22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Newbie wanting to mine LTC on: June 29, 2017, 07:15:21 PM
To my knowledge, anything that mines via a USB stick right now is going to be a waste of time I'm afraid

Save up a few thousand, then your probably ready to enter the market somewhere.. somewhen... somehow

Good luck  Grin
23  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Botnet mining possible? on: June 28, 2017, 04:32:09 PM
Jus thinking out loud here... but would it in theory be possible to make a sneaky virus, that once on an infected machine, could then run quietly in the background a mining program... just a few Mh here and there, nothing so much that you would notice..

For example wannacry allegedly infected over 250,000 machines.. if each machine could contribute a mere 2mh/s or so.. that would be a network total of 500Gh!? Which... if mining etherium.. and using crypto compare to calculate rates as of today - 28th June 2017 that would be more than $2.2m per month!!

I'm sure.... there is a barrier to entry here that I'm missing (most likely the fact that building such a large botnet is no easy feat)

Ponderings appreciated Smiley

24  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Is EthOS free orrrrr...? on: June 28, 2017, 12:25:48 PM
You can buy it for $39... but then it says that it's freeware and is free for redistribution... but then it says if you use it for more than one rig then you will be visited by an albino quadruped....

I'm so confused :/

Don't mind paying for it.. just don't wanna get blacklisted by the NYPD/FBI if I use it on multiple rigs...
25  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: BAIKAL asic mine 2000MH/s on: June 28, 2017, 06:30:52 AM
Not that it offers us any help, but I emailed Baikal last night (and for some reason im lucky enough that they always reply to me) but they have said the usual - all miners are out of stock... for now... and unsure when new batch in stock -

I hope the ibelinks are delayed a tiny bit so that my cubes dont get crushed just yet! haha
26  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoin pump groups on: June 27, 2017, 10:23:25 PM
how much volume do you think needs to be moved to create a decent pump? Why dont we all in this thread just band together in our own group...

Rule 1. Dont talk about the pump group

Rule 2. Dont talk about the pump group

Rule 3. Set accurate UTC pump and UTC dump and stick to them

Im pretty sure rules 1 - 3 are the same the Barclays use when pumping gold.......
27  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What does the altcoin market need to increase its trustworthiness and marketcap? on: June 27, 2017, 06:22:57 PM
You are quite right, the current pump and dump groups, ICO rallies and all that shit are geared more towards the opportunistic profiteers looking for quick short term high yield.

What the altcoin market needs to increase its trustworthiness and as a consequence, its market cap, it real world market adoption.

For example, if vendors started accepting Dash, then dash would integrate more permanently into the real-world environment. Since it would then have a true use and true value, it should attract more and more trust and market cap as more and more people adopt it to actually use it, rather than just pump it and dump it.

This really then relies on a coin that has the capability of being used in real world markets. Bitcoin has long block times, too long for quick in-store transactions for example. Each coin, with its slightly different features makes it an evolution of bitcoin in essence. So when a coin is built with suitable characteristics for real world use, it should then grow in adoption.

The crypto scene needs a more direct and established link to real world products and services. Only then will a/those coin(s) become firmly rooted and have price stability akin to fiat currency.

28  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to protect my altcoins? Please help. on: June 27, 2017, 05:58:24 PM
It should be possible to store all of your coins in paper wallets or at the very least deep freeze offline wallets

Paper is the most secure really... as long as you dont lose the paper.... but also takes the longest to thaw it out
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum early warning on: June 27, 2017, 05:56:33 PM
You can still open the parachute.

You are approaching.

So what your saying, without the metaphorical representation, is that you think eth is going to continue to tank further?

It most certainly will with advice to open one's parachute haha

30  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Starting to mine Litecoins with Antminer L3+ from September 2017. Questions! on: June 27, 2017, 11:18:32 AM
Tldr

You haven't so much as missed the boat of mining... more, missed the boat of mining with the L3+...

The key to mining is to be a zero day adopter - so the people who ordered the L3+ on the first batch will profit quickly and have the largest total ROI - due to their early position on a less difficult market
Beyond about batch 2 or maybe 3 profits and total ROI become increasingly small

This early adoption advantage holds true for any kind of mining hardware, but is exacerbated by BitMain products in particular due to the sheer quantity of hardware they produce; flooding the market and causing catastrophic difficulty.

For example - BitMain themselves will have mined with all of these units pre-dispatch and as such they have the largest zero day advantage and the highest scrap value yield for each unit
The further down the queue you are/the further away you are from zero day, the lower your scrap value will be and the higher your difficulty, and as such, lower total ROI and larger risk on capital employed.

I would abort plans to buy the L3+ as the ship has sailed. Difficulty from here on out will grow, and ROI will only be saved by market price of LTC (which is extremely tricky to predict with any real accuracy)

I would save your liquidity for employment elsewhere when the next zero day product launches.

I hope that makes some sense. I can try and explain further if required
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Sapphire RX 470 4GB OC Reference cards overheating? on: June 27, 2017, 06:12:55 AM
1. Is anyone mining with rigs full of these cards? The single, centrifugal fan type?

