ways to use it for fraudulent activities.

23  Local / India / How to get your Bitcoin Debit Card in India on: July 24, 2016, 04:52:00 PM
Some of you guys had asked me how to get a Bitcoin debit card, so here goes:

First of all, A Bitcoin Debit Card is the same as your Bank Debit Card, except that the balance in the Bitcoin Debit card can be loaded with BTC using a service like the one I am about to explain.

This is completely safe and legal, and you will be getting a Visa or Master Card Debit Card from these providers, that you can use for shopping in any store all across India. The balance can be loaded using the web application by converting BTC to USD.

Note that there are several such service providers internationally, but this is the only one that ships to India.
This is the service that I am going to explain:
https://www.wagecan.com/

1. First create an account on WageCan, and while creating an account make sure you enter your exact name as per Passport or any other Gov' ID Proof. And they will immediately verify your phone number with OTP. These details cannot be changed once entered and submitted, so double check them before submitting.

2. Next step is to upload documents to verify your account.

Why verify? Any exchange or financial service operator must comply with KYC norms;
So they will ask you to submit ID proof (Passport), Address Proof (Bank/phone bill) along with a Selfie of the ID proof in your hand and your face clearly visible.

Once you complete these simple steps, they will take around 2-3 days to verify, and once verified all the order options will be visible and you can order your debit card.

3. There are 2 options - USD debit card and EUR debit card (Your preference). I went for the USD card.
When I ordered my card, they were giving out free invites so I had a fee waiver on the card and shipping fees, but at this point they are well established hence they charge around 0.1 BTC for delivering your Debit Card via DHL (Perfectly fair fee, for the world of opportunities they provide)

4. Once shipped the card reached me in 8-9 days and then you have to activate it through the website by logging in and entering the 3-digit code from the back of the card; and also set a PIN code for purchasing and withdrawing money through the card.

5. Once you have activated the card and set the PIN, the next step is to recharge the card with BTC and then use the BTC balance for your shopping and other expenses.
How to recharge? The WageCan website will provide you with a BTC address and you can simply send your BTC to that address and the balance will reflect on the card.

Now they have some interesting offers here, if you recharge with more than 2 BTC the first time, you can get extra 0.2 BTC as bonus. And for even larger recharges they have bigger bonuses.  Grin

That is pretty much it, once recharged you can use the balance for your groceries, fuel, and even shopping on any international website such as Amazon.com (International sites generally do not accept Indian cards but since this is a USD card, everything goes through smoothly.) I can verify that I have used this in Reliance marts, couple of restaurants, in malls and airport lounges all over India.

Card Usage Charges:

WageCan charges around 1% for each ATM withdrawals and about $1 for each time you swipe at a Point-of-sale establishment (grocery/fuel/etc)
My opinion is that these are very reasonable charges.

The card limit is upto $50,000 and you can use upto $3000 in a single transaction. These are the card bank charges. On top of these there is 1% conversion from  USD to INR incase you spend in Rupees.

My experience is that these charges are random yet minor; Once my expenses Delhi airport, there were no extra charges at all.

ATM Withdrawals: ATM Withdrawals seems to not work in Indian ATMs at the moment, but I spoke with the WageCan team and they said they will resolve this very soon; As India is not a financial super power counttry, our ATMs are not the latest ones and hence they have to include additional features and tie up with special banks like CitiBank to offer this service. (this is what I was told )

Apart from using this card to convert BTC to your daily expenses eaily, it is a huge boon when travelling International. Most Indian Debit Cards and even Credit Cards get rejected abroad but this card always works and I was able to withdraw money from and ATM in USA, Spain and Dubai without any problem.

WageCan Support:
They were really fast in respondng to my questions and also offered to call me back couple of times to clarify things. Excellent service.
24  Local / India / Re: BEWARE of using MOBIKWIK/PAYTM etc to trade BTC on: July 24, 2016, 04:10:32 PM
Hey hey hey!  Grin
We're talking about BTC wallet and MobiKwik/Paytm wallet both are different(not to confuse between the both)

Yes they block all the wallets to which the fraudsters send the money, so if you are just buying BTC, you will only be sending Rupees from your mobikwik wallet to another person's wallet and that person will send you BTC to your bitcoin wallet.,
So simply buying BTC, you will not be receiving these fraud transactions into your mobikwik wallet. I don't see any reason why they should block a wallet which does not receive any transactions.

