Yes we need to do that - working on it now. Hiring/contracting a person to keep Bitcointalk and all social media updated with information. There are a lot of people who have not heard of ZEN that we want to reach.
Please tell us more about this.
How are you planning to do this, what criteriums will be applied for choosing this person? Its would be wise to open contest for this so members here can involve as well, this will be also good marketing for ZEN.
Open new thread and invite all members who are interested to join, then you can chose with good help of rest of comunity. Chose smart and without rush, this person will be main figure here so must be reputable, avoid newbies and "red trusted members.
Maybe this can be done by few persons.
Bitcointalk, Twitter and social medias as separate.

That's a good point - the communities and how to communicate among them are different. And it does not have to be just one person. More than one might be good. Thank you for the suggestions!

On of the comments I see a lot on the ZenCash slack is from people who are unhappy that the price of ZEN has been going down. They want us to do something to immediatelly change the trajectory of the price. There are many different opinions expressed in many different places, and it si sometimes hard to get a feel for what the majority of people who are involved with ZEN are thinking.

One of the things I have learned through conversations is that people are involved with ZEN for many different reasons. One reason is for investing by buying with the expectation that the price goes higher. Many people are involved because they believe the ZenCash team has the ability to make a cryptocurrency that is focused on both privacy and usability.

What I believe is that the more people that are involved with a cryptocurrency, the more people will buy it, and the more the price will go up. That's why we are working through our plan that we wrote up and published. We want ZenCash to be used by people worldwide for private transactions, communications, and publishing.

It takes time to create something like that. We are working on the fundamentals, building the team, updating wallets, updating the website, improving and increasing marketing and social media, and doing as many things we can think of to increase the value of the cryptocurrency.

At the same time, there are speculators who do their best to make the price go up and down so they can make profits by buying low and selling high. That's all part of the crypto world. Speculators (pumpers and dumpers) have their place as well.

What we as a management team work to do is make steady progress, telling people about the improvements we are making, and work to build the vision we described in the white paper.

What we do not want to do is overpromise, hype, or look like we are creating artificial supply contstraints like other cryptos do in order to reduce the float of available trading ZEN. People see through that type of activity. It's just an artificial lockup, and does not increase the value of the system overall.

Because of mining, there are 216,000 new ZEN created each month. We need to do our part as a team and a community to get demand to be high enough so people buy all those ZEN every month, and want even more.

We are definitely working to add to our marketing team so we will have more articles, more videos, more social media, more entries on Bitcointalk, and other types of activity that drive engagement, excitement, and awareness. We can't get it all done at once in a way that creates an immediate price rise that many people seem to want, but we will get it done.

You are going to see consistent, accelerating progress from ZenCash. Over time this progress will be reflected in the price. Thank you for your support!

Team should consider to employ one member who will be here for public relations this way investors can be in direct touch with the team here not only on slack. This member should be here on daily basis to answer all questions and to keep comunity tight. This way investor will be more protected from the FUD.
Also this way bitcointalk comunity can be more included in project, and project will get more transparency and legitimity.

Yes we need to do that - working on it now. Hiring/contracting a person to keep Bitcointalk and all social media updated with information. There are a lot of people who have not heard of ZEN that we want to reach.

Blockops, thank you for the comprehensive update.
It is reassuring to see how dedicated your team is.

I have a question about secure nodes. Will there be a piece of software with an interface that we can run or is this going to be very low level?
I planned to run at least one node but I am afraid it might be beyond my ability as a Linux noob.
The guides I have seen so far don't make it seem too bad though.

Is there any idea how often we will need to access the server to do updates?

Thanks again!

Glad you like the Secure Nodes. In addition to the Zen node software, I expect there will be a python application with a configuration file that will need to be run. If you can follow the directions for building nodes that I published so far, you won't have a problem with the rest of it.

Not sure how often the software will need to be updated. Hopefully less than once per month.

New blog post about Secure Node System for tracking and payment. If you are developer or know a developer please take a look:
https://blog.zensystem.io/zencash-secure-node-system-overview-video/

New Youtube video on Secure Node System - https://youtu.be/pgTPy4D27Yg

An important part of ZenCash is operating Secure Nodes. Zen Nodes run the software that makes the ZenCash system work.

The purpose of Secure Nodes is to create a network that is large and resilient enough to provide the foundation for a worldwide private communication and publishing system that is difficult to interrupt and gather data on. The ideal would be 1000-5000 secure nodes, each running on a separate system, all over the world.

Part of the ZenCash specification is to redirect 3.5% of the mining reward to the owners of ZenCash Secure Node which meet the requirements. The ZenCash Secure Node System is the application software running on nodes as well as the systems and servers which perform these functions:

  • Challenge Generation
  • Response Tracking
  • Analysis and Reporting
  • Payment

The first level implementation is to get the basics of the system going so people can operate and be rewarded for running Secure Nodes. Over time the system can be improved to be more distributed, resilient, and automatic. Each of the specific applications are intended to run on servers owned by the ZenCash Foundation, with operation by team members.

