and Now your account is worthless as people will now it has been sold. Sold accounts are usually used for schills or scamming via trades or loans.

Not sure that's true. Some months ago...maybe a year ago...members of this forum used to go around trying to neg trust account sellers and sold accounts. I don't really see that anymore. I don't think anyone cares at this point.
202  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Cost of Bitcointalk Accounts. on: June 24, 2015, 09:12:57 PM
Why are Legendary Members only worth 1-2 BTC? A Legendary Member can make over 6 BTC in 1 year on a good signature campaign. Seems stupid that somebody would dedicate themselves to the forum for 3 years to become a Legendary Member & then sell the account for a measly 1 BTC.
I presume it's very rare to see a Legendary Member sell their account?

If you look closely at this thread you'll see that people are shouting prices at each other left and right and it's really not clear where any of the data comes from.  Just like you said, some of the prices are surprisingly low, but others by other posters are surprisingly high (who would by a Jr. account for any price?).  I think the best thing to do is to figure that this thread is basically who are buying/selling to shout their price a bit to see if they can manipulate the market.  What else can it be without any real data?

There is real data -- it's just not a liquid market. So while you may see one Hero Member sold at 0.45 BTC, you are unlikely do find another. So this really isn't a good indicator of price. I think when BTC turns bullish again, we will see renewed interest in the forum and in buying accounts. Maybe then, we will see more liquidity.

I don't know how you can know any data about this sort of thing unless you are:

1) an escrow who does the trades
2) a buyer
3) a seller

Even if you are one of these three because of the anonymity allowed here it's never clear who you're actually dealing with.  You could easily be an escrow and also be a buyer and a seller would never know better.  Even if you are one of these three you still don't know what other people's deals look like because everything is done in secret.  You say there is data, but I don't se how any of the people saying "look here", or "here's my list" can be counted as offering verifiable data.

You are correct -- an outsider could never confirm the actual deal (account details + BTC transaction). But we do see haggling, as well as deals agreed to in some threads (sometimes the escrow even posts in thread). And obviously those that are involved in the market know what prices they have bought and sold for. We can also see the open bids and asks, if you will.

Obviously people decide what they are willing to accept or pay for an account based on their perception of the market. We don't see Jr Members for 1 BTC. We don't see Legendary Members for 0.01 BTC. So clearly, we can read into the market to some extent.

can a pro rate my account?
i dont mind to sell it
but it would be cool to know how much my account worth is?
 Cool

I'm a pro, I swear. Cheesy

I would put it at 0.13. A few weeks closer to Sr. Member and bit better trust feedback would get it to 0.15 maybe. But I'm not really in the market right now. Smiley

I truly believe that we are at huge lows in 1) interest in bitcoin and therefore 2) interest in bitcointalk. Further, this lack of interest begets less constructive discussion on the forum and therefore less opportunity to make money by posting.

I think that BTCUSD will turn bullish -- not sure when -- and then interest in both accumulating bitcoin and frequenting bitcointalk will return. And then people will be racing to accumulate. I think this will prompt a return to the demand for accounts that we saw 6 months or a year ago.
205  Economy / Digital goods / Re: Amazon gift cards on: June 23, 2015, 08:58:06 PM
yes and you need to give back your goods.
its like the police finds out you bought a stolen car.you cant keep it ...even though you bought it^^

What? Never heard of that. That's crazy. The reason online marketplaces allow the buying and selling of gift cards is because it's completely legal and ostensibly legitimate. Do fraudulently acquired cards make their way into that market? You betcha. But that ain't my fault, as a legitimate buyer.

Amazon accepted the payment in the form of gift cards. They can't try to claw back money from you.
206  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to get legit free btc? on: June 23, 2015, 06:22:00 PM
So Im obviously really new here. I`ll be editing my journey to btc, as I`m new to all this..

I saw and read a bunch of threads like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1006151.0

only to find limited to some options, but cant do some cause im obviously new to join a campaign.

