21  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-03-10] Mt. Gox files for bankruptcy in U.S. on: March 10, 2014, 07:10:15 PM
I have said it before and I will say it again....

FUCK Mt Gox

I am actually ELATED that I had such a shitty experience with them right off the bat. They locked my account before I ever put a dime and and tried to make me jump thru fucking rings of fire to open it back up so I said fuck this and NEVER did any business with Gox. Thus far I am pleased with LocalBitcoins, BTC-E and Coinbase but this event does have me shit scared of any funds stored online .

PS Check this out from BTC-E, a message they released after the Gox disaster

(I am still a bit scurred from Gox, but it is very nice to see them put in print that they keep 100% of BTC and FIAT in reserve at all times)

BTC-e Statement regarding MtGox possible insolvency
25.02.14 17:31 from admin

Dear BTC-e.com participants,

We are concerned by MtGox shutdown and would like to assure you that:

1. MtGox losses do not affect account balances or the operation of BTC-e in any way.

2. We confirm the Bitcoin system operation and its exciting prospects, and MtGox bankruptcy has not been caused by any underlying technical problems of Bitcoin. Bitcoin international peer-to-peer network and cryptocurrency are independent of actions of a single market participant. Bitcoin protocol continues to function exactly as it should. The cryptocurrency maintains its stability and the network will continue to develop and exist as long as required by its users.

3. At BTC-e we are constantly monitoring Bitcoin accounts and FIAT reserves. At BTC-e we continue to maintain all clients’ assets in full – both Bitcoin and FIAT.

4. BTC-е has no vulnerabilities during client transactions as we use safe and proven transaction protocols. All transaction issues reported by our clients undergo a thorough check.

The safety of client funds and transactions is of ultimate importance for the company, and this is the reason why we have been an industry leader for the last three years.

1. BTC-е is at its peak of financial strength with the record levels of clients and capital adequacy. The company plans to start publishing financial statements, verified by an external audit, on a regular basis.

2. The highest levels of security are already in place at BTC-e, and the company regularly uses external professional advice to further increase the security of our clients.

3. BTC-e is the only exchange to offer a modern trading platform, MetaTrader 4, to its clients, and many other exciting projects and further upgrades are in the pipeline.

The company plans to soon begin to publish publicly available statements certified by external auditors.
22  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] - CoinStax.com - Precious Metals - Buy *GOLD* & *SILVER* with BTC! on: March 10, 2014, 02:09:37 PM
"The 1.5% Bitcoin processing fee is added because we considered adding other forms of payment (cash, credit card, altcoins, cashier's checks, bank wires, etc.), each of which posts to our account at different speeds and carries its own cost. "

What exactly does that have to do with a bitcoin payment and why is that cost in any way the bitcoin buyer's responsibility?

"A bank wire would post to our account same day, but costs the customer ~$30. Cash or cashier's checks are immediately available in our account, but the customer needs to either mail it or find us in person (and we do not currently have a storefront)."

Everything above is entirely irrelevant to a bitcoin purchase.

"Since we are accepting only bitcoins at the moment" ..... everything else you said is completely irrelevant.

As of now you do not have my business. Address everything above and I would CONSIDER your business to buy gold or silver from IF you offered a smaller minimum purchase.

NO WAY would I trust a first transaction with a company which would take possession of no less than $2400 worth of my BTC on trust to ship.

Wow, dirty cop and a dirty judge.. uhm, shocking.
24  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Edison's Revenge on the Dollar (?) - WHAAAAT???? on: March 08, 2014, 08:55:23 PM
Yeah, I saw that bullshit. I don't get how their weird fucking infomercial would actually generate any revenue, but maybe there are some people who would actually sit thru that long winded load of shit, if they are really dumb... and bored, and misinformed, gullible and looking to give money to some poorly presented weird ass shit, maybe.... or maybe it is just a steaming pile of shit, I personally gravitate towards the latter.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Arthur Nakomoto says Newsweek misquoted him and is "destroying my brother" on: March 08, 2014, 04:41:16 AM
Whether or not it is really him, it is pretty sad that he will never be left alone from this point forward. He needs to go change his name at the courthouse at least. I was thinking something like "charlie Lee"

Charree Ree   ??

sorry
26  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I will go out on a limb and say it. Dorian S Nakamoto is the real Satoshi. on: March 07, 2014, 06:09:44 PM
What organization would benefit? Not governments or banks whose ability to tax or extract transaction fees are directly undermined by Bitcoin. (Claims that bitcoin is a conspiracy created by either of those sources are terribly incoherent.)

just to play devil's advocate here....

Perhaps not an organization, but individuals within an organization could certainly benefit.

IF a member, or members of a government agency (or other agency with certain information) recognized that it was fully inevitable that a certain course of action would play out, for example the fall of the dollar as the world's reserve currency or other major financial event of similar magnitude, such as bail ins... then those people might see the value in having a currency which would look appealing as an alternative to fiat, or might see the huge value in being in on the ground floor and mining at zero difficulty (or 1, whatever it was) then IF that digital currency took off, making themselves fabulously rich.

