201  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Need firewall help: which ports can I allow to access miners? on: March 24, 2018, 01:39:48 AM
nstalling a firewall. What ports and IPs should be allowed to access the miners?

If you have a firewall then you should be able to set up a VPN. Once that's done you connect to the VPN from your phone, laptop, desktop, etc and **then** connect to the miners.
202  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Notes from my journey to Beijing & visiting Canaan Creative in March 10-15, 2018 on: March 23, 2018, 09:13:53 PM
I hope the Canaan folks are still reading this thread because I want to reiterate what the others have said. This genuine concern for the customer is almost non-existent in *any* industry, not just miners. This cements my decision to buy Avalons the next time I am ready to purchase!
203  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T9+ problem on: March 21, 2018, 03:12:42 AM
Ok, I gave it another go on 240V, (actually reads 248 v and stable).  I did a baseline run, no changes, same result as before, 3 is missing and 11 and 12 read zero.  I reset the T9+ per Eastshore's recommendation, no change.  I then ran it with each of one board's power removed; once with board 1 removed, board 2 removed then board 3 removed.  In every case 3 was missing and 11 and 12 read zero unless they were missing.  Interestingly when the middle board's power was removed exactly 3, 11 and 12 were missing and all of the other chains had readings:

2nd board power removed:

It looks to me like board 2 consists of 3, 11 and 12 and it appears bad to me.  I have not reloaded the firmware yet, probably the next thing to do but I'm not thinking that is the issue...

Thoughts?

I'd grab a digital voltmeter and test the PSU while your at it. I'll see if I can find the posts (search for PSU test), but it would be a good thing to do to rule out bad PSU or wiring.
204  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer S9 wont connect with my computer but will with others. on: March 19, 2018, 01:25:06 AM
yeah i have been scratching my head over this for two days now.  yes the are on the same default gateway.  both laptops are wireless and the antminer is wired.  the only thing i havent tried is factory resetting the antminer.  i kinda dont want to do that because its currently mining and if i reset it and then i cant get to the backend then i wont be able to set it up.

I'd plug my laptop in to the same switch the miner is plugged in to, grab a wired IP and go from there. I know you've talked about IPs, but did you by chance have it bookmarked by name? I'd kill the bookmark and for good measure do an ipconfig /flushdns from an admin command prompt.
205  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Sourcing lowest electric prices on: March 19, 2018, 12:49:15 AM
Anyone know how to look up where has the lowest prices for electric? I've found a few sites, but nothing that seemed concrete. Looking to set up a bigger farm nearby, and want to suss out the best locations.

Cheers.

Not sure where you are, but in my area I user powertochoose.org

206  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer S9 wont connect with my computer but will with others. on: March 19, 2018, 12:25:19 AM
yeah i tried disabling the antivirus that didnt work.  my pc ip address is 192.168.1.66 the antminer is 192.168.1.123 and my friends computer ip address is 192.168.1.140 all of them have subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 so we are all on the same network i can ping my friends computer he can ping mine but he can ping the antminer and i cant.  its so weird. ive also tried switching my ip address to a static ip and that had no effect.

Interesting, same default gateway? I assume so, but ya never know.

Wireless vs. wired?
207  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer S9 wont connect with my computer but will with others. on: March 18, 2018, 08:40:20 PM
thanks for your comment but obviously if i can ping and access it from another computer using the same ip address it did not change.  besides that i checked my router and it still has the same ip address in the table.

Also make a note of what the miner's IP is and what your computer's IP is. What IP did your friend get?

208  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T9+ problem on: March 18, 2018, 08:29:35 PM

Are you running it on 110v or 220v?

I'm using 110V.

Pretty sure that's your problem even if it's not you *need* to run it on 220v. That PSU isn't working correctly on 110v. That miner runs at 1432 watts, and that PSU can only put out around 1200 watts on 110.

The APW3++ can deliver a maximum power of only 1200W if it is connected to a 110V mains power supply. To obtain the rated power of 1600W, the APW3++ must be connected to a 220-240V mains power supply.
209  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T9+ problem on: March 18, 2018, 06:47:46 PM
Thanks for the feedback.  I'm going to put it back in its original location and see if that doesn't help.  I read somewhere that the power circuit (wall socket) needs to be able to handle the current so maybe that is it.

Yrth - I'm going to show my lack of understanding here but how did you determine that chain 3 was missing from the picture?  I see that 11 and 12 are reading 0 but the others look good.  I know I have a lot to learn but that is part of the fun isn't it.

210  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S9 or 841 or... on: March 16, 2018, 08:59:47 PM
I do not have an operation anywhere near what you have. But I have put all my mining hardware purchases on hold because I feel the ASIC manufacturers are taking their time in reducing the costs. To me the prices will need to come down considerably to make me want to buy. I also feel (and this is nothing more than that, a feeling) that there's new hardware/software coming from Bitmain on the BTC front.