Welcome
My advice would be to use faucet first. Get ANY bitcoin, send it somewhere, see how it works, its best learning experience.

good advice:
practice makes perfect.
And you can practice with little amounts.
investing little amounts of money like less than 0.1 wouldnt even give you any profit, it would be hard to make a roi with such small amount of bitcoins

0.1 is more than enough to buy a full member that will be 2 months to become hero

If you don't get scammed you may have ROI before the first month

2 months to become Hero? I haven't seen any Full Members on the market that have that much activity potential. Mostly just potential Senior Members. Yes, I lurk in the Digital Goods forum. Cheesy But Seniors can do pretty well. Wink
207  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Exchange btc into cash on: June 23, 2015, 05:42:31 PM
^^ Agree, love Localbitcoins. Always sell with a mark-up, and make a bit of extra cash on top. Cool

but the fees are too high though especially if dealing with a reputable member

Agreed. But shop around -- particularly if you live in a city, you can often buy/sell at spot to reputable members if you are trading above certain volume thresholds. Also, you should consider getting some reputation yourself -- that way, you can charge a premium, and customers will come to you.

Also, if doing cash deals, you don't need Localbitcoins escrow, obviously. So you can just cancel the deal and save on the fees.
208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Didn't Satoshi Think About Instant Transactions? on: June 23, 2015, 05:37:38 PM
The problem is with vendors/sites that force you to wait for multiple confirmations -- the worst are ones that still make you wait for 6 confirmations. I could see it if we were still in 2010... but zero confirmation transactions should be the norm. See: Bitpay.
209  Economy / Economics / Re: Let's Be Honest. We Are Waiting for $100/BTC to buy on: June 22, 2015, 12:33:28 AM
Wasn´t there supposed to be a Bitcoin ETF coming to Wall St.? That should create some attention and trading interest. Wonder how that process is going. Good luck, g

Probably won't happen for another year or two, at least, if I had to guess. The SEC does not move lightly. The copper ETF took years to get approved. They will probably watch and wait based on what other regulatory bodies do. Maybe 2017.
210  Economy / Speculation / Re: KNC moved all of their 9000+ BTC Today on: June 22, 2015, 12:31:18 AM
not sure if its for their sell off, or for their exchange they launched?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1064294.0 is that them as well?

It's a sell off. Read the entire thread.

The market did the exact opposite, for the record.

People, it's pointless to watch people move coins around on the blockchain to make buying and selling decisions. It's even more pointless to listen to advice from people who may or may not have ulterior motives when posting. Listen to what the market says about itself, not what others say about the market.

Good points. People can bag on technical analysis all they want -- but basing buying/selling decisions on blockchain analysis -- days destroyed, perceived "whale" movements -- that's simply insane. I stick to price action.
211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: newbie restrictions on: June 22, 2015, 12:28:37 AM
In fact these restrictions are used to prevent newbie spammers from spamming this forum. After your rank and activity increases, the restrictions will be less harsh, and eventually you can make a post per 4 seconds (when your activity count reaches 500).

One post per 4 seconds -- sounds a bit spammy. Tongue

I miss the days of the newbie subforum. The forum was a bit more of a zoo back a couple years ago. Hopefully bitcoin turns bullish this year and it becomes more of a zoo once again. Cheesy
212  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: June 21, 2015, 11:45:53 PM
I recently pulled all funds off of Okcoin.cn and Okcoin.com. There is a lot of shadiness surrounding them, allegations of improper security protocols and using market maker bots that naked long/short.

