21  Economy / Collectibles / Re: I'm surprised this hobby and genre of crypto collectibles isn't more popular on: June 11, 2024, 03:46:07 PM
For a while now, my gut has told me one day some massively, large influencer,/celebrity, or politician or possible public figure will show an interest in these coins by talking about them publicly, and they will become instantly one of the most hottest physical collectibles on the planet. I’ve always wished they’d make a movie like the Italian Job, but instead of them stealing gold bars,  it’s a briefcase full of Lealana coins.

How about Kim Kardashian?  I remember when she posted this.  I texted Kialara who hadn't seen it yet.  We were both pretty taken back, as she had over 100M followers at the time.  I despise her and her family, but no denying she one of the worlds most famous people.  Or how about Apple Co-founder, or former US president "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" (he did lol).

When Kim posted that, I don't think most had any idea how to find out what it was /where to find it.  However articles were written about it, for example (https://cointelegraph.com/news/kim-kardashian-west-raises-stakes-with-bitcoin-in-charity-poker-night-out).

Some people figured it out and every Kialara on ebay sold right away.  I happened to have a duplicate bar and it sold for 3 x normal price and immediately. I'm not sure if Max/Kialara had anything available on his website at the time, I will have to ask him. Definitely curious how sales went around that time if so.

Matthew Roszak gifts funded Kialara’s to other prominent individuals (US President Bill Clinton and Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak

There was a guy here selassie soldier? who is planning on opening one in FLorida someday.

I have even donated some of my CypherHodl items just for the museum, including a Smart Contract Timelock Clock redeemable in the year 2100  Cheesy

Also, with the fallout of Skamkey I have seen OG's selling their Bitbills and Cas coins.

I think that is a big factor in people making any decisions from getting into our hobby...especially with the high end loaded items.

yes that is g moses (as he goes by in several other channels such as telegram) - he stole my idea lol actually we kinda both came up with the idea around the same time.

George is like my brother - very good guy. and man you give donations of items? make the sucker pay, he can afford it lol

his account was locked here and he has been unsuccessful in getting the admins to unlock it and he has refused to make a new forum account as far as I know.

Moses is my boy.  He found me on Instagram  "PhysicalCryptocurrency", was brand new to collectibles and I remember spending quite some time teaching him the space.  Which lead him here.

As for everything else in this crazy thread that kind of reminds me of the old days, I will say I think a good amount of you guys are off base.  I'm not sure if I'm a lying leviathan spirit, which I kinda hope I am as I think that's hilarious.  I also don't believe in "god", so I guess I'm going to hell where theres a red guy with horns and what not.  Bible versus, that's a new one.

New funded collectibles are becoming and should be a thing of the past.  This isn't hate, or misinformation or anything like that, it's just how it is and should be, quite frankly.  Anyone can say or think whatever they want, but I know this space as well as anyone (sans MinerJones and Tweetious).  Most new makers just don't know what they are doing or how to appeal to the general collective.  I would say for any newer makers, take a page out of Alpen Coins book.  Despite being funded, which I know even he is on the fence about doing, he's the perfect example of how to become a new coin maker whos appeals to the masses, and does things right. I hold Frank in very high regard as his execution and continued progress has been great.

Old funded stuff like Casascius and BTCC will always remain popular/desired/etc

I'll give you 0.002 lol

Saw you post the other day for first time in ages I feel like. I like see old forum members I liked from the good ole days. Didn’t you do a little coding on the Monero chain? I remember you saying it wasn’t a lot of stuff or something like that. but still really cool, what I’m getting at is did you get any of these? Cuz I’ll trade ya for it   Cheesy

Sold two pieces privately to two very close buddies, at cost.  They weren’t cheap but the guy who has them I don’t believe really knew what he had. I paid what he asked, can’t ask for much more than that.  (The two who own them will never sell the, for those who might ask. I can say that much about it.

Have had some decent offers, still mulling it over.

Do your friends also have the black BitFlyers?
Or one of the other colors?
Be awesome to see a full set of these in person.

