201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: August 25, 2017, 07:19:03 PM
Here is a video of the version in development that will be in beta soonish:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNs6N0EdD8Y

I believe there are a few other videos somewhere. But the fact that this video has existed the whole summer and wasn't even retweeted during the roadmap should give you some confidence. The roadmap is just that, its what is next up for development. GEO has been on Bittrex for years. You dont have to delete anything this isnt about censorship.

You guys should make yourself something like this:

Basically it's just an improvised mount holding one phone very stable over another, so the top one can record video of the bottom one's operation.  Use a bluetooth mouse to control the bottom one.

Sometimes I have clients that want to see what I'm working on, but I can't actually send them the app until they've paid, and they don't want to pay until they see it, so this is how I get that sorted out.   The rig is ugly but they never see it.  Just takes a few minutes, worth the trouble.

Obviously there's screen cap stuff for android but imo it's not very good and this works better.
202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What a bloodbath... on: August 25, 2017, 06:45:02 PM
I agree with this.  When I first got into crypto I was a big fan of the low priced shitcoins.  I would buy hundreds of thousands or millions of each.  Things moved slowly and I was unhappy with them (XVG and DGB are prime examples).  As I have progressed, I sold off all but 2 shitcoins.  The majority of my investments are in 8 coins (2 shitcoins, 6 higher value coins), which currently are all doing very well.  7 of my 8 coins are in the green during the past 24 hours.

I think you're onto something there.  DGB has been especially disappointing.  It looks so promising, slick operation, they've been at it a while, etc... but the chart looks bleak.  Maybe they have too much inflation built into their system?  I dunno, it's dragging my holdings down though.
203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What a bloodbath... on: August 25, 2017, 06:43:07 PM
Current movements in the altcoin markets don't seem too extreme at the moment. These are probably simply 'usual' ups and downs in a trend that still can be considered bullish if you look at a wider timeframe. I'm pretty confident the massive inflow of funds into the cryptomarket will eventually reach most altcoins.

Yeah it's a good time to buy, and that's what I've done for some coins I think are under valued like SC and XLM.

That's helped push my average buy in price down significantly, so hopefully that recovery isn't too far away.

It's ok if it takes a while.  I'm not really as impatient as I sound here, I'm prepared to hang onto all of my holdings to the end of time if that's what it takes to see a return.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: August 25, 2017, 06:31:28 PM
So who exactly is the 2nd party in this script? I understand you are upset but what can be said when you are making up conversations?

2nd party = People I would want to use my app.  I can't send them to Geo's website right now.

I hope you take this is in the best possible way, sometimes the truth hurts but it needs to be said.  Geo needs to work on it's image, right away.  So far it looks like a lot of talk but no actual results.  Let's see the new app, even some screenshots or video of it in use.  Let's see the new Mapbox, even if just as an alpha preview.  Let's see... something.  Roadmap's are cheap and don't mean anything without tangible developments to back them up.  The only thing tangible in Geo's recent history is roadblocks, pump and dumps, delistings and giant leaps backwards.

I have faith that there's more going on than what we can see right now.  That's why I'm still here, and why I'd bother making these posts.  But please... let's see it.  Something.  So far the only good news I've seen is getting listed on Bittrex and that's starting to look like a grab for the money and skedattle for the door.

If you want some help with the website, we can talk about that if you want.  I could probably spearhead some Unity integration too, and indoor positioning with Tango.  But before I'd bother, I need to see something that demonstrates this isn't a dead coin be pumped by devs holding lots of coins so they can liquidate and laugh their way to the bank.

I don't like being this negative, so I'm going to stop posting on this thread until I see some good news.  Best of luck to you Geo team!  PM me if you want me to delete these posts, I will, I'm not trying to FUD the coin down, just get a message through to the dev team.

GeoCoin on smart-contracts it will have public API. It will allow third-party developers to cooperate.
When they will move to smart-contracts it will be evidence of their intentions. And also, basicly, if developers announce a roadmap and follow it, it is a good sign.

Implementation of each step in roadmap will be another big news.

3rd Party Dev -> "Hey I wrote this awesome app that lets you pick up real money with your phone!"

Users -> "Wow, so cool! How do I sign up?"

3rd Party Dev -> "Just go to this sign up link and fill out the form, easy!"

Users -> "My browser is warning me not to, it says it's un-encrypted.   I thought this was a "crypto-coin"?"

3rd Party Dev -> "Uhh... Don't worry about that, it's fine.  Firefox doesn't know **** about security."

Users -> "When I try to login, it's telling me other people could get my password!  Is this secure?"

3rd Party Dev -> "Don't worry, you can't actually withdraw your coin anyways.  This guy's gonna hang onto it for you for now."

(Users back away slowly, never to return.)

-----

The way Geo presents itself now reflects very poorly on me if I were to implement them as a partner in my developments.

They need a new website, a new marketing director, a photographer with professional models, and they need all this roughly two weeks ago.

Are we supposed to believe Facebook would be caught dead hanging out with an operation like this?  Or any serious business?!? Pure BS.
207  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What a bloodbath... on: August 25, 2017, 05:27:09 PM
Jesus I wish that's all my losses were..

Yeah that's the only thing that keeps me from being more bleak about it.  Basically I have nothing in the market, it could all race to the bottom and I don't really care that much.  I can only imagine if I had some real money in it...

Good learning experiment though.  Looks like altcoins are a very, very risky investment.  I'm going to let it ride with my sells in place though and see what catches.  So far I've snagged a few free coins, and that's kinda cool.

FYI my losses have ehhh... gone up quite a bit since I took that screen shot.  Still though, they'll never go up more than $200 so whatever.

Good luck, I hope your reds turn to greens soon!
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Altcoin is falling. Who knows why? on: August 25, 2017, 05:16:30 PM
Yeah DGB has been the pits since I got in.

SC seems like it's trying to recover, I think it'll pick up.

I hope OMG wakes up soon, seems inevitable, that one's going up... but lately it's been kinda sideways.

Cool, I've been thinking about something similar to work out an effective robo-trading process.

Any suggestions where someone could get an archive of historical data for all the coins?

I think you can buy data from CoinMarketCap. Try contacting them directly.

Hmm, hoping to find the data free.  Thanks though, maybe if their rates aren't too ridiculous.
211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What a bloodbath... on: August 25, 2017, 04:37:13 PM
Things are barely moving. Relax and hodl. Tiny movements like these mean absolutely nothing in crypto. Also a lot of my alts are up so I don't know what bloodbath you are even referring to. Anyway, just hodl and chill Smiley

I keep expecting OMG, MCO and PAY to take off but so far no joy.  Well like you say, patience.

I think part of the problem is I made a custom folio viewer for Bittrex using their api, it shows profit/loss, average buy in price, etc differently than theirs does, so it's easier to see exactly which ones are losing money and how much.  Maybe I should switch back to Bittrex's view, so much easier to forget about lost money lol.

212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / What a bloodbath... on: August 25, 2017, 04:26:26 PM
Anyone else getting murdered on altcoins the last 48 hours?

Seems like BTC goes up, alt's go down....

I'm holding, and have snagged a few free coins / profit selling 90% at +20%, but lately my folio is looking like a sea of red.

Do alts eventually regain lost value from BTC appreciation?  Or is it a one way street, BTC up, Alts down?

So far, BAT, VIA, CFI seem to be gaining despite the trends in my other holdings.

I'm really disappointed in Dash.  I was expecting great things for that with it's diff rate constantly reaching new heights but so far it doesn't seem like diff is actually making much of an impact on it's price.
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: August 25, 2017, 09:01:57 AM
So far Dash value is not going up with Dash diff.  There was a bit of a spike earlier this week but the two are not moving in sync.

Advice to developers of third-party applications: get accustomed to the GeoCoin API, you can create a lot of impressive applications  Shocked

Developer here.

No thanks.

Until I see evidence that Geo exists and has a future, why would I waste my time on vaporware?

I'm supposed to make an app that lets people harvest coins they can't even withdraw?  That's a laughably bad idea.
215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: GeoCoin - The New Revolution of The First CryptoGame on: August 25, 2017, 12:22:34 AM
website is just a huge map. looks like shitcoin to me.

That's a map of GEO coins you can pick up with your phone.

Soon you'll be able to attach other types of coins to geocoins so you can pick them up too.

Businesses will be able to create their own coin, buy geocoins so they can be GIS placed and picked up by customers, and randomly distributed around their attractions.

GEO is going to be huge.

Sorry you haven't been around long enough to know I don't touch altcoins ever for anything.

Ah, well now I know.

I'm going to chalk that one up under 'things I'm going to give careful consideration'.

They do seem like a 'highly volatile market' to say the least.

ck, about my previous post re: robotrader

This looks pretty straightforward, maybe something like this?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1715214.msg17180502#msg17180502

I'm working on something similar now for Bittrex.

Hi all

Thanks for all the hard work and amazing progress GEO devs!

When can we expect to see:

* New Mapbox?
* Beta/Alpha Android/iOS app?
* Withdraws restored?

Thanks

Hey -ck, thinking about the 'how do you draw in miners when there aren't enough miners to draw in new miners' problem...

This is a kinda weird idea... but I think you have the programming chops to make something like this work.

First, write an automatic shitcoin daytrader script.  It buys low, sells high, etc.  Automagically makes money, or at least tries.  Hopefully, it works.  I actually think this wouldn't be as impossible as it sounds, with a careful approach.

Second, take half the profit from the last months worth of robotrading, and once per hour, award a portion of those profits to the current active miners.  The more TH they bring, the higher a portion of the robotrade coin they get.

Then take the other half of the robotrade profit and put it back into the algorithm to cover unavoidable losses and grow the profit it can generate.

Once a month, liquidate it's holdings, retain it's initial buy-in plus accumulated profits plus half the new profits and start over

Otherwise, change nothing about the payout structure.  This would just be an incentive, the actual amount paid out to people would vary, and theoretically could someday be more than actually mining.
220  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: August 24, 2017, 05:58:27 AM
Has anyone bought from Bitmain before? How long is the shipping from China?

Many people have, allegedly most have a decent experience with it.

Personally, it's been a ****ing nightmare for me, 7 weeks ago I placed my order and wired them the money, my order is still marked 'unpaid', 'expired' and 'unshipped'.

I nag their support staff daily, no effect.  They just pop in every two weeks or so and ask me for the same transaction info that I already gave them.  It's absurd.

I would not recommend Bitmain.  Your mileage may vary, good luck.

Before you place your order, look in their support section under 'Why hasn't my payment been confirmed yet?'.  Notice the 8 pages of extremely upset customers from the last two months with essentially the same complaint as myself.