2. Have you had any issues with overheating or with the cards dying and needing replacement?

3. Any remedies or solutions if the answer to 2. Was yes? I.e: auxiliary fans to aid cooling or lower the clock rates so they can chill out a bit etc?

Thanks
32  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Anyone preordering the siacoin asic then? on: June 26, 2017, 07:47:24 AM
Seems like a fair old shittonne of money to drop for a whole years wait!

Yield seems to be about $950/month

Could almost get two gpu rigs up and running for that much... (if you can get the gpus of course haha)

So is anyone actually thinking of dropping a preorder?
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Do you name your Mining Rigs ? on: June 23, 2017, 10:52:16 PM
First two were named Dufresne and Django.

As in Andy Dufresne from the Shawkshank Redemption - who used a rock hammer to mine a tunnel through his cell wall to freedom.
And Django - who just bossed his way to freedom.

I will free myself from the antiquated, cyclical bindings of 9-5 working life.

At the base of that wall, you'll find a rock that has no earthly business in a Maine hayfield. Piece of black, volcanic glass. There's something buried under it I want you to have.
34  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The Elephant in the Room - Difficulty on: June 23, 2017, 10:46:08 PM
kinda makes me want to place an IF THEN buy order... $100 buy if price is 10c.....

....maybe i should place this kinda order on all the major coins actually.... either cryptographic currency all dies and I lose a few K... or I make a lot of K's..

Or such market rarities wont happen again..
35  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Question about a new mine operation on: June 23, 2017, 10:34:13 PM
Hello everyone,

I'm rather new to mining and have a few questions for the veterans here which I hope will be kind enough to answer with honest answers.

I'm buying 50 antminers s9 for 1113 each + psu's at $105 each.
My avg electricity kwh cost is at around $0.145

With the current raise in difficulty, do you think it would be making any profit assuming the exchange rate will be at or above $2500 per BTC in a few months?

I would be thankful to have a chat with someone who can spare some time to explain things to me.

-Shyig

I would strongly suggest learning more about how mining works, and the risks associated with it, as well as the requirements beyond just hardware and electricty (space, power stability and heat etc) before dropping 55 grand

Just as one investing 50k in a business start up, or investment portfolio would formulate a business plan, with strength-weakness-opportunity-threat analysis, growth and ROI forecasts and breakeven targets - not to mention contingency planning, prior to exchanging hard earned liquidity for risky opportunities.

Or... if you dont wish to gather and sift through hours and hours and books and books of knowledge, then you should reapportion part of your investment to hiring someone with the appropriate skills.

Good luck and welcome to mining
36  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / So what do people predict is next for SHA256 mining? on: June 23, 2017, 02:52:14 PM
Are BitMain about to release a new antminer after dumping all their S9's?

Will a new rival company with newer chip tech enter the market?

Will be endure an ice age like plateau in mining hash per watt for some period of time now?

Ponderings welcome Smiley
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Semi-ASIC project for ASIC proof coins on: June 21, 2017, 10:38:50 AM
Hello everyone,

I'm Emre. I'm newbie Smiley First of all sorry for my bad English.

We have a team work on FPGA projects. We interested in altcoins for a 5-6 months. Especially asic-proof coins. There is a lot of altcoin and says "We are ASIC-proof". Arrow. Well.

How about this idea:
Semi-ASICs. What is this? It has a real graphics card and a cooperate FPGA hash booster in standard PC motherboard. And work with together. Estimated hash boost capability 5x to 12x (depend algorithm) with little power compsution (15-25 watts).
We are working with Xilinx ZYNQ series FPGA and we designed a hardware for custom co-operate PCI card. First result is good. We test it with ethereum minig.

I will share news here.

Thank you.

Sounds good! So when can we get our hands on it? I could do a review on a prototype for you?
38  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: POW vs POS on: June 17, 2017, 01:47:49 PM
I think your question is too vague..

Best for what circumstances? Someone who has a 1:1 scale model of the Taj Mahal made out of printed paper coins or someone who has 165,000 gpus in one mega, low earth orbit, free solar electricity mining hyper farm..?
39  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 560 4GB Ethereum on: June 16, 2017, 10:59:54 PM
New batches of RX470 is coming out for Mining. Yes.. new batch of RX470 and in big quantity. I might be able to sell some but shipping has to be paid by buyer. PM me if you guys are interested.

source for this? and dates?
40  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: All this talk about "mining specific" GPU's on: June 15, 2017, 06:18:52 PM
Agreed - the capabilities of a specific mining gpu must outweigh the lost scrap value since one cannot sell it on to the gaming or visualisation markets

Until that time, gaming cards will be the card of choice I believe simply due to their scrap value being taken into account when calculating lifetime ROI

Perhaps another point to add that would be desirable: compact size. The smaller the card the smaller the rig and the smaller the rig the more rigs one can fit into the space - thereby reducing the space a farm takes up (heat dissipation of course would need to remain unaffected.......)
