201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: January 02, 2018, 03:26:54 AM
I probably should have gotten a hardware wallet a looooooooooooong time ago - all my BTC is just divided into a bunch of Electrum Wallets all created and stored on TAILS. Once a wallet reaches 10 BTC I create a new one.
202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: January 01, 2018, 07:54:53 AM
I'm so annoyed I have literally ran out of space in my house. Mining is obviously going very, very strong currently and I can't see it ending any time soon (as opposed to 2014...). New paradigm?

Yeah... I'm at 5kw across two 16A breakers. I've had to ban the wife from using hair dryer / vacuum cleaner on certain outlets. We have a third 16A breaker purely for kitchen outlets (kettle, toaster, etc) that I could probably squeeze a 1kw rig onto. But short of that, we are pretty much maxed out.

My main CB is 63A but there is a lot going on behind that - 15A air conditioner, 5A oven etc. I'm not sure what else I can hook up without a serious meter box upgrade.

So, this has me very curious about how much rig wattage my house can take. I have 4 rx 470 rigs pulling between 700-900 watts each in 4 different rooms but i am building a Vega rig to double up in 1 room... it will only have 3 Vega 56's to start so not horribly worried about total wattage in that room, at least not yet.

The thing is, I have no idea about electricity capabilities... are there any general guidelines to go by?  My house is about 13 years old, 1700 SF, 2 story.  Like, how much wattage per outlet? per breaker? per house?  I probably need to hire an electrician for consulting as I would really like to add a 5x Vega and 6x 1070ti rig to my existing setup.  But, any general tips would be appreciated.

As a general rule, if you look at your main breaker box, the BIG breaker at the top will be the "input" breaker and will tell you your total capacity for the house as a whole.

Most common house outlets are 15 amp - but check which ones are on which circuits, most houses have MULTIPLE outlets per circuit on many of the circuits, and usually room lighting on the same circuit as one or more of the "in that room" outlets.
I've seen a LOT of houses where the wiring had outlets in DIFFERENT rooms on the same circuit - the last one I lived in had one circuit that put outlets in 3 different rooms AND room lighting for one of those rooms, but that was an old house with some weird wiring and major issues anyway.

Breakers are marked with their capacities, usually on the handle.

 DO NOT ASSUME 120 VOLTS.
The actual "nominal" voltage in the US is 117 VAC, and it's common to see anywhere from 110 to 119 VAC - I've never actually SEEN a circuit deliver 120 VAC at the outlet, though my current place hits 119.3 or so intermittantly and seems to average right about 119.0

QuintLeo is right on this, don't assume -  I've learned so much from the electricians I've hired and when solar was installed they blew my panel because all the breakers were wired really fucked up at my house. Complete replacement had to be done. I hung over them like a shadow asking so many damn questions I'm sure they weren't happy, but at the end of the day, I'm paying you, you're telling me what I want to know or you're fired lol.

I even bought my own digital clamp meter and another meter and can rewire everything myself now, but thtat digital meter will tell you EXACTLY what you're running, volts amps dropoff resistance, everything. It's pretty much indispensable.
203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: January 01, 2018, 12:37:23 AM
Just curious. When you mine with a 1080ti rig. Do all the cards need to be exactly the same? Say they are all EVGA but a couple are SC, SC2 and a couple FTW3. Would that cause a problem?

All three of my rigs use different 1080 Ti models due to the availability of the cards at the time.  I have one rig with 2 EVGA SC2, 1 EVGA SC, 2 MSI, and 1 ASUS.  Been working just fine.

There's never a problem you can run 1060's 70's , 70Ti, 80's and 80 Tis on the same rig as well - it's just mixing brands will have different clocks which makes optimizing a PITA. if you just ballpark it and set it forget it and don't care then yeah there's no issues.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 31, 2017, 11:46:31 PM
I reached the point  of buying shit like 10 mobos  from alibaba having no room.

Can't get cards easy at the moment.

I am capped out  in the garage (not)  as it is fucking freezing cold in NJ,USA

I could do 20 more cards  on 3 of the new mobos.

Not quite sure what to do.

I am selling coins on coinbase  at 13000 to lower my  schedule D bill.

I moved them in at 16,000  and sold them at 13,000  which helps to lower my short term gains earlier in the year.

I never thought coins would get this good. Grin

That's crazy Phil, I'm actually going to buying a few more BTC if it hits 12k again, I won't be selling any time soon. Going to dump the rest of my Class A Google Stocks Tues and have it sitting ready to buy BTC
205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 2400W Server PSU anywhere? on: December 31, 2017, 05:15:29 AM
I need 4 of these...any one knows where I can buy these ? I can only find it on Centrix/ and other websites affiliated.

Hop in the boat friend. we're all waiting.

206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 31, 2017, 05:07:00 AM
Isn't the pole, along with anything else right up to the point it reaches your meter, the responsibility of the electric company? They should fix it at their expense.... of course who knows how long that might take. :/

Yeah going to start making calls on Tuesday see what happens. Not planning on any more immediate purchases, what I have now will take up the 100A at 240 so I'll sit tight and see what the future brings me. I'm just stuck at what I have now. I have a friend who has a 20k sq foot building that said he'll let me move rigs into, but he's not super reliable and I would have 24/7 access to my rigs and space, so we'll see.

Just seems like it's always something. And it's ... always.... something.
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 31, 2017, 05:03:32 AM
Why are you using 110v?

Those are all 240v my dude - we didn't buy the 240 outlets with the slit because my electrician already had those, and asked if I'd be ok with these, I said hell yeah, because I'm the only one in there, and I'll know not to plug any 120v in those. If someone else does, oh well.
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 12 1080ti Cards, 4 1000w Power Supplies, what Power Strips? on: December 31, 2017, 04:41:50 AM

Current setup:
Rig 1 has six 1080ti cards, two 1,000w power supplies that are connected to two different wall plates.
A second identical rig will be completed this week.

All of the outlets in my mining room are connected to a 20amp breaker.  Typically, how many watts can safely be pulled through one breaker.

safely 16A or roughly 8-10 cards at 75% TDP if you're on 110v
209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: $5K to spend on: December 31, 2017, 04:20:54 AM
You'll make way more throwing it on the coin than mining.

If you want to mine, throw 80-90% on a coin, mine with the other 10-20% in hardware.

Unless you just want a hobby. Then throw all 5k on a rig.
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 31, 2017, 04:12:37 AM
What's so special about that case? Won't a rosewell work just the same and 1/3'd the price?

Also not fucking happy. All day at the warehouse running the new breakers and electric. Found out I don't have 300A or now even 200A, but 1 pole is fucked so I am limited to 100A because a fucked up pole, forgot what the electrician said, but not happy because I'm now at max capacity unless I rewire the entire damn building.

Some things just get better and better.

20A breaker on every outlet. Don't know if it will handle the load though.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

90 rigs is crazy lol, i have 25 , 3 more 1070ti rigs parts and 30 bad gpus laying around on rma
so i could possibly be at 40 rigs but im split btwn two locations 90 rigs is crazy lol

90 rigs over more than 2 years of hardwork from a newbie to semi-newbie now.
Many people to thank esp Phil for his experience, BBT and other miners at MRR and Kano & CK's threads.
Those were the days - where a 750MH ETH farm was like mining like a boss.

Yeah mining in 2018  should be interesting.  I think  buysolar will get  new location 1 ready by june.   and that may be as much as 400 amp x 240 =

96kwatts x .8 = 76.8 kwatts  not factoring the solar cap of 25%  ie   about 17-19kwatts of costless power   and of course  if you go past that  you could go to

75kwatts but you pay for all above the 17-19.

still 19kwatts  is  18 of my spotswood build  about 1050 watts doing 4075 sols

that  would be close to  73000 sols  along with the current 32000 sols

That would be the bees knees there Phil congrats!

I know you're running a few S9's, you wouldn't run more of those in the Solar Array vs GPU's? Just curious what you currently prefer.
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Best PCIE Riser - Expanders on: December 30, 2017, 08:14:20 AM
Mintrcell are a good brand. Avoid the sata only powered ones if you can. And avoid using sata to 6pin adaptors too.

Been using 6pin/sata adapters for a year with 1080 Ti's - and oh yeah, I have 2 1080's per sata strand - not a single problem.

So I'm calling FUD on this one. Proven not an issue by personal experience.
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: December 30, 2017, 07:21:36 AM
Getting any new asics without over paying will be tough.

In fact gpu prices are rising.

Amazon is kind of mostly sold out.
Provantage is short.

Not much  gear to be had at the moment.

I just got a shippment 30 x Zotac GTX-1060s (wanted P106s but got these instead for same price) - unfortunately these are the last pieces on this side of the world from my Zotac supplier.

For now, no more GPUs rigs possible because we maxed out all amps in both warehouse -- close to 90 rigs - without tripping the power. 63A-3Phase-220-240v each warehouse.

All new Asics will remain hosted only.

I may replace the R9-390s with newer GPUs if I can get a good deal for all 25 x 390s -- any takers?

That's fucking awesome man congrats! I've got 200A 208v at my warehouse, I don't see myself maxing it out any time soon even with the new GPU's I bought I'm barely going to be pushing 80A 220v (or 160A 110v)

Anyone know when there will be more available? I emailed the other day but no response from Baikal themselves. Trying to get 10 of them.

10 of what ? they sold out the baikal b and the x10

i imagine the next batches wont be until the b delivers around feb

Wanted some Giant B's - would get 25 of them but just dropped a load on new 1080's and 70's and only expanding another 50k into hardware, whatever the hardware may be. Starting to have buyers remorse lol.

Anyone mining stable Zero on Windows? OptiminerZero just keeps closing out, pausing then says click any key to continue, when I do it' just closes the bat.

One of my favorites - the heat sink is a monster love love love it.

There are some peoople that have complained about the SC2's but for me personally SC's and SC2's are my favorite 1080 Ti's

There's no need for name calling and hate. I understand we're all here to learn from each other and be a community, if the man doesn't want to share he doesn't want to share.

There are a ton of helpful people in the thread and on the board, I for 1 am just thankful to be part of it all here.
