Hey, are you guys still looking for coders?
23  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The mandatory fee is too big for microtransactions on: May 30, 2011, 05:05:27 PM
Seems the minimum fee is going to be lowered to 0.0005 BTC: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/218

Is this helpful in any way: http://radicalmojo.appspot.com/3 ?

You put your address in the first box, and get the minimum unique address (depending on the addresses already in the database). Alternatively, you put some initial letters in the second box, and the system outputs the whole address.

Oh man, this is overtaking the world WAAAYY faster than I imagined. Great job guys!  Wink

So what's the next step, a shiny website?
26  Economy / Marketplace / Re: The Million Bitcoin Homepage! on: May 20, 2011, 05:55:54 PM
Project update: I've fixed a couple of frontend bugs, and the pixels with zero BTC budget are now displayed transparent, which means the bad pixels can't do much harm, since they are hardly visible. Once you pay at least 0.001 BTC, the pixels become fully visible.

The site traffic is currently low, but is expected to rise once Bitcoin becomes more mainstream.

Planned for the next update is an affiliate program: you earn some percentage (maybe 50%) of all the bitcoins sent by the person you referred.

Thanks to everyone who already bought a pixel.
27  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why is the maximum target 00000000ffff00...00? on: May 19, 2011, 02:06:39 PM
Yeah, but you'd be sending data with every single calculation.

Satoshi started it off to be "easy", but he didn't make it generate 50 coins per single hash!

Thanks, I see now that the other calculations take the actual maximum into account:

28  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Why is the maximum target 00000000ffff00...00? on: May 19, 2011, 01:25:47 PM
This is probably a silly question, but why is maxtarget:

Code:
00000000ffff0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Since sha256 hash has 32 bits, shouldn't the maximum possible target be:

Code:
ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

Odd, looks like a few people donated to my pixels...
I bought the top-left square for 5 BTC, and it now has more than 8.

Yup, it was me... I sent a random number between 3 and 4 BTC to every legitimate pixel on the board. I'm also doing some tweaks so that bad pixels won't affect the site much. Thanks for your support, ripper234!
30  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: How many bitcoins do you CURRENTLY have? on: May 17, 2011, 04:10:22 PM
This should probably be more Gaussian, but I'm putting it out anyway as a thought experiment:

1 person, Satoshi, has a million BTC
10 have 100.000 BTC (2 MIO total)
100 have 10.000 BTC (3 MIO total)
1000 have 1.000 BTC (4 MIO total)
10000 have 100 BTC (5 MIO total)
100000 have 10 BTC (6 MIO total)

1 + 10 + 100 + 1 000 + 10 000 + 100 000 = 111 111 users

Why would I trust this central authority of your new system?
32  Economy / Marketplace / The Million Bitcoin Homepage! on: May 08, 2011, 08:49:37 AM
Remember the old Million Dollar Homepage? Here's one for Bitcoin:

http://www.themillionbitcoinhomepage.com/

[UPLOADING PIXELS]
Like the original, there are 1.000.000 pixels available for sale. You can upload pixels (free for 24 hours) by clicking on an empty parcel (20x20 px) and pushing the big Upload button. After the upload completes, you will be asked to enter a title, description and URL for your newly uploaded pixels.

[PAYING WITH BITCOIN]
After you've successfully initialized some pixels, click on them again, and a new popup bubble will appear. Look for an (unique) bitcoin address to the bottom of the bubble - that's the address for your pixels. You can make as many payments as you want, in fact anyone can, since the address is visible to everyone.

[PRICE]
The current price for one parcel (20x20 pixels) is 0.01 BTC per day (even if the price changes, existing deadlines stay the same).

[DISCOUNTS]
Each single payment of more than 1 BTC results in 20% more time for your pixels. If you send more than 5 BTC in one transaction, you get 30% additional time. And finally, a payment of more than 25 BTC results in 40% extra time. The discounts are NOT cumulative.

So for example, if you send 1 BTC, your pixels would last for 100 + 20 days. After 120 days, you would have to send some more, to keep the pixels alive.

33  Economy / Marketplace / Re: offering Google App Engine couching for BTC on: May 06, 2011, 02:00:52 PM
Do you really mean couching or coaching? I'm a little confused.

~lulz

I thought that looked weird... yes, I meant coaching as you suggest.
34  Economy / Marketplace / offering Google App Engine coaching for BTC on: May 06, 2011, 09:32:56 AM
I'm a long time Python coder, currently doing heavy development as a Google App Engine freelancer. I am offering my knowledge of GAE(possibly for a Bitcoin-aware application) in exchange for Bitcoins.

If you happen to travel via Slovenia, I can provide you with gas and a couch.

Oh, also, I'm selling a car (Hyundai Elantra, year 1999) for 750 BTC.
