202  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is "cryptocurrency" a good term? on: January 27, 2018, 07:20:57 AM
Recently I've started thinking that the word "cryptocurrency" does a pretty poor job at describing what it's all about. The "crypto" part does not describe the main properties - decentralization and openness, cryptography is simply a tool for achieving them, and doesn't necessarily bring those properties. "Currency" is a pretty narrow economic term, which refers to money in active circulation, but in our case we have digital units that can have many use cases and most notably they allow building applications on top of them. The "currency" part is also used by opponents to claim that they are in fact inherently worthless by pointing out their high volatility and lack of scalability - two factors that indeed make them almost unusable for daily transactions for average user at the moment.

Thoughts?

Do we always have to name something based on its properties?

Bitcoin was intended to be a storage of value that can replace Fiat money - hence it is called a currency.
Bitcoin is based on cryptography so it called a crypto-currency.

Let me give you an example.
Bicycle. Cycle - means round. Bi - means two or dual.
Bicycles were fast, at least, when they were first invented, they were the fastest mode of transport for man.
They were made of wood and/or metal.

So what do we call them? Do we call them fastmetalcycle? Do we call them bifastwood or biquickwoodcycle?

When naming things, people do NOT have to consider all qualities and functions of that thing.

An interesting read, although I must say that I really cannot completely grasp this cause I am not a programmer.
204  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What should be done to eliminate corruption? on: January 26, 2018, 04:10:06 PM
Corruption starts at home. Almost every problem can be resolved by one thing - responsible parenting.
Almost every one in the world now is raised thru passive parenting.
205  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is the main goal of human is happiness? on: January 26, 2018, 04:02:59 PM
It is not. It is evolution. To be perfect. Or at least to be almost perfect. To become better and better until perfection .
Happiness was just commercialized.

208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum in 5 years on: January 25, 2018, 09:09:38 PM
People say Eth can go to $7000 this 2018. What do you think?
Just one downside to this is 0.001 Eth would be worth a lot in USD just like what happened to Bitcoin.

209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: January 25, 2018, 09:07:37 PM
All anon coins are great. Even if you are not doing anything illegal, privacy is still a must. Our privacy is sacred. And the gov is not allowed to violate that.
If govs make it illegal for people to use anon coins? Then let us make it even more anon so that they wouldn't know about it in the first place.
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: WaBi Hold or sell? on: January 25, 2018, 09:02:06 PM

214  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buying Coins on: January 25, 2018, 06:58:55 PM

Isn't there anything like this for a desktop user like me?
Most people are still old-fashioned.

217  Other / Politics & Society / Re: what is the definition of success? on: January 25, 2018, 11:56:48 AM
Success is being where you want to be.
That might be marrying the love of you life or getting that dream job.
Could be having millions of dollars in your bank account or could be recovering from a deadly disease.
218  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Seriously, smartphones will die within 10 years. on: January 25, 2018, 11:54:17 AM
First, most of forum members have internet access at home. Some still go to internet-cafe.
Second, smartphone is spying satan compared to basic phones or feature phones.
Third, feature phone browser is enough when on-the-go.
Fourth, buy a tablet or PDA when you must review documents or do something business-related on the go.
Fifth, many Wi-Fi hotspots are for monetization and making money.

That's why smartphones will die in 10 years, we will start again to use basic phones and make street internet great again. For example free or paid internet shed and telephone shed. For example London is getting uglier (no phone sheds) due to mobile phone revolution. I suggest everyone if you want to join the protest switch to basic phone for 3 days.

I beg to disagree. Most people are stupid and dumb. They couldn't live without their phones.
Idiots are spending most of their waking hours staring down at their phones.
219  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Decrease Population on: January 25, 2018, 11:50:15 AM
I have recently seen this movie called What Happened to Monday.

It tackled overpopulation. Each couple is only allowed to have 1 child. If a family is caught to have more than 1 child, the younger children will then be killed.

How to reduce population?
I think this is the wrong question.
The proper question is, how to reduce the population growth rate?
And I wouldn't bother answering that one right now.
220  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hypnosis on: January 25, 2018, 11:44:40 AM
What do you think about hypnosis, have you ever been in a state of hypnosis or trance. And do you believe in all this? Who do you think is the best specialist in the field of hypnosis from now on?

Yes, I have been on a trance. In fact, you and me, all of us have been in a trance at least once in our life.
Trance is a state of mind where is your concentration is deeper than usual.

When you are absorbed in doing something, like playing a game, listening to your beloved music, you enter a trance state.