The ZenCash Secure Node System will be developed and paid for by funds from the ZenCash treasury. Please visit the Forum post to review and discuss how to best implement the system. Also discussed on the ZenCash slack in #developers and #securenodes channels.

Anyone know the mods of the Zen Telegram group? there is a spam bot that needs to be banned, 40 members have already left the group over it.

Cheers.

I'll let ssdhillon know about it. He started the Telegram group.

Question to blackops
what will happen if i have transferred zencash to bittrex from miningpool. not knowing, in bittrex the zen wallet is under maintenance - should i be worried.
on the other hand, it is a bit amateurish for bittrex to lock the thinks down, without advising the customers. example: when i log in they send me an email. so why not do the same - when you are about to do something major like a locking the wallet, type of things. if we would like to take crypto to next level we have to be proactive and bulletproof from the get-go - other then that is a hobby.
constructive advice, when you do something. do right from the beginning, you have other coins to look for faults and you take only the best from them - on the other hand if you show weakness and continuously fix thinks it does not look good. I wish you guys the best and i love and i support your coin.

Thank you, I appreciate both your advice and support.

I believe if you already had a deposit address at Bittrex and sent zen to them, you should see it when wallet comes out of maintenance and updates with the blockchain again. I am not completely sure of that, but it is what I would expect would happen.

ZENCASH:

Is the software with the the fixes version v.2.0.8-4?
If not when will the latest be released and how do we update?

When will Bittrex wallets be unlocked?

It is this version Zen 2.0.8-2

At this url: https://github.com/ZencashOfficial/zen

You can still trade Zen on Bittrex you are not able to deposit or withdraw. I expect Bittrex will unlock wallets when they are confident there is a low chance of a replay attack.

No, 2.0.8-2 is not the latest version.

Click on "3 releases" on github and you will see the newer versions. The readme has not been updated, which is confusing. I assume nodes should be running at least v.2.0.8-4 and wanted to know if there will be a release with the latest 6 commits that should be used.

ok, sorry about that. I am doing a new git clone, compile, and will post the version for you. It's been a busy day.

The devs are also working on another update soon, and will make sure to update on this thread.

may i ask what indicators your talking about ? only 1 person involved in this issue was allways the case nothing changed from past news.

@blockops said this on slack (he's one of the more serious devs)

Quote
blockops [2:06 AM]
I've had a few people ask me this so I'll provide a public answer. Movrcx won't be rejoining the Zen core team with me and @finpunk

Right now the 8.5% treasury allocation is accumulating and we intend to use the funds to bootstrap the growth of Zen by hiring Developers and spending the funds in other ways that benefit the project.

Movcrx, real name Joshua Yabut, is the guy responsible for this entire mess by publicly pointing out an exploit which scared everyone and caused bittrexz to shut down wallets, who insulted the other devs, left the team to go *back* to ZCL.

Thank you for the support!

My slack posting was the first two paragraphs. I did not post the third paragraph in the slack. I fixed the quote marks for you  Smiley
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZENCASH: Permanent, Distributed, and Fully Anonymous cryptocurrency on: June 08, 2017, 01:12:42 PM
Part of the answer is that the last block (114451) took over an hour to solve.

I have been noticing that as soon as the difficulty gets around 145000 or higher it gets very difficult to solve a block and it seems out of proportion to what I would expect. It also takes long time for the difficulty to adjust down.  I assume because the time between blocks is too long.   No one is going to make any money if the coin can't be mined.

Can the devs investigate this?

EDIT: the net hash rate dropped to 5.88 once the block was found. So much for conspiracy theories....

I wondered about this also. I had some conversations at Consensus before the Zen launch announcement party that were enlightening. There were some investors who wanted to get Zclassic before the split. They were working to buy large amounts of Zclassic but couldn't without driving the price up too high on Bittrex. They could not find any private party willing to sell. So they hired some miners to get them as much as they could get.

Something similar might be happening now. There was no Zen ICO, no pre-allocation of large amounts of cryptocurrency like Ethereum, no 20% carve-out of mining that gets paid directly to the venture capital investors in the project like in Zcash. The only way to get Zen is to mine it. The 79% of hash rate that can't be found is, in my best guess, hired hashrate from different investors who want to be able to get into a new cryptocurrency and are doing it the only way they can right now, which is mining it. They run their private pools or proxy servers for solo mining, and don't worry about attracting retail level miners, because they don't need to.

Those GPU's that are sold out? Probably going to the big private mining farms that have been buying in large quantity for years. Good, longtime, consistent customers with lots of future purchasing ability always get the best allocations of restricted product.

How does that affect retail level miners? It's good! Where there is broadbased demand, that's good news for a cryptocurrency.

And I really admire people like @ocminer who are willing to build and expand mining pools for all sorts of cryptocurrencies. I would not be able to deal with the amount of crap he gets on a daily basis from people who use his pools for mining and making money, and complain and accuse him of not being fair.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZENCASH: Permanent, Distributed, and Fully Anonymous cryptocurrency on: June 08, 2017, 02:28:53 AM
Sorry if that question already came up but i haven't found it.
Is there any road map of major updates/releases?