I had a black, blue, & green trio. I will post photos tomorrow. Bed time for me shortly,

This was a photo a forum member posted, which you can find via a link in my main thread.

impressive, the bitflyer file brings back good memories for me.
I remember you auctioned 2 pieces about 2 years ago.
Good luck with the sale and the buyer will take home a great piece of bitcoin history.
greetings.

25  Economy / Collectibles / Re: I'm surprised this hobby and genre of crypto collectibles isn't more popular on: June 10, 2024, 02:49:18 AM
I’ll start with I owe you a phone call! Lol. I’ll call ya manana if you’re gunna be around ?

With all of the coin collectors out there and crypto stackers I am very surprised that this space isn't shown more interest by these groups as well as the general public. Now this could be for a variety of reasons:

1. The general public just doesn't really know about crypto collectibles or hologrammed coins/bars etc. (i'm leaning more towards this).

2. People don't want to get scammed due to tricksters or rug pulls from shady makers copying the private keys in creation (definitely more relevant).

3. We are still very early and this space is still maturing & growing.

4. There could be other places online that people are publicly collecting & showing their coins/ products (less likely).

5. There is a lack of interest because collectibles are already a very niche space to begin with.

6. What am I missing?

Now there are some recent developments that I definitely won't downplay that are incredible so lets look at those bullet points

  • Stacks Bowers & Heritage Auctions
  • PCGS & ICG Grading crypto coins regularly - NGC with the one off Otto collection

Am I missing anything here above?

I am also curious where there might be other congregations and groups of collectors in this space outside of Btalk

1. Instagram
2. Redditt
3. Facebook
4. Other Forums

Can you guys list any specific groups where there are crypto collectible enthusiasts or other lesser known populations of folks into this hobby? ....

Most “bitcoiners” don’t like the idea of funded collectibles, see the massive scam thread above for why, as you pointed out.. I posted a 1k Gold Cas on r/Bitcoin like 4-5 years back for someone selling one, just to help spread the word, and got downvoted in to oblivion and even “flagged” as suspicious or some shit lol.which I think only Mods can do and funny thing is the head mod for r/bitcoin is Theymos (tho of course it wasn’t his doing, but just funny as theymos knows this space well). Everyone was saying we are fucking up what “they’ve worked so hard to build” in btc, self custody etc etc. I ended up just deleting it a few hours after posting it, it got so bad lol. BUT, those days seem to have passed. Half of the Reddit posts I see now on there seem to think it’s okay to store coins on exchanges like Coinbase , which is a “trustworthy” exchange. Saw this recently, not a word about it being a big fat scam and not tons of hate, like it once would have gotten - https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/s/10HRRT4rGx

I and LesbianCow are the esteemed mods of r/physicalBitcoin ..we moderate a whopping 20 members maybe once a year (just now remembering we even set this up a few years back lol).

Twitter / X..whatever Elon is calling that zoo these days has a strong collectibles /art “community”. Many projects are announced there that never see the light of day here. It’s a great place to find new stuff and old.

Instagram is a decent place for finding/advertising, as you know. Ive had quite a few collectors find my “physicalcryptocurrency” page (now defunct since facebook won’t help me recover the account) and DM me questions, who ended up becoming forum members..like that Tread93 mofo Wink .  A few coin makers like Alpen coin came from Insta as well.

I don’t have a twatter account and keep my facebook inactive, but as pointed out, def groups on facebook. I’ve found some old unknown projects there as well. Problem is many peoples fbook accounts would doxx them and aren’t interested in doing so.

YouTube IF you make videos, as “Bitcoin forum” “bitcointalk” “btalk” “btctalk” etc are almost immediately deleted if written in any comment section. Love Google. They allow for scams to pay them to advertise like crazy, let bots run wild on there with fake scam conversations..but heaven forbid you mention this forum. I still have no fckn clue why.

Shout out to the bitcoinTalkShow, who I believe is at least partially ran/organized by this forums admin Cyrus, who’s a frequent face seen around these parts. The shows second to last episode featured our little hobby here, which is awesome (@cyrus hoping to see the show continue!!) https://youtu.be/y7YxgElroyU?si=x0z3sZdIDg6Re2mY

We had a Discord group for all collectors interested in the hobby but I believe it got crowded with scammers and was shut down. Someone needs to re-establish the channel, which was the plan I believe.

