The community could keep the project alive, but without a genius mind like Vitalik Buterin, ETH will be one step behind of its rivals. At least, that's the way I see it. But I could be wrong. For some reason, Elon Musk stopped tweeting about DOGE and even Bitcoin, making people lose interest in crypto these days.