Has there been any news on this stuff since the Roger Ver controversy happened? I know there were rumors, but it seems there was never anything confirmed. I have noticed, though, that liquidity appears to be suffering on Okcoin -- probably as a result of these rumors.
213  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTS] Full/Senior/Hero Member Accounts on: June 21, 2015, 11:43:11 PM
Prices is too much based on the current market of forum accounts

Maybe, maybe not. This is not the most liquid market. It's not as if there are bidders and sellers lined up on each side. For the last several weeks, sellers were snatching up any offer that came. For the first time, it seems that sellers are refusing to sell at the "current" market prices. So you may find prices will go up accordingly.
214  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Buying bitcointalk senior account on: June 21, 2015, 07:11:44 PM
Define "cheap price"? Wink
Sent you a pm, check your inbox

i am looking to buy for ~0.15BTC

0.15??  One or two years to get a Sr member and now you post 80 or 90 times and get it for free??
Hehe something wrong...

Wut? It doesn't take one or two years to get a Senior. I think it's around eight months and a Hero is double that. People are selling accounts too cheap but I guess thats because there's so many of them and more become available every day probably.

That's the logic that is offered by those who deem this a perma-bearish market. What they don't account for is the fact that only a tiny minority of accounts are ever sold. This logic that the supply of accounts is constantly increasing in a huge way isn't accurate; most accounts on the forum never become part of the supply.

Just ask the guy who keeps bumping that [WTB] Hero Member thread.
215  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Exchange btc into cash on: June 21, 2015, 01:08:19 AM
Hi guys, I recently made some btc and I'm looking turn it into cash, in cad to be specific. Before the rates are very high, do you guys know any ways that can do this for me with a low rate? Thanks, please suggest Smiley

My preference is always Localbitcoins. I just sell the coins for cold hard cash, and usually, I even charge a premium (and the buyer is more than happy to pay it). This depends on where you live though. I live in a busy metropolitan area. YMMV.
216  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: GROUP ACTION: CRYPTSY EXHANGE NEGLIGENCE - TAKE ACTION on: June 21, 2015, 01:06:41 AM
Cryptsy has been a very dodgy exchange since the beginning. Best to avoid them altogether.

I've stayed away from them ever since November 2013. At the time, they were taking 12-24 hours to credit deposits, not responding to customers ... and the engine was simply horrible. I've kept an eye on them ever since, and they never improved.
217  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 21, 2015, 01:04:03 AM
Sideways all summer, see you in September.

What makes you think that? My thinking has been that the breakout this month of BTC and LTC are (hopefully) signalling the return of volatility to these markets.

just follow LTC. this thing is gonna moon.

it is just a pump because of the incoming halving. wait some weeks and see it struggling to be above $1.

LTC won't cause BTC to go up

All I know is that alts have been pumpy for months now. And LTC lead BTC on every leg of this recent rally. Much bigger gains than BTC too. So maybe it's just a pump and dump for the halving... but we will see.
218  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Cost of Bitcointalk Accounts. on: June 20, 2015, 09:49:34 AM
can the mods/admins recover the posts to whatever they were before they were edited? if so this wouldnt be as effective in the case of a through examination, if not, thats an incredibly through way to take ownership of an account.

My recollection from some thread in Meta a while back is that Theymos can indeed recover posts that were deleted, but cannot recover PMs that have been deleted. I may be remembering wrong. But I'm pretty sure.
219  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 20, 2015, 02:19:52 AM
Greek millionaires are as likely to plow their cash into rare pokemon cards as they are into bitcoin.

I'm pretty sure those with real money in Greece got most of their assets out of the country quite some time ago. I've heard they have bought up quite a lot of real estate in Berlin, for instance.

If you got money, you think ahead. And yeah, they aren't buying bitcoin. Cheesy
220  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Cost of Bitcointalk Accounts. on: June 20, 2015, 02:17:10 AM
so does it basically come down to who can provide a signed message from an address posted further back in time? in the case of the recently posted address for instance.

it is a proof of ownership, if a seller can prove that he own the account, then the buyer is safe for the possible retrieval attempt

Consider this hypothetical: An account is dormant for a few months. It is hacked, the hacker posts an address, and then sells it a couple months later. The account is then recovered by the original owner, who can sign a message from a post made a year ago.
