201  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC approaches resistance on: August 26, 2021, 09:57:07 PM
Another resistance at $50k, it seems.

I think that the bull run is very close to its tail end right now. Sure, we could potentially see a few green days over the coming weeks but I think the general trend is consolidation from here.

Expect the $40k support to be retested. I'm saying this as a long term bitcoin bull, and I believe that these dips along the way would be the perfect opportunity to accumulate.
202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fake token in wallet on: August 26, 2021, 09:14:29 PM
Huge issue for sure.

I've seen exactly this happen on the forum many times before. People asking for collateralised loans only to send fake tokens as collateral.

Always check the smart contract address when you're dealing with ERC20 tokens as there is a good chance if you're receiving tokens from newbies, it is fraudulent.
203  Economy / Speculation / Re: People are panic buying right now! on: August 25, 2021, 11:22:08 PM
Indeed, I have a few friends who are just getting into bitcoin seeing the recent resurgence.

Be fearful when everyone else is greedy. Even though I am a long term believer in Bitcoin, I think that it'll be a matter of time before this bull market comes to an end and a lot of overleveraged traders get wiped out.

It's okay if you're buying right now, just make sure that you control your investment sizes through Dollar Cost Averaging.
204  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔥 Bitpr0.com | The Ultimate Crypto Gambling Site Directory on: August 25, 2021, 10:54:33 PM
How did I not find this site earlier? This looks absolutely great.

I like the interface a lot, but I would suggest that instead of just having affiliate links for the gambling portion of the website, actually have reviews and ratings for each of them. That way, people can decide for themselves based on the ratings which one is the best option.

Also, perhaps integrate a news feed/have professional writers to write articles for you? I think that is a good strategy to boost traction.

Wow, I'm definitely looking forward to this!

Been playing with small amounts at your site for a while now and love the atmosphere.

I actually don't mind the current selection of games, I think that the focus around blackjack is unique and brings a lot of niche players. But if you feel the need to expand outside of blackjack I guess it doesn't hurt - best of luck!
206  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can I recommend a friend to buy Bitcoin now? on: August 25, 2021, 09:48:37 PM
Get him to decide for himself.

Why should you feel the obligation to recommend an investment strategy to someone else entirely? If it doesn't pan out, they will blame you and your reputation is on the line.

Especially with the crypto market at such heights, I would be pretty uncomfortable in terms of selling recommendations to anyone. If you absolutely want to, either tell them to DCA or to wait until a correction below $40k occurs again before buying a lump sum.

Of course, the best is to buy the orange coin itself and hodl your private keys.
The second best is to buy the orange coin and make some professional custodian hodl your keys.
The third best is but some structured product that efficiently tracks the price of bitcoin. Something like GBTC, but better. I don't know exactly where are you from, but something like BTCE (learn more here: ETC Group to launch bitcoin ETP on Deutsche Boerse).
The fourth best is GBTC, now trading at a hefty discount on the secondary market.
The fifth best is buying something vaguely related to BTC; as MSTR.

Exactly.

You're essentially buying an illusion. MSTR has no obligations to neither hold the coins or distribute the coins to their shareholders at any stage.

If they don't pay dividends, liquidate their assets and do a stock buyback, how is the stockholder ever going to see the value of their investment go up even in BTC bull markets? It's simply a really bad tracker for BTC price if you're trying to gain exposure to the markets.
208  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: August 24, 2021, 11:08:16 PM
Seems like that there are still quite a few casinos who are stuck with their archaic fee structures. Definitely try to avoid them as bitcoin fees are dirt cheap these days.

From a fee perspective it does seem like that there are a few winners that you should look out for, including FJ and Nitrogenbet.

It would be really good to see more casinos offering variable withdrawal fees imho - some people don't want instant confirmations and would rather save on fees. It's the player's money so they should be able to decide what they want to do with it.
209  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can anyone explain these gambling questions? (Client Seed & RTP) on: August 24, 2021, 10:48:12 PM
A site like "Stake" provides a feature where you can change your "Client Seed" ..... so in theory, if say 1000 people use the same "Client Seed" ... then all those gamblers that are sharing the same seed, are supposed to win and lose at the same time... right?  (Does the Server Seed differ from user to user too.. or is it the same for all the users on the site?)