I see more of a risk whoever is selling BTC in exchange for Mobikwik or paytm transfers.

But still safer to stay aware of these types of scams, these mobikwik wallet companies are really badly regulated in the first place (I really want to question who gives them the power to operate like a bank without even the most basic security features like OTP...!!!!!)

I would say never use these companies, but sometimes they make minor things such as paying your phone bill a bit easier than credit card or net bank.

Oh I thought you meant buying Mobiwik by selling btc, in which case you would have money come into your account. To be honest you can still continue buying these things as long its a reputable trader, and there is a surety he has obtained these funds through legal ways and not from another hacked user or something.

That is correct. I have mentioned that too, reputed traders with whom who you have worked before are perfectly fine.

But if you are trading this method on LBC, and find someone with 0-7 prior trades (or maybe IP from some other country) who wants to pay via MobiKwik or Pytm to you then eyebrows must be raised, and you have to be careful since there is a high possibility that they could be operating a hacked account

The worst ordeal is dealing with MObiKwik support! I have 1k INR frozen in an account being scammed this way and I have pretty much given up hope on ever seeing that money in my hand. I have sent them everything from my ID to bank statement  yet they never respond, it feels like I'm dealing with amateurs.
25  Local / India / Re: how to deposit money to BTC-e from India (Indian BTC Traders Help) on: July 24, 2016, 03:58:25 PM
Do check which country the exchange is based out of. An exchange can accept incoming payments only in the currency of the region they are located in. BTCe is Europe so there is no way to deposit Indian "money" into there, you can deposit BTC and exchange it into EUR and also withdraw it as EUR.

28  Local / India / Re: [Discussion] Ways to earn bitcoin for undergraduates and people with free time on: July 24, 2016, 02:47:58 PM
Agree with everything.

gambling AVOID!!

Faucet OK FOR SMALL AMOUNTS LIKE 0.0005 BTC - ONLY LEARNING HOW TO USE BTC

OtheR ways to earn small money - there are some work silly tasks for btc sites, but these are complete waste.
For Ex: you have to select 100 images of cars and boats etc and you will get 0.0010. Waste of your time and brain. Better as undergrad, study well and study premium indemand topics and research things that will make you earn more money in future, than do silly work like select images etc..

NOTE: If you have skills like web design or PHP etc, you can make good money in BTC; check out reddit ::::

29  Local / India / Re: Bitcoin Debit Cards in India on: July 24, 2016, 02:39:47 PM
I have used bitcoin debit card several times in India to fill fuel in bunk and in grocery shops (reliance mart), etc.

Infact I have one right here in my wallet which can be loaded through BTC on WageCan website.

The store clerk person accepting the debit card has no idea that it is bitcoin based or what ever. They dont need to know as well.
Infact it is just like a normal bank debit card but in USD or EUR currency, but with the added advantage that you can load via BTC through service providers.

So please stop confusing BITCOIN DEBIT CARDS with something else like "BITCOIN ATMs".

BITCOIN DEBIT CARD = NORMAL BANK DEBIT CARD but in USD and money can be loaded on website.

Purpose of bitcoin debit card is to spend bitcoins for normal use such as fuel/movie ticket/shopping etc.

BITCOIN ATM = INSERT YOUR BANK ATM CARD, SCAN MOBILE WALLET CODE, BUY BITCOINS

AFAIK there is no bitcoin ATM in India but bitcoin debit card is very much there and can be used without any problem (except the ones I mentioned in my previous post above)

.....hope this clears things up!

PS: If anyone want to know how to get a bitcoin debit card, PM me or I can make a thread with info.
30  Local / India / Re: BEWARE of using MOBIKWIK/PAYTM etc to trade BTC on: July 24, 2016, 02:31:01 PM
As a buyer you are most likely not affected by this particular scam method but as seller you can face problems like wallet is locked etc due to fraud.
31  Local / India / BEWARE of using MOBIKWIK/PAYTM etc to trade BTC on: July 24, 2016, 12:54:45 PM
Hey guys, beware of trading on LBC using PayTM/Free Charge and especially MobiKwik. These company have non-existent security features and there are several of these wallet users complaining of hacked accounts/ etc.