Pretty sure there’s an AOL chat room for collectors.. “Anthony/Canada/50 seeking to chat with bitcoin collectors“ 😬
26  Economy / Collectibles / WTS - BitFlyer custom Satori / Pre-Fork Satori - 2 chip set on: June 09, 2024, 10:05:32 PM
As stated in title, taking offers on this extremely rare black BitFlyer Satori .001BTC chip as well as a Pre-fork .001BTC  Satori, in this 2 chip “set”.  (DMs asking “how much” will be ignored most likely. I’m not sure yet, hence “taking offers”)

I was lucky enough to snag this custom Satori BitFlyer chip 5-6 years ago. Purchased from a seller out of Asia (I’m in the U.S.).

These are next to impossible to find /obtain.. and believe there’s been just a handful that have found their way to this forum (a couple of BitFlyers, as well as one MissBitcoin Japan..that is known/public). Satori Co made 4 custom chip “sets”..BitFlyer (exchange), MissBitcoin Japan (I believe a Japanese “influencer”), OmiseGo (an alt coin), and Zaif (exchange.. though there’s yet to be one legitimate photo of one of these to surface to my knowledge. All known photos seem to be digital mock up’s).  There’s also some “custom one-off’s” that were made for the physical Satori shop, which were on display as examples of what could be ordered (like we almost made for this forum, right before Satori closed shop  Cry  )..I do believe. I even found one made for a wedding (interestingly post-satori closing shop).

More info on them (not surprisingly thx to MinerJones)- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5413165.0

I want to say there’s been two sales of BitFlyers here, this being one of them (looking for the other)  - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5415704.0

Apologies, I can’t take photos worth a damn, I did my best ..

27  Economy / Economics / Re: Things to avoid when you earn a lot or become rich on: June 08, 2024, 09:18:50 PM
I remember shopping with my father once when I was younger.  We were shopping at Target (kind of like Walmart for those unfamiliar).  I remember running in to a man who had a handful of coupons.  He was a friend of my fathers and they had a nice chat and he went on his way.  I'll never forget my father saying "that is the richest man in our state, and even he clips coupons"  "those who get rich stay rich by making careful money and investing decisions".  He couldn't have been more right.
28  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin gradually turning away from its purpose? on: June 08, 2024, 09:16:24 PM
I fell in love with bitcoin when I discovered it sometime around 2013-2014.  I've been a long time financial advisor, one who's been around long enough to know how corrupt big banks are, and that is what really turned me on to bitcoin.  I am still of the mind that bitcoin should be used as a currency and that it's appeal as a currency is still something making it popular.

I know a lot of people don't agree with me any more on this, but this is just how I feel, and have always felt.
29  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's Belmont Stakes Day!🏇 Who do YOU think will win? on: June 08, 2024, 09:14:12 PM
I really wish that horse racing would go the way of dog racing here in the United States.  As an animal lover I'm highly against betting of this nature.  It really kind of amazes me how many people are willing to sort of just look the other way with how badly many horses are injured during these kind of races.  Let alone all the shit they are pumping in to them, like steroids and what not.  I just wish more people cared about animals like they should be cared aobut.

Damn that was a tough game for the Mavs to open up the championship.  I had a few bucks on them, despite feeling that the Celtics probably had the upper hand in game 1, especially being that they were at home, which always has a nice advantage.  I personally feel like this series is going to go the distance, and likely to end up at either 6 or 7 games, or at leas that is what I am hoping for.  Really looking forward to the game tomorrow.

@ChiBitCTy. Wait for Netflix Sports hehehe. What might be on their roadmap is if Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson is a very successful and a very profitable event, I speculate they might open their platform for most of the major leagues in America and Europe. Apple had this on their roadmap for their tv product that they have cancelled.

It might also be a very good time to start practice on mock drafts on Yahoofantasy? I have been reading articles on top 10s in every offensive positions heheheh. I am still shaking my head for choosing massage Watson for my qb1 on our last draft.

PFF Quarterback Rankings: All 32 starters ahead of the 2024 NFL season

C.J. Stroud cracks the top 10: His yards, touchdowns and big-time throw numbers all placed in the top half of the league, and he had some clutch moments and drives that were well beyond his years.

Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence are on the cusp of elite: From Week 8 on, Love earned an elite 90.4 passing grade with 27 big-time throws and just 10 turnover-worthy plays. Meanwhile, Lawrence ranked in the top five in big-time throws (33) but struggled with turnover-worthy plays

I've seen a lot of these lists now that we are nearing the 2024 season.  I just hope to find Caleb Williams somewhere decently high this same time next year!

If Netflix is promoting it, does that mean that Netflix subscribers will get to watch it for free? I doubt it but that would be sweet.

I'm pretty sure anyone who has Netflix is going to be able to watch the fight.  I don't see why not.  It's already an "expensive" stand alone television service.  If there is an extra charge, this would be the first time I belive that Netflix has a stand alone event that costs extra money.  I sure as hell hope not!
32  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it still possible to retire early? on: June 07, 2024, 04:42:41 AM
Retirement is what I deal with on a daily basis.  Many advisors suggest you try and save around 15% of your current income (of course it all depends on your current age).  Also, the goal should be to try and replace roughly 70-90% of your current annual salary.  If you're towards the end of your career, that is, so that you may continue to live the same current level of lifestyle.

IF ANY of you actually give a shit about this topic, and truly what to better your financial situations, here's a fantastic link with some really good helpful financial tools.  TRUST ME when I say this is worth anyone's time!  Number 1, do you run a monthly budget at least once a year? If not, you NEED to be ( it's the first calculator on the page)- https://www.empower.com/learning_center/calculators/index.shtml#/
33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you pay for car repairs with Bitcoin? Why not :) on: June 07, 2024, 04:37:44 AM
This is great to see. I love whenever someone whom owns a business on here comes forward ands shows how they are starting to accept bitcoin as payment.  I was able to help /convince my dog groomer to do the same thing.  It's so much easier I feel like than a lot of them ( business owners) ever realized.  I am all for using bitcoin as a means of payment, using it for it's initial / traditional reason.  Keep up the good work OP!
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't advice anyone to invest on Bitcoin if he doesn't have Alt. income on: June 07, 2024, 04:32:21 AM
I mean no one should be investing in heavily speculative and volatile assets/investments/commodities unless they have the money to do so.  Everyone should be trying to invest in their future, but for the vast majority of those people, doing so means doing so responsibly until one builds up enough assets that sets them on track for retirement but has additional money they could be investing, then investing in alternative assets such as bitcoin could make sense.
35  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is the role of home/away matches? on: June 07, 2024, 04:27:12 AM
This being the main factor in deciding a match insane.  I don't think anyone with a properly functioning brain would really thing this way.  I mean there's no question that it's a large deciding factor when it comes to picking the outcome of a game, and sometimes can be the "deciding factor" but that doesn't make it the largest factor.

I have a feeling that if your buddy thinks this, he's not winning that many games huh? lol
36  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: June 07, 2024, 04:22:32 AM
Does this service have anything else, like TV channel wise..possibly a way to get rid of YT TV for me?

Its mainly grouped by leagues (NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, NCAA, MMA, MLS, UEFA), and each one has a separate fee.

Apparently it also does have some TV network channels: 8 different ESPNs, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, MSNBC, USA, CW, PBS, TNT, TBS, and a few others I'm not familiar with. They seem to come with the purchase of a sports package.

I actually just found all this out right now, LOL. I had no idea I had access to all these TV channels! I tend to waste a lot of time on social media, Wikipedia, Netflix, and then doomscrolling through Crypto Twitter, so don't have much time for TV, lol.

I think MM news causes a pacifying type of groupthink. Its like designed to be placating and divisive at the same time, while subconsciously convincing people that being a cog is good. I find life more enjoyable after removing the political rancor from my brain. Not that's what TV is all about necessarily.

Too bad it doesn't also have an HBO option. I'd like to watch the last season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

That's pretty cool, I appreciate you sharing that info.  I am trying to think of some way to get rid of my YouTube TV.  It's damn near $90 a month and I really just have a basic package.  I feel like when I first signed up just maybe 3 years ago, it was something like $60.  No surprise coming google.

