.........

Some of these comments are cancer. Really some of you need better things to do with your time then to come in and bash a thread like this. I also have pondered this as it is the like major gating factor in profits for mining (*shakes head* Idiots). Iv'e also come up with a grey area legal method of tricking out a meter from not recording a defined circuit.

I guess I don't really know how to respond. Folks come to these forums all the time with claims of "free electricity", with dreams of riches in their head. I just wanted to make sure the original poster was aware of the risks associated with this. If that's "cancer", then I will happily move along and never comment here again.

Sorry to have clouded things here with a dose of reality.

Well that's all well and good if you wish to have the appearance of a parent pointing a finger at a child and scolding them. I read the OP as he probably understood all those risks BEFORE he took the action of setting it up. Since its already set up , we would have to assume he's done that due duty no?

In any case. I DO know how to get free electricity. Its grey area not really illegal. PM me if anyone's interested.

"It's all our responsibility to behave sensibly if we want bitcoin
to flourish."------Can't agree more, thank you so much for the contribution.

One problem. It doesn't matter anymore. Companies like KNC and BITMAIN are so far established right now. These are likely multi-million dollar companies who could give a s*** less what we think.

I was told by KNC they don't even plan on selling hardware at a consumer level anymore. They are designing new hardware and not release it to the public. Read about their new 3D chip that promises to drop electricity cost by 1000%. They don't plan on releasing that to the public. If they release a chip that is that power efficient... they will be the only name in mining.
209  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Covert Mining in "Ant Hole" on: June 23, 2015, 06:43:51 PM
Haha. Probably gonna get discovered and fired soon. In any case, good luck!

Could be pretty hard / impossible to prove it was him.

Unless he is the only bitcoiner in the office and goes on about bitcoin than gg.

Here in the US, the bar for firing somebody is pretty low. Proof generally isn't required. Plan on losing your mining hardware as well, unless you want to claim it, then it's owner is no longer in doubt, is it? In many companies office supply "theft" is better tolerated at a small scan than Bitcoin mining.

Well OBVIOUSLY if he claimed the hardware was his they'd know it was him..........................................................  why in the shits would someone do that.. That comment I..

If no one in his office knows he is into bitcoin how would one think it was him?

He is taking a risk..

Free power with the risk of losing your hardware.

Looking to sell my EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0. This card has been amazing for the time iv'e owned it! Looking to upgrade to a titan X.

I would be mostly interested in the BTC value of this card. But i also would accept trades for pc hardware or even miners. Really need an S4+ right now. Card goes for 500$ new.

I'll start us off at 425$ in btc.

Sale motherboard, CPU and RAM memory from my computer.
The computer that I built for myself (by careful selection of components which, in combination, provide its maximum performance and functionality) is in the top fastest computer on the planet (see the test results made in the latest version fairly comprehensive benchmark programs AIDA (formerly Everest). You will see that is mainly among the three fastest computers in the world and in front of it (when they are faster) are essentially the most powerful Intel and AMD servers with more cores. In some tests, even them wins. Results for this my beast are presented in bold. I am components mainly bought in Germany  (I have all accounts and warranty up to a few years - depending on the component). I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina, entity Republic of Serbian.
     The configuration consists of:
 - Motherboard ASUS X-79 DELUXE, Intel® Socket 2011 Core ™ i7 Extreme Edition / Core ™ i7 Processor. On the motherboard can go up to 128 GB of RAM at 2800 MHz in quad-channel mode. Motherboard has an excellent overclocking potential and maximum of all possible modern technology and therefore has the epithet DELUXE. More on: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X79DELUXE/
 - Processor Intel Core i7-4930K, socket 2011, 6 physical cores + 6 virtual = 12  total. Processor Speed 3.4 - 3.9 GHz
 - RAM Memory Corsair Dominator Platinum 32 GB (4 x 8 DDR3 2400 MHz), CAS 10
I accepted the  LTC  or  BTC or wire bank transfer. Price $ 1300.

Hey is it possible for you to split these up? I would not run 1866 ram with a 4930K. I would go 2400 Minimum. If breaking up the sale is a possibility let me know asking for the cpu+mobo

I second this. I would be interested too but obviously anyone who stands to lose 20% for no good reason is trying to pull something?
216  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Miners - Great Price. Need gone NOW on: June 22, 2015, 09:32:37 PM
i have replied to everyone so far. I'll update the OP as needed until everything is gone.

Thank You.

I see these are your first two posts with the forums. Welcome to the forums! Any wiggle room on those s5's? They are a bit cheaper brand new... my offer would be pretty in line with what kingcolex offered.

Everyone who wishes to purchase make sure to use escrow!
217  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Bitcoin Hashrate Predictions/Investment Calculator **UPDATE BETA 1 RELEASE** on: June 22, 2015, 02:31:04 PM
Love the beta version - really looks great and you can see the potential this has when weighing things out, anyone serious (or thinking about being serious) about mining would be foolish not to pick it up.

Anyway, right now it's specific to the S5, which is fine, since that's what I have, but what I would love to see is another tab that would be Equipment, and on that break out several different devices.  Imagine each column is a different device, and the rows would be:

Name
Cost
Hash Rate
Power Consumption
GHash/Watt (derived)

Amount (number of devices)

This way you could have columns for S1, Neptune, SP20e, etc - you would fill in the amount of each type of device you'd have, and then it would fill in Revenue sheet, which would be just like your Investment sheet, but instead of deriving devices from a Target monthly income, you could see stats related to actual operations of a diverse deployment.

One other thing you might consider is all of the secondary costs these devices have.  For instance, on a basic model I built before, I also include PSU's, PDU's, Racks and Switches - those are pretty much the key things you'll be buying.  I also included a number of devices per type; so is was 1 PSU to 5 S5's (I use the IBM 2880w power supplies), 16 S5's per switch (24 port switch, other ports for uplink and PDU), and 10 S5's per 30A PDU (240v).  When you start adding these up, they can gobble up a fair bit of money, although most (if not all) will be fine for the life of the mine, as opposed to the miner that will be upgraded at some point.

One other thing you'll probably want to consider for the longer-term forecasting will be the reward halving that will happen next year, as it will certainly affect the economics of mining...  You also have the average difficulty increase, but you might want to add something to account for bitcoin's value also rising over that period.

Which brings me to my final suggestion - the same way you modeled out Network Difficulty, it would be super awesome if you did that for the price of BTC.  This way you could at least maybe make some long-term predictions - all of this is guesswork, but even a guess is better than no idea at all.  Wink

Mark,

Thanks for the feedback its much appreciated! I like the ideas and I do plan to add custom configs for different equipment. Once I get additional equipment spec'd out I will delve into the fixed costs of each different hardware (power supplies, switches). I do plan to add predictions for btc price moving into the future. I really wanted to get the calculator added.. and now that its there I can switch gears and get back to the predictions side of things.

Stay tuned this week for beta 2!
218  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What kind of miners do you have now on: June 21, 2015, 04:34:19 AM
I had 3 S3's that I sold and bought an S5 with. I'm looking at getting another S5 and then probably an S4+ two would be amazing Tongue .

Check out my thread for ROI here guys if you ever question what S5's will do in your area.

You can use any Intel 1150 CPU heatsink. It has to be a large aftermarket copper one however since they use at least 150 Watts.

What about aluminum stock Intel provides?  The core might be copper.  Anyhow what did you honestly save in shipping considering you now need 200-400$ in copper just to re-sink these boards.
