21  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is btc-e down for anyone else? on: April 17, 2013, 05:37:14 AM
This has happened for me a few times lately, but it's usually working again within 15 minutes or so  Undecided
22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin block on: April 17, 2013, 04:43:52 AM
Question: As a nonminer, does there exist a page where I can find out what number the latest devcoin block was ? Thank's for help.

There's some information about each coin at vircurex. It's at the bottom of the sidebar on the right, so you might have to scroll down a bit.

26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New to LTC - OS X on: April 14, 2013, 11:45:27 PM
I've used cgminer and minerd on OS X, and they both work fine.

However, I haven't done much mining on my mac and probably wouldn't recommend it. The iMac is quite thin, so it only fits a mobile graphics card and the computer can heat up a lot. I didn't think it was worth the risks for such a small gain.

Wow you're a real jerk considering they asked for help pointing out security vulnerabilities and you go all ape-shit on them with your enormous red font.

Sorry. I just don't want other people to lose money like I did.

How much did you lose?

Post your address

Not much at all. I just used a tiny bit while testing and lost almost most of it, so I wanted to warn others. I apologise if I was rude about it before.

DO NOT USE THIS SITE YET

It is vulnerable to cross-site request forgery.

This basically means that if you are logged in to the exchange, any random site you visit can log you out, cancel your orders, possibly create new orders (haven't checked this one yet), or withdraw your money to the attacker's address (I have successfully done this with my own account).

Not to mention that in the process of testing it my 0.5 BTE magically turned into 0.005 BTE. I made one order to sell 0.5 BTE at a price of 0.1 (BTC per BTE I presume, but I can't be sure since are no units given for the price, amount or total). When I cancelled it, I only got 0.05 BTE back. I did a similar thing again and it further reduced my balance to 0.005 BTE.

So I'd definitely recommend avoiding this site for now/ever.

IT experts, please test the site for security vulnerabilities. We want to make sure the exchange is rock solid. Thanks in advance

Trying to withdraw without any money gives a fatal error.

Also, I'd replace "username doesn't exist" and "incorrect password" with a less revealing message like "invalid username/password combination", but that's just me being fussy.

Have you tried mining any other coins?
32  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: April 12, 2013, 03:01:31 AM
... so yeah, I was looking into solar powered mining (low wattage system does = to low hashing rate sadly) but that makes it basically 100% profit to me (unless I buy up the battery and panels)

Still confused by the concept of pool mining and what "shares" are

This topic might be helpful.

I created my account a couple of hours ago but it still shows Total time logged in: 26 minutes.  I've left the browser window open, but I haven't been actively clicking around the site for the entire time.  How is the logged in time actually calculated?

It seems to only count time when you have recently been active.

Devcoin sounds really interesting so far! I hope it becomes more popular (you guys seem to be doing a great job with that).

I experimented with some images based on bitboy's bitcoin graphics. The text and colour can be easily changed if anyone has suggestions.

MtGox has recently said that the "official announcement will likely be this week" on twitter.

Apr 07 12:15:38 <MagicalTux>   liteboy: it depends on the strength of the devteam behind each currency and proven reliability
Apr 07 12:15:54 <MagicalTux>   also depends on customer depand
Apr 07 12:15:56 <MagicalTux>   demand*
Apr 07 12:16:25 <liteboy>   MAgicalTux: thats awesome, i like the fact that the actual dev of the coin means something to you. So no junk coins.

Apr 07 12:22:56 <liteboy>   MagicalTux: lol, hey, it was worth a try Smiley
Apr 07 12:23:58 <liteboy>   MagicalTux: are you able to state wheather or not Mt.Gox is still planning LTC for this month?
Apr 07 12:25:08 <MagicalTux>   liteboy: You'll see next week

37  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Would a micro pool of 50-100 gpu users have any luck? on: April 06, 2013, 01:31:42 AM
Like you said 'luck'. That is all you could rely on.

I see. I'm not very good at maths. Is it impossible to quantify the likelihood of 100 hd5850's finding a block? Or just totally random?

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Difficulty#How_soon_might_I_expect_to_generate_a_block.3F

Thanks.

difficulty * 2**32 / hashrate

how do you calculate 2**32 Huh what does the double ** mean?

It means 2 to the power of 32 (2^32 or 232).
38  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTE Block Confirmation Time? on: April 06, 2013, 12:53:38 AM
I think that's normal. It needs 120 confirmations which takes a while now.

Hi all Smiley

I also find the idea of cryptocurrencies intriguing.

Hi! I've been lurking here for a while but have been too lazy to make an account (until now) Tongue
