21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Gridcoin (GRC) - first coin utilizing BOINC - Official Thread on: April 08, 2014, 04:34:54 PM
I have another miner going at 1Mh for 8 hours and have yet to find a block, seems odd since my other machine has been finding blocks.

Thoughts?

Luck is a big factor and 8 hours is definitely normal for 1mh.
Also I've seen the diff today as high as 12 so that's one of the reasons.

Have 3 of these suckers running just fine, another one is saying boinc utlization 0 but cpu is 100%

Any tips?

Hi Chiznitz,

try to run cmd as admininistrator, type "lodctr /r" without quotes and hit enter, then restart your Gridcoin client.

This helped me when I had the same issue.

Hi all,

There seems to be a new article about Gridcoin on this site:

http://habrahabr.ru/post/218141/

I don't understand it, however after using google translator it seems that they like Gridcoin Smiley
Does anybody know the site? Is it good/big? I've checked their twitter and they have like 65k followers.

Andrew.

Hi, Andrew! This site is biggest collective blogging site of IT subject at .ru zone (means for all russian speaking IT specialist and users). There is even term "Habraeffect" which describes popularity boost of theme described in any topic at habrahabr.ru. But. In comments people actually dislike GRC, becouse of not correctly working official site of gridcoin and security issues of Gridcoin. There is link to this post (RU) at bitckointalk with critics in adress of GRC. I had polemics with that user here (RU). In my opinion it's not best idea to talk about GRC while there still so much problems for Rob to fix. Major problem is CPU mining and problems with gridcoin.us site.

Hi Zulzedd,

Ok, that's great. I had no idea it's that big Smiley Just saw traffic going to that site, it's huge.

I understand the problems people have...please be patient, it's just a temporary situation. There are actually great news.
Rob has been working extremely hard to get the CPU mining up and running as soon as possible, as of yesterday it's already in testnet and works fine so far. If all goes well I'm sure it'll be live very, very soon.
Then everything else will follow.

Hi everyone,

The reason GRC is still frozen on Poloniex is that there is a shortage of GRC in the wallet. This is because someone deposited a bunch of GRC on the wrong fork, sold it, and withdrew. They took care to avoid detection, depositing in small amounts, selling in bursts over a period of time, and converting the profits to three different coins before withdrawing in small amounts.

I was hoping to get the developer's input on this, and possibly an offer of assistance, but he has been unresponsive for days, and this needs to be dealt with. I'm going to need to roll back some of the trades the person made. Not all, but a few. I have a special rainy day fund that will just about cover the cost of this. The whole thing should be resolved soon, and GRC will resume, fully solvent.

Hi busoni,

Thanks for being patient. Rob has been notified regarding the bouncing e-mails.

Can anyone give me an idea of the BTC/scrypt MH-equivalent when mining Gridcoin?  If profit is even close to mining other coins, I would love for my GPUs to be doing something to help humanity in addition to making my house uncomfortably warm.
I'll be frank.
At it's current all time low of 0.000019, i find it's tripple the proifitability than ltc.
Seriously.

edit:
FYI Guys, i've created 5 super seed nodes for the gridcoin payment network and created a guide at the same time.

Check the thread out Smiley https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/9199-gridcoin-supernodes/

Hi,

I'm having the same numbers 3-4 times profitability of Litecoin. When the price was at 0.0001 the profitability must've been around 20x of Litecoin...we'll get back to that price soon enough Wink

Thanks for setting up the nodes! Great job!

Gotcha, i'll take more time over my posts and try to not come off as much of a douche.
Yeah, i guess we've surpassed the window of opportunity for rolling back the network, no worries :/

Hi Customminer,

I really appreciate you're not taking it personally, thanks.

At the end we all want the same thing and we need to work together. Thanks for geting involved!

Unfortunately for now it is, if it wasn't for the recent hacking incidents we would have an improved linux wallet, but this is a very complex project so for now this is
what we have.

If you have an existing peers.dat file delete it, i had same issues on my rigs they would not sync unless the peers.dat file was deleted.

Oh thats been done about 20x also Wink

I truly think its because this is a windows coin and the linux source is so neglected. The funky hoops you need to jump to even compile it says a ton.

doesn't he need to get in touch with Rob to get the keys he added to keep unauthorized builds off the network?
Hi,

yes, that's correct.
I sent him a PM and e-mail with Robs contacts.

Have again problems with my wallet synchronize. Maybe i shall redownload and start again.

Also try to use only this addnode in your gridcoin.conf

addnode=www.pgp.mx

Tbh, the gridcoin really needs a fork to before the hacking, or a relaunch as it shouldn't have been launched in an alpha state.

Sorry to say but your comments are like you are some kind of god who knows every right answer for everything. We should have forked but I think it's a bit too late already. I get this feeling that you are only thinking your own good and not others.
By any chance would you be one of the people who benefitted from the 5mil+ GRC that were hacked out of the cryptocurrency itself? Making such accusations of grandeurism you appear to be opposing something that would hurt you more than everyone here.

But if you generally have something against my constant asking questions/suggesting features/getting involved with the community, i'm sorry but i don't feel like sitting back and reaping the rewards off the backs of others, i'd rather get involved and help develop this crypto.

Lets face it, there's only been like.. 2btc/day traded MAX on c-cex. The exchange has only had the wallet up for trade the last like 3 days, there was totally a window to reverse the issue.

Hi,

it's not even 3 million!

Well, it's great that you get involved, the reddit page for example is a nice job.
However, you write your posts in a more direct manner and sometimes it looks like you didn't read a whole post before reacting to it..so don't be surprised when someone reacts like that.

As I stated on the other forum a rollback of 6-7k blocks would only do more harm and from what I read Rob isn't a fan of that solution either.
Relaunch is a plain nonsense.

I still can't get any connections, just a heads up.

Hi,

have you tried the addnode=www.pgp.mx ?

There seems to be an imminent hard fork in the development of gridcoin the developers are talking about making cpu mining also calculate a cpu only algorithm diverting users processors away from boinc Sad

You might want to get your facts straight and read a little before you start criticising every step of the development process.

Don't get me wrong a constructive critic is welcome, but that's not what you're doing most of the time, imho.

Andrew.

Sorry man, i just panic easily.

How about a good idea from me for a change?

How about somone takes the open source code from this http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/02/28/htc-posts-full-source-code-for-power-to-give-app-and-associated-boinc-server/ and makes an android cpu miner with a built in wallet?

This would instantly make GRC one of the main cryptocurrencies out there.

I understand you probably were a bit on edge around the time of the exchange hack. I wouldn't be calm too.

The android thing looks like an awesome idea! That would be really cool!

Hi guys!

Yep, the drop in RACs is due to the disabled CPU mining. There are over 2.1k CPU BOINC hosts.
However it's just temporary and we will be back to our previous levels when it's up again.

Actually as the number of members of team Gridcoin keeps growing I'm sure we will be > 10 million RACs when it's live.

Grc is again working on Poloniex for a couple of days! Enjoy.

Also, new site where Gridcoin is listed:
http://moola.io/

It's simmilar to coinmarketcap, shows marketcaps of cryptos and crypto stocks.
They can be nicely sorted by marketcap or by % change wich I think is a good feature.

FYI, I'm a huge fan of GRD coin.  It is already in our list, no poll necessary.  Can you get one of the dev's to contact me so we can coordinate a launch date with me?

Thanks. It's great to hear that!

I've sent message to the lead developer, I'm sure he'll contact you.