There is a road map in the white paper. Right now we need to get the things going that we have been talking about as differentiators. With funding being generated for paying developers and doing other things, we'll be able to do it.

Big picture, the things we are looking at doing in the near term are:
Update Zen node software to work with SSL
Get the Eleos wallets reliable and useful on all platforms
Enable Secure node features in code, then start the tracking and payouts
Flesh out the governance model and work to get it going.
Get the additional infrastructure set up - block explorers, node tracking, more guides, improved website.
Continue work on internationalization of information.
35  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZENCASH: Permanent, Distributed, and Fully Anonymous cryptocurrency on: June 08, 2017, 02:23:31 AM
Quite a few ZEN pools are down or really slow with timeouts, and others are too tiny/new to inspire much confidence:

miningspeed.com - down

minez.zone - down, their 55 ZEN gift doesn't really compensate if it goes down too often (ddos or not); not sure how effective their ddos countermeasures are, the last downtime was substantial (7+ hours judging from the reports here)

suprnova.cc - I had timeouts on it all day, my miners kept being disconnected for long periods, web interface utterly slow or timeouts

zencash.cloud -  up, but hardly anyone is on it ...

luckpool.org - up, but hashrate at only 57 kSol/s, 13 miners, and the top miner has 53 kSol/s, so if/when that one leaves ...

cryptobroker - up, hashrate at 300 kSol/s, but only 7 miners, and top miner has 290 kSol/s, so if/when that leaves ...

zenmine.pro - up, hashrate at 185 kSol/s, 130 miners ... the most "healthy" so far (also 0% fee)

miningpool.io - up, but hashrate at only 24 kSol/s, 13 miners ...

mixpools.org - no idea, haven't tried it, there are 0 miners on it ...

zenpool.eu - up, but only 1 miner with 280 Sol/s

NOTE ON SUPRNOVA: Last time I could access the Suprnova web interface, it was showing about 80% of the entire network hashrate ... that's not a healthy network. If any of the big miners are reading this, please consider at least spreading your hashrate to other pools! I totally understand that the alternatives haven't proven very reliable until now, but still ...

EDIT: using the alternative address sup.rnova.cc, it shows the hashrate is only about 1.1M out of 5.5M, so only 20% ... this is odd and doesn't quite add up. I've looked at most pools and the sum of all other pools is less than 1M, so either there are a shitload of solo miners out there, or suprnova is reporting wrong numbers

Hey, you missed my pool! There's actually a lot of small pools out there. But the network hash rate rose so fast many switched to other coins or joined larger pools. I'm aiming all the miners I have at my own pool and hope to find a few blocks per day. Maybe if other people join it will even the rate out.

I think that we should all contact Ledger and ask for them to integrate Zen support into their wallets - I would think it would be easy to do as they already support Zcash and it would definitely increase the exposure and legitimacy of Zen!

Ledger support is on the roadmap. I talked with one of the Ledger owners at Consensus last month to get the conversation started. There is a process, and it costs money, which is fair.

Hardware wallet support is important, and it is on the roadmap.

Here is part 1 of 3 for building a Zen Secure Node:
https://blockoperations.com/build-zencash-secure-node-part-1-prepare-vps/

Here is part 2 (just published)
https://blockoperations.com/build-zencash-secure-node-part-2-build-zen-node/

I will publish Part 3 after the Zen Developers add the Secure Node functionality to the software.

Secure Node functionality is still a work in progress. Right now there are no secure nodes.

Hey guys, sorry new to the thread - has BitTrex agreed to handle the ZCL swap or do I need to move coins into a wallet?
Bittrex has already swapped ZCL to ZEN, if you had ZCL you have a 1:1 in you ZEN wallet on Bittrex

So then this "Anyone who holds Zclassic prior to block the launch event in NYC on May 23rd, 2017 will be allocated a 1:1 amount of Zen automatically." in the OP is not accurate? Or can we still do it via the import private key method?

Wow, thanks for pointing that out in the FAQ. This was at the very top of the OP:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UPDATE: ZenCash Chain split from Zclassic at Block 110,000, then launch on May 23 from 7-9 pm!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll go change the FAQ also. Sorry about the mixed message.
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ZEN] ZENCASH: Permanent, Distributed, and Fully Anonymous cryptocurrency on: May 19, 2017, 12:07:53 AM
if your coins are on bittrex you dont need to do anything they will credit your Zen wallet at 1:1 ratio.

For the other wallets :

"Anyone who holds Zclassic prior to block 100,000  will be allocated a 1:1 amount of Zen automatically. Simply import your private keys into the new Zen wallet to redeem your tokens."

Thanks for that info. May I know if that applies to the Eleos wallet or the Zclassic wallet as well?

For ZCL that you hold in private wallet it is not automatic. You will have to export you private keys from ZCL wallet, then import them into your ZenCash wallet.

Using the Eleos wallet, you can do this by Backing up wallet, change to ZenCash, then Import wallet. Some pictures of the process are shown here. The pictures don't show ZenCash, because the Eleos wallet that has ZenCash is not yet ready:
