201  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Reason To Use Bitcoin...Come on People! on: October 28, 2011, 10:06:32 PM
I'll be buying once BTC goes up, lol. I'd like to see a full demonstration on how to use it too. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing a ballistics test so I know how dangerous it could be (velocities, etc)

Does it come with a ram rod?

203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / I consider bitcoinplus a scam on: October 25, 2011, 01:32:49 PM
I just transferred my funds from bitcoin plus. At this point, I consider it a pure scam. You get .00003 btc per share and the owner is still enforcing the .01 transfer fee. Plus you can only send multiples of .01. I'm really stumped as to why people would still be using that site.  Roll Eyes

207  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: XFX 5830 cooling before and after on: October 23, 2011, 01:04:32 AM
Probably all fans. Some are likely better than others. I wouldn't be so abusive if I didn't have the lifetime warranty.
208  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: XFX 5830 cooling before and after on: October 22, 2011, 07:50:45 PM
I'm now running the 1st gen with 80% fan, 330mh/s (1040/300) at 73.5C.
209  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: XFX 5830 cooling before and after on: October 22, 2011, 05:50:48 PM
edit:
1st gen is at 100% fan speed, 307mh/s and 69.5C
2nd gen is at 60% fan speed, 307mh/s and 59.5C

Going to do arctic silver swap now.

put the new OEM fan on with artic silver
1st gen is at 100% fan speed, 306mh/s and 66C
2nd gen is at 60% fan speed, 306mh/s and 59C

In summary, I guess arctic silver helps a bit... but not much. Adding 3 more heat pipes would help a lot more.

Arctic silver takes 300 hours to cure then shutdown/cool points. Most newer technology TIMs do not have a cure time. Meaning you won't get the full effect from AS5 for a full 300 hours.

If you're running a stock xfx fan at 100%, your gonna burn up/seize that fan in no time.

Most of us run between 65-80% speed of the fans to keep them living.

Just a few suggestions.

Lifetime warranty. Good point though, I'll see what the temps are at 80%. What's the safe temp range, under 80c?
210  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / XFX 5830 cooling before and after on: October 21, 2011, 11:26:13 PM
So I've got a 2nd gen XFX 5830 with the 5 heat pipe cooler and a 1st gen XFX 5830 with the 2 pipe cooler.

Right now they're both running at 958/300 and they both get about 305-307mh/s.
1st gen is at 100% fan speed and 2nd gen is at 50%
Right now the 1st gen is at 72.5c and the 2nd gen is at 64c.

I'm going to let it run for a while and then see what the temps are then. After that I'm going to replace the cooler with a new one that XFX sent (current one is sometimes not running right) and I'll put arctic silver on to see the difference. I'll try to keep ambient temps the same. Doors/windows are shut.

211  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Looking to rent GPU processing power remotely. on: October 18, 2011, 12:40:32 PM
My rig can, right now, achieve 600-640mh/s. I'm looking to expand in the future but that's everything I've got right now.
212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin limbo - how low will we go? on: October 17, 2011, 06:51:46 PM
It's possible my power will be paid for pretty soon - if that happens, I'll be mining a lot more.

Supply is constant so I guess the big question I have is how do we get demand to go higher?
213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / bitcoin limbo - how low will we go? on: October 17, 2011, 06:27:20 PM
I started my bitcoin adventures in June when the price was 10-30 per btc. Now we're at 2.50. I'm not even sure it'd be worth mining anymore because it'd cost me $1.50 or so to run my machine for 24 hours and I'd only get about .5BTC per 24 hour period.

Who is in the same boat? Are you still mining with hopes it goes up in value again? I have to say, it's looking like BTC is plummeting and I've no idea how it'll recover.

I'm just wondering what's up with bitcoins.lc.

1). the last time I mined, I was getting between 3% and 8-10% rejected
2). We're currently at 80.42 Ghash/s, why?
3). The site was going to get updated nearly two months ago, yet hasn't been

Those are the quick 3 that I can think of.

218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Spend bitcoins or nobody will accept btc on: September 09, 2011, 12:39:26 AM
I just realized something. If we all hoard bitcoins, nobody will have an incentive to accept them on their site. Then nobody will be able to spend them. Then they'll be worthless.

So, this week, everyone buy something with a few of your bitcoins.
219  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Investing in hardware for mining, is it too late? on: August 27, 2011, 06:19:05 PM
At the current rate, probably would take you a year at the least, not including power. difficulty increases but also decreases supply. If we hit $30/btc again, it'll be worth the investment, then again if btc tanks tomorrow, it wouldn't have been. It's a gamble.
220  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [MINER] Phoenix - New efficient, fast, modular miner **BFI_INT support!** on: August 23, 2011, 12:59:29 AM
for me (6850) 1.6 is faster than 1.5, about 30 Mh/s more. Shocked)

Running a 5830, it's about 2-3mh/s slower. Not a lot but still enough to be odd in my mind.
