21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Hot ICOs of October with low market caps on: October 07, 2017, 07:54:09 PM
Airtoken seems like a company that is already successful just launching a vague ICO to raise more money. The cap is low so maybe investors will see profits anyway, but like jlp said it seems be a lot of marketing without a real foundation for a product/use of the coin.

And yes, what is the point of Ambrosus. It sounds good until you actually start thinking about why it would ever need blockchain...then it makes no sense.  Huh
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which card is best bang for the buck to mine scrypt based coins? on: December 04, 2013, 10:42:32 PM
Anyone who is using radeon 7950 or R9 280X for mining scrypt based coins please let me know how much hash power you are getting.

2X 7950s getting +/- 1.35Mh/s.

Could push them a bit more (and have done so) if I wanted but prefer longer lifespan to higher hashrate. The max achieved per card is about 720Mh/s but not really sure they work efficiently at that high of speed. Performance/efficiency is just right at 650-680Mh/s. In my humble opinion and in my personal experience, maximum achievable hashrate isn't the only thing to consider in a card.

7950s are good cards, a few months ago they were arguably the best choice to consider for scrypt-mining. Now though, they've jumped up in cost and are becoming more and more difficult to find...the 280 or 280x would probably be a better choice currently....though I don't own one yet so this is speculation. From what I know of them, you basically get a newer/improved 7970 for just a little bit more cost (if any) over a 7950 (feel free to correct this claim if it's inaccurate) and around $100 less than a 7970.

So its best to get a R9 280X in the current situation?

Perhaps. Hell, I don't know...just what I would consider doing if buying another card today. Well...that is, if you can find one.

Don't listen to me though...as stated previously, I don't own an R9 card.

You asked for hashrate of 7950s so I offered my own experience...the rest is only personal opinion based on speculation. Honestly, what's best is to do your own research before making any purchasing decision and don't ever buy anything just because some numskull in a troll-flooded forum told you to.  Wink

When Bitcoin hits $100,000....just my guess.

May have to give it another week or two.  Wink

Happy I found this thread and got back on track.  Smiley

Disappointed to lose (what I thought was) 6000HBN. Undecided

There ya go Doom!

Oh by the way everyone I wouldn't bother sending these to cryptys anytime soon. I think they having many deposits issues, even despite the fork last night. I'll let everyone know when it is good again.

Bah...I wrote that last post too late. Sorry, I hoped to catch you before you had a chance to send them.

Thank you very much for the coins sent....despite the previous post, it is much appreciated. Even if they do eventually find their way into some other deserving soul's wallet, they will have been put to good use  Wink

ya 6k was difficult to get right when it was released!  Anyway I'll send you some in a while. My wallet is getting dry! :-)

Keep what you have in your wallet or give it to someone else, don't worry to send me anything at all...I'm not sweating it.

Heck...I usually just give most of my coins to other folks anyway. You know...Karma and all that sort of thing

28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STAR COIN [STR] - The coin with bonus STAR blocks on: August 23, 2013, 12:34:26 AM
Just checked my machine for the first time since yesterday morning and it looks like it maybe stopped working around 1-1:30pmEST yesterday (8/21/13). Also, difficulty is @ 29.9m as others reported.

Guess it's time to move this machine to another coin...seems there's always some sort of problem with these PoS (Piece of Shit?) coins.

I'm glad that any mining I do is mostly just for fun.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NVC: The biggest ongoing scam in cryptocoin history on: August 07, 2013, 06:27:32 AM
People should educate themselves on what they are investing in before they invest/purchase. That includes my coins that I sell as well. Do your due diligence people.  Smiley

+1

The simple fact of the matter is that people should do the footwork before investing their money/time/efforts. Good advice for all things in life, whether it be investing in a currency, buying a new car, taking a new job or choosing a spouse.

All the information is available for every one of these (so-called) alt-coins. Anyone, whether crypto-vet or crypto-newbie, can find plenty of information to make as sound decisions as possible on any coin before deciding to invest their money/time/efforts. As with anything in life, when people make ignorant, in-the-moment choices based on what's "Hot"....they often end up getting burned. These are the lessons we all must learn, one way or another!

No one can blame the game for their losses when they don't bother taking the time to learn how to play.  Wink
30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [CENT] Pennies launched on: August 07, 2013, 05:43:23 AM
are people managing to gpu mine this ?

EDIT: never mind i have done it

Care to share your method of GPU mining?

