21  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm back! on: April 24, 2013, 02:38:22 PM
As an unbiased observer who has not got a dog in this fight, I would like to say that after watching the video, you won me mate, I admire your intestinal fortitude, good onya.

Perhaps quoting the ASX being up some 83 odd points was a bit cheeky considering they've just wiped 2.5 Billion USD off the American stock exchanges today, but you were not to know, these things really DO happen.

Normally I'd be in Melbourne tomorrow, being Anzac Day, we have a little reunion at the Great Western Hotel in Spencer street, this time it's Sydney.

Be that as it may, if you'd ever like the catch up for a feed in maybe little Bourke street or Lygon street Carlton, or wherever ,let me know, it would be my pleasure.

Lest we Forget.

Keith

22  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Petition to Apple: Allow Bitcoin wallets on iPhone on: April 23, 2013, 02:49:20 PM
iPad, iPhone and a Windows 7 Laptop, works for me, never snorted Coke or any other shit ever and with a head like mine, fashion clothes are just a waste of time and money.

Then again, not enough time left to tell you how little I care about your lack of judgement based on whether someone uses an iOS, Android, Qnx or Windows based device.

If how you judge a person is merely based on peripheral devices and labels, then I really feel sorry for you.

Petition signed.
23  Economy / Economics / Re: Who ACTUALLY knows what they're talking about here? on: April 20, 2013, 12:36:06 PM
I doubt that there's anyone on the forum that has ALL the answers, but I think there are enough people here, willing to share their part of the answer to keep me coming back to benefit from their wisdom.

Then again, I do believe the answers is 42, for what it's worth.
24  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Australian tax department discussing Bitcoin tax without consulting CCCB on: April 20, 2013, 11:44:47 AM
If as a business you are prepared to accept a "Bitcoin" (or casino chip) as a form of payment then I think you would have to pay the relevant taxes.

Yes you do. In Australia, the "transaction medium" is priced at market rates.  Think Barter Card.

Real World Example:  I received 5 BTC at ~$48 AUD per BTC ($250).  I sell 3 BTC  at $70AUD/ BTC  not long after.

I declare the full $250 as income and keep the 2 BTC.  I declare the 2 BTC as part of a "cash on hand/ float" asset at the market rate*.
Any losses or profit I make when I convert the 2 BTC to $AUD is then entered as profit or loss.

* I get to choose the rate.  Because it's the wild west (no benchmark pricing) I choose the "best price" for the reporting period.

Really cool if you're receiving BTC as a merchant in return for goods and/or services, but what about the humble PAYG earner?
25  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Australian tax department discussing Bitcoin tax without consulting CCCB on: April 20, 2013, 05:31:56 AM
Thanks for the info, was wondering how long it would be before they wanted to get their dirty little bum scratchers on our investments.

You may just fly a little kite and ask them if there will be a facility to offset any losses against taxable income too.
IE, suppose my investment in BTC at the 30th of June 2013 = $AUD 2000, but due to the massive market valuations my portfolio value = $AUD 1000.

Seems to me if they want the benefit of the gains then they can wear the losses as well, share and share alike.

Wonder if we'll see his smiling face again when he's a millionaire (at least on paper), interesting also to note that BTC was created by an " anonymous hacker".

Quality, not quantity
How about a brief top ten news items, then some indepth discussion to follow.
Can't wait.
28  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is MTGOX down for anyone else again again again.... on: April 18, 2013, 02:03:02 PM
Never once had a problem logging in, ( from Australia) so it may be a bandwidth problem or you need to check your firewall settings.

Seems to me Gox gets a lot of bad press, that could be attributed to user error, rather than failings on the part of Gox, including latency.
29  Other / Off-topic / Re: Help me raise funds of 7 BTC on: April 16, 2013, 01:31:21 PM
Got a bit of advice for you old mate, seeing it's just you and me on this forum, just keep it to yourself but.

Pay your friendly local people smuggler some money, 10k US or AUD will do, get your arse on a leaky boat and make your way to somewhere like Christmas Island, after a few months on a sunny Pacific Island, you'll get a refugee visa and will be welcomed by the Australian Govt. with open arms, they will give you money,a house, a car, access to as many virgins as you can cope with and all the camels you can muster west of Ayers Rock.

You are no doubt aware that Bitcoin actually grow on trees here, particularly in Northern Central Australia, the famed explorers Brown and Brothers first noted their existence on their 2nd expedition in surch of Lassiters fabled BTC plantation, supposedly somewhere near kickatinalong.

Now, here's the best bit, I've got a significant parcel of shares in the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which I would be more than happy to trade you for say, oh, call it an even 7 Bitcoin

So when you get here, call me.