Just because it doesn't benefit the government doesn't mean that someone (or a small group) within the government or workers for the government couldn't have played a part. Having access to certain technology and information could certainly have played a part in the creation of bitcoin.
27  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Has anyone successfully funded BTC-e with USD? If so how? on: December 01, 2013, 04:00:30 PM
bump

anyone?

There was a big dip there last night and a chance to buy coins at about $200-300 below where gox has been. THose with USD in there could take advantage. Maybe the answer is to just wait out the long delay on a bank transfer (and maybe fees)

anyway, and thoughts?
28  Economy / Service Discussion / Has anyone successfully funded BTC-e with USD? If so how? on: December 01, 2013, 05:41:53 AM
Hey, just looking for some advice. I would like to be able to get some cash into there and take advantage of the lower buy rates for BTC but when I look at their funding options, nothing looks all that appealing.

here are their options:

Wire transfers that may take a while to clear (and who knows if the prices jumps in the meantime and I would have been better buying thru localbitcoins or coinbase)

OKpay - looks like the best option, but how do I fund OKpay? doesn't seem very USD friendly.... maybe I am missing something here. and there are fees.

interkassa- never heard of it, website is not in english

perfect money- more bank transfers and fess, money gram (which rapes you in fees)

egopay- seems like a pain in the ass. still need to fund it thru something else, payza.... seems like a bunch of fees and hassle

OR.... maybe their is some other way to convert to BTC or LTC and then fund with that, but the whole point is that I want to buy BTC at their rates so if I convert somewhere else I don't get that.... too bad that it isn't easier to use btc yet. Oh well, I think the hassle will pay off big time, hence why I bother.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

29  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB - Im looking for 2BTC - Paypal - Gox price on: November 19, 2013, 06:12:40 PM
Awesome. I hope everything works out and I want to sincerely thank this thread for talking me out of buying BTC with PayPal... not that I was all that into it in the first place...
30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You don't have to buy a whole Bitcoin! You can buy partial! on: November 18, 2013, 05:52:22 PM
Good.

People who don't even unterstand the basics of bitcoin should probably not invest in the first place.

A large influx of naive investors, who don't get the concepts behind bitcoin and only buy because "the price is going up", could be very damaging at this stage.

They are going to become panic sellers at the slightest sign of trouble, and we are going to see yet another massive crash.

Growth is good but it should be gradual and organic.

What is bad about that?

Am I the only one hoping for a crash?

Let those morons panic, get their asses kicked and then open up the door for people like me to stockpile. Bring it on.

32  Economy / Economics / Re: What effects the value of bitcoins? on: November 09, 2013, 09:47:20 PM
Greed, economic weakness and luck Smiley

BINGO!

1- People are hearing about how others are making money and want a piece of the action
2- Fiat currencies are a DISASTER

As major economies are falling apart people are looking for a place to put their savings or investments, so Bitcoin, which is up what 3000+% in the last year.... yeah that looks like a decent investment. It is definitely not without risk, but no high yielding investment ever is.
33  Economy / Economics / Re: What are you doing with your bitcoins ? on: November 09, 2013, 02:54:41 PM
Why must it be only one choice?

I have a savings account for my daughter that I will leave for a long time.

but I also have others that I might sell if I need money and I am trying to sell things for btc to get more coin coming in, I will maybe buy some more if I have dispensable funds too.

and like everyone else I am holding most of my coins until it seems like a good time. I won't part with the bulk of my coins until I see how things play out in the US economy. Remember how crazy shit got during the cypress bailout? Imagine how much money would pour into bitcoin if there was a bailout in a major european country.. or .... yikes... a US bailout??  Good god that would be a crazy day/week/month for btc.

No one set answer, it depends on how things play out.

also I may sell a little now just because of the all time high... if there is a big panic dump then I can buy more at a lower rate, if not I sell some coins at a huge profit.

36  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to accept payment in bitcoin on ebay? anyone done this? on: November 09, 2013, 01:01:06 AM
So if I get paid in BTC and mark the item as "payment received" and ship it.....

Does ebay take a fee out of my paypal? I would assume they always get paid, unless I cancel and ship..... hmm.
37  Economy / Trading Discussion / How to accept payment in bitcoin on ebay? anyone done this? on: November 08, 2013, 10:29:26 PM
I completed a listing and the buyer offered to pay me in bitcoin. I would rather that than be paid thru paypal (which I despise)

any advice? I am not a frequent ebay user, maybe there is some trick I am missing.

Do I cancel the order when I get paid and then ship it? or is there a way to still do it thru ebay?
I would imagine that basically takes the escrow out of the equation too right? I'll ship it when I get paid so that isn't a problem for me as long as the buyer trusts me.

Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated, apologies if this has been discussed, I have never had much luck with the search function on here.

BTC-E is way more fun. No problems sending or receiving funds (so far).

The troll-box alone is worth it for entertainment value. lol  Cheesy
This.
The troll-box is awesome  Cheesy

The troll box is a wonderfully sinful pleasure.

The constant panic and hysteria is possibly one of the strangest and unusual things mankind has ever achieved.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you get money out of BTC-E.

I would love to do so but all of their withdrawal methods seem shady or have big fees.

and ps fuck dwolla for shutting down their bitcoin operations.