So far, I've invested the main portion of my time in CPU mining since it gives my processor something to keep it busy on while the GPUs are doing all the heavy work...of course I wouldn't complain at all if difficulty dropped back down to .003 like it was when I started (lots of fun to see coins created w/ only tiny effort). Soon though, no Pennies at all will be coming in via my i5.

I tried cgminer out earlier today and produced a ton of garbage...really fast. I admit that no worthy effort on my part has been invested into any kind of serious attempt at GPU mining.

I used the Yac GPU miner and was able to mine, but my 7950 is the same speed as my Core-i7 4Ghz Sandy Bridge, so not sure how worth GPU is on it.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info.

Saving mine for a rainy day...just like a RL Piggy-Bank. No intention of selling a single one any time soon.

A tad bit interested in seeing how much people might pay for them though...just for the sake of curiosity.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: <ANN> HoboNickels HBN Pos(superstake) zero premine .. live now! on: August 05, 2013, 12:43:22 AM
How much longer until client update is available?
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: <ANN> HoboNickels HBN Pos(superstake) zero premine .. live now! on: August 03, 2013, 10:28:26 AM
My debug file says something about CPU miner started for PoS and soon afterwards another block is found and then the error begins. Do I really need to re-download the blockchain? What's the thing about PoS starting?

I'm at a loss here....

EDIT:

OK...re-downloaded blockchain and still getting the error. Anyone know what's the deal with this?

Basically you get interest for staking your coins up to mine a block.  2% every 10 days.  Since this is the 10th day from the coins launch this is likely why you are seeing the POS and checkpoint notification.  We will probably get a client update soon enough which will fix the checkpoint error.

So then...should I just ignore the error and continue mining? Apologies for my ignorance here, but I've never experienced this issue before with any coin client.

"Warning: Checkpoint too old. Re-download the blockchain. If error persists please contact the development team."

What is this?
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptsy down again? on: July 23, 2013, 10:57:11 PM
I'm fine with Cryptsy as long as my assets are secure, not as with vircurex. From technical point of view I'm sure it's not trivial, and this exchange is rather new. Take your time.

+1

People get so butthurt.

Seeing as how there's no other exchange for that many alt-coins (except Coins-e, which has no volume at all), you can either keep your mouth shut and deal with the issues that pop up once in a while with Cryptsy, or you can get the fk out and sell your coins elsewhere.

Everyone keeps throwing a shit whenever Cryptsy gets DDoS'd, etc., but then they all go back an hour later and dump their altcoins there.

If you hate Cryptsy so much, go make your own goddamn exchange and stop whining like little fucking bitches.

Good day.

Lol...hopefully this message isn't approved by BigVern and the crew.

Of course it's easy to be shitty to customers when competition is low and they have very few options. However, crypto is really skyrocketing (I can't believe it honestly)...the amount of people participating now is incredible compared to just a few short months ago. Won't be long before the competition really heats up over where people choose to do their exchanges.

In another 3-6 months we'll probably see a dozen or more decent exchanges pop up. I don't think it would behoove any exchange owner to get cocky toward customers at this point in time.
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptsy down again? on: July 23, 2013, 10:45:53 PM
Yes Cryptsy is currently being DDOS'd were working with our DDOS protection folks to solve the issue hopefully their will be some resolution soon.

Just a suggestion to think about:

Cryptsy's been DoS to death the past few days, making it a real PITA to do any type of business there.

You're telling us that you're working with your "DDoS protection folks" to resolve this issue?! Perhaps the best resolution would be to hire some new "DDoS protection folks". Looks like the folks you're using now are cashing the checks and then going home for the day.

If their sole job is to protect the site from DDoS....well...clearly they aren't holding up their end of the bargain.

Finally found a block!

First one since the 9th...before everything got crazy.

Got it with hp3 on an i5 machine.

I've been trying to get a build set up on DO, but I'm a complete noob with Linux and keep running into errors along the way. So....I've now installed Ubuntu in a virtual machine and trying to figure it out before wasting any more $$ trying to learn on VPS.

Sure wish this build was available on the 7th when I first started Prime. Of course, I also wish I had taken the time to learn Linux way before block rewards dropped to 12. Block rewards of 20 sure were nice while they lasted.

Thanks much for all of your work on this.

Ups, check private message :p

Thanks for the (quite expensive) offer.

However, I'm thinking it would be much greater benefit for me if I figure this one out on my own. The whole..."give a man a fish..." thing, ya know.  Wink