And their customer service is pathetic. IDK how they are allowed to operate as a psuedo-bank financial service yet provide zero (I REPEAT BIG ZERO) when it comes to customer service. Mobikwik guys cannot even speak English properly.

Mobikwik does not even need a OTP to send money. Just login on APP with mobile number password and send money. I hope they atleast implement OTP now. Poor really...  Angry

Modus operandi on LBC seems to be
1. Fraudster hacks unsuspecting user's PayTM/Mobikwik account.
2. Fraudster goes to LBC and finds users selling BTC for these APP wallet trades.
3. Places trade and transfers money to seller's wallet app.
4. BTC is released.
This is repeated quickly even 3-4 times a day if these fraudsters can.

In 2 or 3 days, the wallet's actual user finds out the balance is missing and makes a complaint with the wallet app.
Their immediate response is to completely block the all accounts to which money has been sent.

So basically you have sent BTC but now your wallet which received money is stuck as blocked, and there is no way to unblock it (well, you literally have to spend hours for this, send them ID proof/bank statement/ blah blah so it is a complete PIA and still no guarantee that it will be unlocked)

TIPS: If you really have to trade via this, make sure it is from a very reputable user having 100's of trades and to be completely safe, take a bank account statement of the person who sent you money. The bank account statement should show the transactions which added money to their PayTM or other wallet apps
32  Local / Buyer/ Seller Reputations (India) / Re: Indian localbitcoins scammer list on: July 24, 2016, 11:29:46 AM
Thanks for the tip, while I haven't ever traded with Paytm or Mobiwik, I have never been aware of this as a trader. Instead of posting this here, you might want to post it on the Home section of Local board for India.

I just noticed that forum, I will post it there as well.
33  Local / India / Re: Drug Trafficking with Bitcoin in India on: July 24, 2016, 11:16:57 AM
Every business has its share of illegal users apart from the normal legal users like us. For eg, some guys like escrow.ms have already been caught for using bitcoins to steal from credit cards of other countries. (this was in the new earlier this year)

Terrorism financing/ drugs/ etc are nothing new for the police, for years they have been financed by fiat currency by gundas and dadas and even bollywood mobsters and now since bitcoins is picking up, they will continue to use both fiat and bitcoins for all these illegal purposes.

As long as we traders are honest there is nothing to fear.
34  Local / India / Re: Bitcoin Debit Cards in India on: July 23, 2016, 09:27:24 PM
Bitcoin "debit card" is, in the simplest of terms, a mastercard or a visa card in USD/EUR denomications which you can top up via BTC using a service like WageCan or ANX. It works exactly like your ICICI or HDFC bank debit card except that it can be topped up in BTC.

So, YES it is "possible" in India and ACCEPTED in India by any shop which accepts Visa/MasterCard payments.

39  Local / India / Re: Bitcoin Debit Cards in India on: July 23, 2016, 04:29:44 PM
My review of wagecan:

The verification process was easy, it took around 3 days and once it was sent, the card reached me in 10 days, the BTC to USD fees is a bit on the higher end. I am paying around 6% fee on top of the USD/BTC value as WageCan conversion fees. IDK if this can be reduced somehow.

Card works fine in POS such as malls and fuel stations. Always use the option to process the sale with a PIN number.

Also, ATM withdrawal does not seem to work. I am interested in knowing if anyone else has managed to use wagecan or ANX etc debit cards to withdraw from Indian ATMs?
Ive tried in ICICI/HDFC/CITI ATM's and they all show me a message "BALANCE:  "
which is not zero, but has no value - i think maybe the ATM is not able to process USD to INR conversion

Please advice if anyone has used these debit cards to withdraw from any particular ATM.

PS: I find the attitude of some of the people here unnecessary, this is an open board to share information and if you think someone is wasting YOUR time you can just ignore the posts and need not reply to them. There is absolutely no need to give advice such as DIY/google it / etc. You are just spamming the thread and more span will follow in the form of an reply to your "advice" so let us just avoid it altogether.
