21  Economy / Service Discussion / Blockfi - Any reviews or pointers ? on: March 19, 2020, 03:14:36 PM
Wondering if any one has any experience/ reviews / pointers on blockfi ( blockfi.com  )

They claim to give 5% interest rate on your BTC deposits ( https://blockfi.com/rates/ ) .
They are backed by the Winklevoss brothers (https://winklevosscapital.com/portfolio/)

Just wanted to check with the experienced folks here before I make an investment here .
Any pointers will be good .
22  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Depositing crypto into BlockFi to earn interest, ok or stupid idea? on: March 19, 2020, 03:08:20 PM
Anyone has any details about the location of blockfi ?
I checked their site and got this address -  ( https://blockfi.com/contact/ )

201 Montgomery Street
Second Floor, Suite 263
Jersey City, New Jersey 07302
646-779-9688

Also found that the following firms also share the same office address  as above  -
1. "New Jersey Anesthesia Professionals"   ( If you search this on google )
2. Colormatics  ( https://www.colormatics.com/#contact )
3. Data Gallery LLC ( https://www.facebook.com/pg/datagallery.io/about/ )

I am not sure how virtual companies work, and I have heard of virtual addresses for firms, but  w.r.t sharing the same address with lots of other firms, I haven't seen many cases. But given that they are backed by the Winklevoss brothers and Perter Thiel etc,  ( https://winklevosscapital.com/portfolio/ ) , having to not have a "real" office is kind of showing lack of trust ? I don't know where they operate from.

Any leads on this before I start investing my BTC with them ??

If you need a loan, but traditional institutions won’t bring it to you; or because you don’t trust them as I do, Blockfi brings you a great opportunity to borrow money using your cryptocurrencies as collateral, while offering you a super-low interest rate.

Its below5K now, so you can get the 2sats / point now  Grin

~ I mean, didn't RP use to be worth 2 satoshis at some point? It's been a year at least since I last checked!

Yes, the value is linked to BTCUSD. If people were quick they could have got 2 sats briefly on Friday as the trigger price is $5000.

Here's more news on this

http://www.financialexpress.com/market/cut-all-ties-with-bitcoin-cryptocurrencies-rbi-tells-banks-financial-institutions/1122629/

This is the minute from todays RBI monetary policy report -

"MPC has decided that entities regulated by RBI cannot deal with or provide services to any individual or business entities dealing with or settling virtual currencies like bitcoin."

My understanding on this is that Banks (entities regulated by RBI) would not be supporting any of the bitcoin service providers in india ( zebpay / Unocoin etc ) in any of their settelment processes . That means that  linking your bank account with these service providers to withdraw INR from bitcoin exchanges would be deemed illegal from now on. Not sure how banks would take into account the already liked zebpay/unocoin accounts . Its wait and watch .
Anyone having any other view ?

Did any one listen to the RBI monetary policy today ? There was a mention of Bitcoin operators to be made illegal - I didnt quite catch it , but if anyone who heard the RBI Governer talking today, maybe he could explain ? Else will have to wait for some news bytes to come in to make a clearer picture.

Thanks for the offer ,
I have dropped a PM with my login id

Hi,
Is there a support email id . Iam trying to reset my password . But the "reset password " link does not appear to come to my email id. Not sure which email id to send to . Any help / pointers are appreciated.

Send me a PM with your user ID and the email address and I'll pass it on to the admin.

Edit: I probably should have said the obvious check your spam folder thing as well.

30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ NMR ] Numeraire - What do you think about? on: March 23, 2018, 10:34:06 AM
I stumbled upon this old thread ..and was interested to know if the above posters were still holding on to their NMRs. ( Now that 1 NMR=$14 today )

By the way - Here's an update on the NMR front -
Numer.ai is giving away $1 million in airdrops ( but only for those who have a kaggle account - a data science platform by google.)
i.e 5NMR right away + 1 NMR per week. ( If you are above 'novice' (on kaggle) and have a numer.ai account ) and can put your profile url to that of your numer.ai url.