Personally I feel like it might be a better time to watch alts and either speculate or mine them then sell in to BTC rather than buy new BTC mining gear.

100% opinion Smiley
211  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9 Failures, bitmain rma did not solve, found no resoultion in forums. on: March 16, 2018, 07:17:26 PM
So I think I have gotten to the bottom of my problems.

I plugged in a few more machines today and heard my massive ventilation fans bog down. I unplugged a few S9s and heard the fans pick back up. I repeated similar tests like this.

I am pretty sure that the City is not supplying me with enough power to run my operation... This makes sense since I melted their power lines last year outside and they had to replace them. They have a weak link somewhere so I can not get the full 300amps I need to keep running all my machines.

Ahhhhh yeah, that makes sense.

Have you tried a different pool? Or different address for your existing pool? It really sounds like you're losing the network connection to the pool you have in there now. Is your internet connection metered?

Also, the web interface has some simple network diagnostics, you might try to run those the next time the miners stop hashing.

Are the miners DHCP or static?

214  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: electricity set up for newbie on: March 14, 2018, 02:35:49 AM
I appreciate that. I am indeed very new. I think that I have identified that the breaker is 100A for where it is located. I would find it helpful to learn how much load each outlet could take and I shall seek an electrician to identify the answer. Could you tell me what type of power cable to use and with what fuse should be in it? I've read that a PDU could be used, but I don't know of how many Amps that should be or how many S9's could run off of it, if it were say 30A. Could you enlighten me on the power cable and PDU side of things please?

As mentioned that 100A breaker is most likely a sub-panel or possibly the main breaker for your panel. Maybe you are in a very small house or apartment? Anyway, there should be other breakers, these are the smaller ones running to your outlets and appliances. So you need to know *exactly* what the outlet is rated at that you will plug the miner in to, you do that by finding the breaker for that outlet.

There's no fuses to worry about, you need to just use the correct gauge (size) wire and ends that match the wall plug and power supply. I would use a power cord that physically plugs in to your outlet, once you find that outlet's amperage. Luckily they are very common, just make sure the cord is rated for 10A or so.

As far as how many to run off certain size circuits, I think you should consult your electrician on how, exactly the best way to wire up your environment. You can tell him the miner uses roughly 7 amps. But this isn't something you can string off of a bunch of extension cords. So depending on how many circuits you have available, you can plan with your electrician the best way to wire. Let's say you only have one 30A circuit, then your best bet would be a PDU (power distribution unit) and you can safely run about 3 S9s off that on a 30A circuit.

Search around on this forum, pretty much everything you need has been posted, and recently too as there's a TON of new folks buying miners and asking questions.

215  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much daily work is required for mining? on: March 13, 2018, 09:38:36 PM
Mine 5 ASICs have been singing along for weeks and I have done nothing. I use Awesomeminer to monitor mine, I imagine several months down the road I might blow some air through them, but as far as daily work? Nothing, they do better when left alone.
216  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: electricity set up for newbie on: March 13, 2018, 09:32:04 PM
Thanks. I have set one up successfully. It's been mining for about 5 hours on antpool. I have a space dedicated for mining so no need to worry about heat and noise. Is there a good resource online which I can check out to get me acquainted with these types of things that I need to consider? Would any electrician be able to help me out? Does one not need to be acquainted with mining?

I would imagine most electricians do not know anything about Bitcoin. **But** as far as identifying breakers and the load an outlet could take they would be your best bet, I advise this as you seem very new and I would not want you to have any sort of electrical issue that at the least damages your mining equipment or at the worst hurts or kills someone.

217  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PDU and cables for s9 antminers? on: March 13, 2018, 05:37:34 PM
To be clear you can continuously use 80% of that 30A circuit safely. The miners pull over 6A so you'll be cutting it close, personally I'd run 3 per 30A.

If you do a search for PDU you'll find plenty of threads.
218  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: electricity set up for newbie on: March 13, 2018, 05:33:16 PM
Circuit breaker says 100A, so I guess this is good. Is it fine to use an extension cable in a socket if I wish to run more?

No to extension cords. I think you should find an electrician before you proceed, this stuff isn't the same as plugging in a TV or computer. Also, be prepared for the noise and heat...
219  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s9 setup and questions on: March 13, 2018, 05:30:33 PM
I do not see an answer from you, are you running 110 or 220 voltage?
220  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain release of new miners. on: March 10, 2018, 09:24:47 PM
That was expected to happen in near future. I guess it is good also, because it will bring down prices of GPU's, gamers will be happy about that.
But honestly, I am not sure what to think about Ethereum ASIC miners. If Ethereum becomes PoS, I don't see reason why someone would buy those miners. It would mean capturing their investment... but I guess that would also depend on Miners price on start.

One wrinkle in the PoS movement, regulation. There's already speculation that PoS coins could be considered a security due to paying "dividends". Obviously this is all conjecture, but it *could* affect PoS as an alternative to PoW.