May  I recommend reading "Kill Decision" by Daniel Suarez, you want Drones, you got 'em, then start looking over your shoulder.
31  Other / Off-topic / Re: Boston Marathon Explosions on: April 16, 2013, 06:37:39 AM
Non stop vision vision of the events in Boston on tv all day here in Adelaide, regardless of the cynicism expressed in the above posts, some idiot or collection of idiots has once again seen fit to kill innocent people in order to vent their spleen or further their misbegotten causes.

My sympathy to ALL Americans, my condolences to victims families.
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to deal with haters in positions of authority? on: April 15, 2013, 12:17:55 PM
No point in becoming susceptible  to the negative attitudes of other people.
33  Economy / Economics / Re: = Grand Unified Solution to Lost Coins, Hoarding, Deflation, Speculation = on: April 15, 2013, 12:04:20 PM
Hoarding is not a problem. The word merely means saving. Saving is virtuous, not a problem to be "solved". I'm not interested in what "mainstream" economists take, give or do. If you want what they are selling, then please just stick with dollars or the local currency of your choosing, and leave us bitcoiners alone.

This has nor changed since last time I checked in 2011...
Because serious businessmen spend 1-2 days looking at BTC...
And then they just move on.

There's some that make it happen, there's some that watch it happen and there's some (probably serious business men) that wondered what the heck happened.
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Daily Bitcoin Show! Website up! First Week of Shows Complete! on: April 15, 2013, 11:52:52 AM
No expertise at all in the production of radio shows/podcasts, simply a dedicated listener.

Seems to me that having quality sponsors would be totally within keeping of the spirit of the show, the " value for value" model may work in another place in another time, but lets keep it real, this is Bitcoin.

4 x 30 second spots in a +- 45 minute show would be totally realistic to me.
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Daily Bitcoin Show! Website up! First Week of Shows Complete! on: April 14, 2013, 01:26:44 PM
Had the great good fortune and pleasure to listen to all 5 episodes today.

Simply awesome in production and content, informative, entertaining and right on point, particularly enjoyed the "Andreas M. Antonopoulos" segment and hope he continues to contribute his very incisive comments.

All in all, a great effort and a great show, props to the three of you, loved the intros, not sure if I'm a Geek or a Freak, but it seems the only option is to get in, sit down, shut up and hang on, this going to be wild.
36  Other / Archival / Re: I sold everything at $158/159 this morning on: April 08, 2013, 01:43:08 AM
I sold all my Bitcoin at $120 and set a buy order at $0.03

See you in a year, suckers Wink

Cut and pasted this one to my calendar, just so I can have a really good laugh at least once a year.
This post ranks at the same level as the A&R guy that said the Beatles would never do any good and the HP guy that said that no one really needed or wanted a PC

Bitcoin @ 0.03, keep dreaming you silly sausage.
37  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How did you learn about bitcoins? What's your story? on: April 07, 2013, 04:05:17 PM
Long time listener to Steve Gibson on the TWIT network, so google episode 287 of "Security Now", if there is ever a Bitcoin "Hall of Fame", Steve Gibson and Leo LaPorte would be an automatic inductions as far as I'm concerned.

Steve is THE go to guy in Crypto and Leo Laporte (wisely) provides him the platform.

The Bitcoin community could not ask for two better advocates, unlike Dvorak and Curry on the " No Agenda" podcast, I'm affeared Mr. Dvorak will be condemned to a lifetime diet of Mac and Cheese ( Macaroni and cheap cheddar cheese melted together) whilst the far more passionate and intellectual Mr. Curry will be able to indulge his every gourmet passion and some hookers and blow to top it off.

As for the rest of your questions, too much information, old mate, ( refer to the TNO post)
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you tell people who ask "how much bitcoin do you have?" on: April 07, 2013, 03:18:50 PM
Tell them the same thing you would say if they asked how much cash you have in the bank, "none of your fucking business!"

Could not agree more.
39  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Quit your cryptocrastinating and get on board already! on: April 07, 2013, 03:16:29 PM
Read a book titled " the Richest man in Babylon ( by Richard Clayson), the same lessons still apply and then invest 10% of your earnings in Bitcoin, diligently.
40  Other / Off-topic / Re: Evil plans unveiled. Bitcoin is in dangеr!!! on: April 01, 2013, 12:06:01 AM

If I was the most powerful government in the world, I would build a cluster of ASICs which outnumbers the biggest mining pool, and start mining, and start buying coins until I have 2/3 of all coins in my possession. This should not be too expensive for government which collects taxes worth of $3 trillion each year, right?  And after I have all these coins, I would convert the rest of the world into slave colony, MWAHAHAHA!!!!

Don't you just love megalomania?
