Russian Crypto News Outlet Shook Down by the Ukrainian Security Service

According to the owner of the Russian cryptocurrency news outlet Forklog, Anatoly Kaplan, his media firm is being harassed by Ukrainian law enforcement officials. On December 15, agents from the Ukrainian Security Service (SSU) searched both Kaplan’s apartment and the Forklog offices in Odessa for an alleged association with U.S. nationals committing criminal activities.

Russian Cryptocurrency Media Outlet Forklog Says the Ukrainian Security Service Committed Unlawful Acts Against the Company
The Ukrainian Security Service (SSU) is a law enforcement entity that specializes in terrorism investigations, and counterintelligence activity. According to Mr. Kaplan owner of the regional cryptocurrency news publication, Forklog, agents revealed they were looking for clues in connection with a group of Ukrainians and U.S. nationals committing financial fraud. The SSU explained to Forklog representatives that the suspects used Forklog to exchange bitcoin for the national currency hryvna. Mr. Kaplan and the Russian media organization believe the search was “unwarranted,” as neither Forklog nor sites associated with the website have ever provided these types of services. “Forklog doesn’t even have software that provides such services,” Mr. Kaplan tells new.Bitcoin.com.

SK Regulator Fines Exchange Operator Bithumb 60 Million Won for Leaking Customer Data

The Korea Communications Commission has fined the operator of Bithumb, South Korea’s largest bitcoin exchange, for leaking users’ private data. This marks the first time the country’s government has taken punitive steps against a cryptocurrency exchange.

First Punitive Action Against Crypto Exchange
South Korea’s Communications Commission (KCC) held a meeting on Tuesday to inform BTC Korea.com of penalties imposed on the company “for allegedly leaking the private data of its users,” Yonhap reported. Citing this case as “the first time that South Korea has taken punitive steps against an operator of a cryptocurrency exchange,” the publication elaborated:

The Korea Communications Commission decided to impose fines totaling 60 million won ($54,970) on BTC Korea.com, the operator of Bithumb, the largest bitcoin and ethereum digital currency exchange in South Korea, for its alleged negligence in the protection of its users’ information.
The agency has also recommended punishment of responsible persons at the exchange, the news outlet detailed. In addition, the KCC mandates the company to establish measures to ensure no further violations occur in the future.

Bitcoin cash has been gaining more support from within the automated teller machine ecosystem after a few companies revealed the digital asset would be integrated into their machine’s software. Now, this past week the bitcoin cash (BCH) community got more infrastructure endorsement from the ATM manufacturer Lamassu as the firm announced BCH support has been implemented into their machines.

Lamassu was founded by two brothers named Zach and Josh Harvey back in 2013. According to the company’s geolocation map, there are roughly 268 Lamassu machines spread all over the world. 211  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What is wrong with Kraken? on: December 09, 2017, 02:32:35 AM
Haven't been able to log in for weeks. Either it says "Invalid login", or it accepts the login and then gives me a 520 error.

Based on what I've read earlier on a bitcoin news, Kraken trading engine is now a piece of crap and the site is prone to crashing due to high volume at any given moment. And they also says that the company is working to remedy these problems. But If you like your exchanges humorless and corporate, i would suggest you to use Bitfinex.

Exchanges overloaded. DDoS attacks. Huge price spikes, flash crashes, and order cancellations. Over 200k transactions queued, some for more than 24 hours, in the mempool – despite paying high fees. Just another crazy day in bitcoin, a land where every day seems to be wilder than the last, including higher highs, bigger swings, and record-breaking numbers across the board.

Are You Not Entertained?
200,000 Unconfirmed Transactions Pile Up in Another Crazy Day for BitcoinAmidst all the frenzy over the price of bitcoin, it’s easy to overlook its use as a means of exchange that hundreds of thousands of people rely on. The digital currency’s dollar value has grabbed most of the headlines, but behind the scenes there’s been another story: one of a huge backlog that’s seen bitcoin become temporarily non-transactable.

Within the last 24 hours, total bitcoin trading volume has neared $29 billion, a five-fold increase on the same time last month. Bitcoin trading on exchanges doesn’t impact on the blockchain itself because all of the action takes place off-chain. Nevertheless, the record demand for the cryptocurrency and huge trading volume indirectly takes its toll, as users wait to send money in and out of exchanges. If bitcoin mania continues at its current rate, it won’t be long before the 24-hour trading volume exceeds the $50 billion daily average set by the New York Stock Exchange.

218  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-12-07]Apple Pay Cash Launches as Users and Developers Turn to Bitcoin on: December 07, 2017, 12:20:44 AM
Apple is one of the most successful companies in the history of Silicon Valley, revolutionizing and dominating market after market from graphic design to music and mobile phones. It is also one of the most powerful companies in the world right now, expected to be the first to reach a trillion dollar market cap. As such, one might expect Apple Pay Cash to obliterate the competition, but bitcoin can change that.

This Tuesday Apple Pay Cash and person to person payments were made available to Apple customers in the US. The company promotes this service as the simplest way to make person to person payments on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

Users can now get paid right within iMessage, or by just asking Siri to pay someone. They can use the debit and credit cards they already have added to Apple Pay, so there’s no need to install an app or create another account.

While most analysts see this as a response from Apple to Venmo or Square’s Cash App, it is hard to believe Apple hasn’t also noticed the millions of bitcoin wallet apps downloaded recently. It’s easy for some of us to forget these days that the cryptocurrency wasn’t created just to store value but also to act as a P2P cash system.

Tim Draper Advises Argentina's President to Invest in Bitcoin

Reports state that Mr. Draper wore a tie donned with the bitcoin logo throughout his Argentinian trip. Mr. Draper described bitcoin as “a social transformation” and “a new form of global currency” to local media. Although Mr. Draper conceded that “there is still a long way to go” regarding cryptocurrencies, he stated that bitcoin “is already a valuable part of society,” adding that “If the local currency implodes, as it once did here, whoever has bitcoins will be fine.”

Local media has stated that during a private meeting with Marcos Pena, Mr. Draper advised that distributed ledger technology (DLT) can be used as means to “end bureaucracy,” describing such as having the potential to give Argentina a competitive edge “at a time when all governments are competing with each other.” Mr. Draper used the “agri-food sector” as an example, stating that the application of “new technologies” including “bitcoin [and] blockchain] could render Argentina “a world leader” in the industry.