Link here : https://numer.ai/airdrops

Confession: I still hold considerable amounts of NMR . ( After many ups and downs and value erosion.)

Your point being ... ?

Nicehash hacked !
Am just concerned about the security features in place for sites like freebitco.in
Overnight, all your BTC will be gone !!!
https://www.usnews.com/news/business/articles/2017-12-07/bitcoin-miner-nicehash-reports-hack-theft-of-its-wallet

You are obviously very new to the scene. This is just another in a long line of hacks although there are a lot less frequent now than they were before. You have to make a judgment about both how trustworthy and competent the site owners are. Wetsuit would be right at the top of my list for both.

Thanks for the responses.

I have been posting regarding the discrepancy in the exchange rates . Now that you brought it up here , let me re-question your rates.

1. Why are you giving the customers a ridiculously low exchange rate ( 40% lower than the current market rates ) ? ( .032(market rate) v/s 0.019 (your rate)
Note : rates today =0.032 BTC / BTG ( as on Nov 22 0400 UTC - source : https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-gold/)

2. Why have you pegged the rate at a constant 0.019 BTC/BTG when market exchange prices are not ?

We offered the BTG exchange on Nov 20th in the early morning, at the time BTG was worth BTC0.015. So we actually offered the BTG conversion at a rediculously high 30% greater than market value.

Since that time BTG has doubled in value, maybe on our news (?!).

We're not a currency exchange, we don't offer dynamic conversion rates for alternative currencies. What we do is honor hard fork airdrops for our members and daily interest on balanced, which is more than every other Bitcoin wallet in existence!

3. When you enable the BTG transfer to other wallet , are you going to charge for the transfer?

This feature is being developed as we speak. I can't give a definite availability date yet, but it's coming...and we don't bullshit around about these announcements.

The cost of the transfer will be the transaction fees assessed by the miners, as is customary for any blockchain transaction. We don't add our own fee on top.

Good questions.
38  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Freebitco.in as a wallet? on: November 22, 2017, 04:55:55 AM

Question :When will the transfer to other wallets be made available ? Any ETA ?

If you had funds with us during the recent Bitcoin hard-fork, we have credited you with extra Bitcoin Gold (BTG) coins for each Bitcoin that you had with us.

You can exchange your Bitcoin Gold (BTG) that was credited to you directly into Bitcoin at a rate of 0.019 BTC/BTG. When you exchange, the extra Bitcoins will be added to your account balance and can be withdrawn instantly.

The BTG that you have received is in addition to the BTC that you had with us and is an extra amount which can be exchanged to increase your BTC holdings by 1.9% by simply clicking a button!

The option to withdraw your BTG will also be available in a few days.

Exchange to another wallet ? Transfer you mean ?? ( i hope )
Soon we will also allow you to exchange that Bitcoin Gold to another wallet

Bottom line for freebitco.in customers :
1. Donot exchange your btg to btc on freebitco.in
2.Wait for the "transfer to other wallet" option and then move out your BTG.

Well ,  with the current market rate of 0.033 BTC / BTG , freebitco.in is giving a very low exchange rate @ 0.019 BTC/ BTG .  Angry
It is better off waiting for them to open up the withdrawal option ( which they say will come soon ) and transfer the BTG elsewhere and change it rather than exchanging it at freebitco.in at this rate .

i don't see that option though, maybe those who had held BTC at the time of snapshot see it?

Yes, it was there for me, after exchanging it goes away as the new BTG balance is zero. If you had a zero balance at the time of the snapshot then you would not be due any BTG so it would not be displayed.

ahh... I wouldn't notice this if I didn't read this thread.
surprisingly I'm entitled to 0.00068968 BTG which can be exchanged to 0.00001310 BTC  Tongue
it must've recorded my balance before I lost it a month ago when trying to recoup my losses