Man I lost HBO when I moved recently.  Even though it was really not that far away, my internet speed dropped big time so had to get something else and lost HBO.  I had watched all but maybe 4-5 episodes of final curb.  I'm just being cheap right now and will prob sign up for HBO stand alone soon.

Would I be mistaken to predict that the 49ers will win a superbowl before 2027?

They've got as good a chance as any team.
37  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Physical Bitcoins for Comics Trades ? on: June 05, 2024, 05:22:07 PM
Chibit believe it or not you are not alone lol.  I've got them too.  I have a copy of new mutants #98 you might be interested in.  It's the very first appearance of deadpool.  I have some other odds and ends you might be interested in too.  That #98 issue is a pretty nice piece though.  Not graded.  Looking for digital not physical coins right now though.  Hit me up if interested

I'll give you a shout.  I'm definitely interested in that #98.

Oh wow, you've got some pretty cool comics here!  I'll take a closer look and shoot you a message.  Definitely a few that I'd like to own here.

Seeing a comic book from the 70s is a trip.  Hard to believe that thing was being read by kids before I was alive!  Very nice piece.  I'm trying to reduce my random collector's items as I get older, but these are great items.  I had some old comic books at one point, but I have no idea what happened to them.  I think it's likely that my parents threw them away when I moved out along with countless other priceless items I had acquired throughout my youth as I've always been a collector (you think it's a good idea to leave your valuables with your parents when you turn 18 and leave the house, but I can tell you first hand that it is not).  Good luck with your trades!

Don't even get me started on leaving shit at your parents house.  I have saved damn near everything from my childhood, and some of the coolest things I owned were lost my by my parents when I went off to college.  My parents moved so damn much shit would get lost in the shuffle.  Ticks me off just thinking about it.
38  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Australia's first Bitcoin ETF just opened for trading on: June 05, 2024, 05:18:27 PM
This is great news!  I also prefer to hold/own/buy bitcoin directly, but there's a lot of people who've got money in retirement plans, like IRA's here in the United States that can't access the funds prior to the age of 59.5, so investing it a bitcoin ETF allows direct exposure as well as limits tax liability (potentially) or is simply the only source of money that they have that is able to be invested in bitcoin.

I wonder if in AU, or other countries across the glove if your stock market allows for US ETFs through ADR's, or a similar type product (ADRs= American Depository Receipts.. a way to own a stock that is not listed in the US)
39  Other / Off-topic / Re: Gambling is a fatal mistake on: June 05, 2024, 05:12:18 PM
Actually I have an elder brother in gambling, he basically works in a private company. Received May salary on June 04/06/2024, he did not come home after receiving salary. Three sons one daughter and his wife live in his house, and he gambled all night and entered the house on the next day 05/06/2024 today morning after losing all the salary money. After entering the house, his wife asked him to go to market, he replied, I don't have money, wife said, you got salary, what did you do with the salary money?
In this way, quarrels between the two gradually arise and when it becomes known in the society, it is gradually known that he has played gambling. And he went somewhere far away from home after the fight till now there is no trace of him and he didn't try to contact him till now. So I shared this with you because of how dangerous gambling is in the eyes of families and society. What could be the biggest reason behind this person giving complete money loss?

Your headline is a bit misleading, are you assuming your brother-in-law has passed away? I would sure hope not.

Just because your brother in law was reckless with his money, doesn't mean that anyone else who's gambling will be to. It's one of those things that can carry negative consequences, but that doesn't mean it's going to.  Just because one person dies form taking some experimental medicine, that doesn't necessarily mean everyone who takes it is going to suffer the same consequences.

If this is a real story, I certainly hope for the best for your family.
40  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can someone take gambling as a source of income to he/she life? on: June 05, 2024, 05:07:58 PM
I mean technically there are people whom can make a living selling farts in a jar ( this is literally something that some people do), so yeah sure, anyone can make a living from relatively anything, but that of course does not guarantee any level of success, or you being able to make that living.  There are absolutely professional gamble whom make their living my gambling.  However, most people don't have what it takes and even professional gambler can really struggle at times.

I don't think most people are cut out for it.
