21  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Undervolting and underclocking a 7870 Tahiti on: May 02, 2013, 11:47:46 PM
Thank you all for the replies.

After installing a case fan, the temperature only goes to 83C if I run it without flags.
Running with -v -w 256 (or 128) gives me a lower hashrate, but also a lower temperature (79C).
Haven't tweaked other settings yet.
Is the CCC power control as good as undervolting with Afterburner or Trixx?

It only goes to 92C when mining. The idle temperature isn't high at all.

It's a brand new card. Haven't tweaked anything yet.
I have a micro-ATX case with only one case fan, so the air flow isn't the best.
23  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Undervolting and underclocking a 7870 Tahiti on: May 02, 2013, 08:09:58 AM
Hi all,

I've got a new Powercolor 7870 Tahiti. I got around 425 Mhash/s using GUIMiner, but the temperature went up to 92C.
I am thinking maybe I should undervolt and underclock to keep it below 80C.
I have no prior experience in over/underclocking.
Can someone please give me some advice?

Thanks,
Arthur
24  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Using DiabloMiner on slush's pool stratum on: May 01, 2013, 06:16:30 PM
I have been using GUIMiner for a while. I've heard that DiabloMiner is kernel optimized for GCN.
Can someone tell me how to mine on stratum with DiabloMiner?
I've tried:
DiabloMiner-Windows.exe -l http://worker:password@stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333
and I kept getting ERROR: Cannot connect to stratum.bitcoin.cz: Unexpected end of file from server
I have been doing some Googling and still couldn't find the correct command.
Can somebody please help me out?
25  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7850 or 7870? Is the extra cost worth it? on: April 12, 2013, 01:33:41 PM
420/360 mhash is a 17% increase.
7870 is about £180, and 7850 is about £150, which is a 20% increase.
But factoring in other costs, the % difference in price will be lower than that.
26  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 7850 or 7870? Is the extra cost worth it? on: April 12, 2013, 11:34:58 AM
I am thinking of building a new rig for mining, but don't want to spend too much.
I am deciding between a 7850 or 7870. Of course the 7870 is faster, but is the extra cost worth it?
On a side note, it'll be used for gaming as well. Would an i3 3220 CPU be enough? (My other option would be AMD FX 6300, but i3 is slightly cheaper with a cheaper B75 motherboard, with a lower power consumption)

Thanks for your time reading my post. =]

I find bitcoinget unusable for me. It forces everything into a small window in the middle. Sometimes, the information I need is just outside the window and I can't click onto it. Hence, I can't finish the task.

What browser and screen resolution are you using?
Chrome. I have a screen that is supposed to be 1920*1080 set to 1600*900.

Hmm.. that configuration has been tested and should be working. It could be an issue with a specific task. Would you happen to remember which one it was?
I couldn't find that task again.
I tried the website again with some other tasks and found the payout quite good compared to other bitcoin sites.
Thanks. =]

For most other sites, I find mining with my laptop more profitable LOL
31  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the main reason for the recent price raises? on: March 28, 2013, 07:16:40 AM
Thus as I said, only the government can give paper money its value, unless they are gold or silver.

Bitcon is just another fiat. I know, I know it isn't debased as much. Irrelevant! The value of money is based on confidence. The government can change the confidence at any time. So the government can cause inflation or deflation in Bitcon at any time that they wish.

So all this BS about NO INFLATION is just utter nonsense.
It's not only the Americans that are using it. Unless all governments act together against Bitcoins, there shouldn't be too much of an effect.

I created an account on btc-e.com and just park my namecoins there.
Thanks. The fees seem more reasonable for btc-e.com

I clicked on namecoind.exe, a console pops up. A few seconds later, the console just disappeared and nothing happened....

Vircurex seems to charge a huge amount on withdrawal....
My whole Bitcoin wallet consists of 0.0002 BTC....

35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Namecoin wallet? on: March 27, 2013, 03:59:19 PM
I am mining in Slush's pool, and read that I can get "free" Namecoins if I can provide an address.
After doing some Googling, there are posts recommending registering an account on Crypto X Change, but the site has been closed down long ago.
The default Namecoin client doesn't seem to be very user friendly.
Can anyone advice me on the best way to get started with Namecoin?
36  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: rpcminer-cuda is slower than default OpenCL miner in guiminer on: March 26, 2013, 11:51:53 PM
Don't use nvidia graphics cards full stop you'll waste more money in electricity that you mine.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
I am considering getting a new PC for mining, but I am not sure if it will still be a good investment. (Since now everyone is doing it, the mining would be more competitive and harder.)
It's also a pain trying to get a decent PC in the UK. I don't trust online companies enough to buy a PC and have it delivered. And I simply can't find decent enough PCs in chain computer shops (e.g. PC world).
If I were to get a new PC with Ati card, I am considering this one: http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/-b-NEW-b-Raider-AMD-X6-6300-94p1640.htm

For now, I can't just change the graphics card in my laptop. My bills are included in the rent, and my laptop keeps the room warm in this cold weather. LOL
37  Other / Beginners & Help / rpcminer-cuda is slower than default OpenCL miner in guiminer on: March 26, 2013, 09:51:34 PM
I've been using the default OpenCL miner in guiminer, and it went up to 26-27 Mhash/s
I've now read about rpcminer-cuda and I am using that instead, but it only gets to 24.6Mhas/s
Though I temperatures are lower using rpcminer-cuda compared to the default OpenCL miner
Is this usual? Should I keep on using rpcminer-cuda? Or switch back to the default miner?

I am new to Bitcoin. Trying to mine with my laptop. =P (My bills are included in rent, plus it helps warm my room in the cold weather.)
I wish I knew about this earlier (like everyone else lol).
I don't really looking to earn money. It's more about seeing numbers go up. If you play any MMO or loot based dungeon crawlers, you know what I mean.