Also, please explain the RTP (Return to Player) concept.  Roll Eyes  When a Slot provider configure the RTP for a Slot to say 95% ..... then a player is supposed to get back 95% of their wagering.. right? ....or is the RTP a pool of players that are playing that specific Slot? .....and the pool of 95% wagered are distributed to the players playing that Slot? (or does the pool consist of all the money that are wagered at all the games that are offered by that specific Slot provider) ?

Hope someone can explain this to us?

1. Absolutely not. Having the same client seed does not guarantee the same results from each roll, because as you said there is also a server seed in play here.

2. RTP is simply a measure of expected value. It has nothing to do with how profits are distributed over a fixed amount of time.

If you have RTP of 95% then on average, over time, you would see 5% of total gambling volume being transformed into profits for the casino. Note how it is "on average, over time". There is absolutely no guarantees that within a year's time, the casino profits will be 5%. It could be 100%, 0%, or -100% if the system is truly provably random.
210  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UK 20% of the gambling venues are located at the poorest part of the country on: August 24, 2021, 10:32:23 PM
Remember that correlation does not equal causation.

I don't think that they are likely targeting poor individuals at all, in fact that would be a rather stupid business move don't you think?

Rather, it is likely because the price of real estate/rentals are simply too unaffordable in more affluent neighbourhoods and there is a general lack of demand in gambling services in these areas. You have to look beneath the surface to dig out the truth with these stats.
211  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Euro 2020 caused a spike in gamlbing issues on: August 24, 2021, 09:29:54 PM
Of course, if you are a problem gambler then you need to seek out help.

However, more gambling volume necessarily means that there will be higher numbers of problem gambling - the sample size has now increased.

Shutting the entire sport down for a few bad apples is simply unfeasible. But I do agree that there should be support measures that are provided/funded by sportsbooks, including voluntary self-exclusion, but there is only so much you can do without ruining the entire industry.
212  Economy / Speculation / Re: Did I do the right thing? I bought shares of MicroStrategy. on: August 24, 2021, 09:18:01 PM
Unfortunately, I don't think that it's a great idea.

Essentially you are getting the worst of both worlds here. You are now subject to the illiquidity and the regulatory oversight of the fiat economy, whilst still having to cop bitcoin's volatility.

In fact, there is pretty much no way that MSTR is going to trade at NAV because of the investment vehicle structure. Investors would only be able to realise their total investment if the company for whatever reason decides to dump all their coins. Not worth.
213  Economy / Services / Re: 1xbit.com honest review campaign (open) on: August 15, 2021, 10:09:30 PM
I like how the site looks and the wide range of functionalities. Especially the proprietary games that has been developed, I think they are quite unique and definitely brings a competitive edge to the business compared to others who just use third party slots/games.

However, I do wish that there is a bit more transparency in regards to the ongoing dispute resolutions.

For instance, perhaps let an escrow/mediator hold and resolve cases as they pop up. That would inspire a lot more trust in the business compared to the founders having sole rights to explaining the T&Cs.

214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Twitch introduces restrictions on gambling-related links - deadline 17 Aug on: August 15, 2021, 12:11:32 PM
Very interesting indeed.

My first instinct is how are casinos going to advertise now? A big portion of their advertising were going through Twitch through affiliated gamblers which drew in crowds in the thousands. Roobet has a pretty deep partnership with Exposed or whatever his name is, for instance.

But now, a big portion of their revenues will probably be taken away as well - gambling is a very lucrative business, after all, and tips going to these streamers are sizeable.
215  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can anything make you stop gambling on: August 14, 2021, 04:03:04 AM
If gambling isn't entertaining anymore, I'd quit in a heartbeat.

Because that is when I'm most likely going to chase losses and treat it as a way to make money as opposed to just a form of entertainment.

The shift in mindset is definitely something to look out for if you think you are prone to problem gambling. Remember that the house, at the end of the day, always wins. There is simply no way of making money in the long run from the house, no matter how hard you try.
216  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we in 2017 again? How do you feel about the price chart today? on: August 13, 2021, 10:33:43 AM
No, we are not in 2017.

We're much further along this time given the large volume of institutional adoption. And markets have matured to the point where most big players in the crypto scene are no longer unregulated entities, but carefully watched organisations under the SEC.

The fundamentals are completely different despite the way that charts look being similar. And I would always go for fundamental analysis.
217  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Best wallet for Crypto Sportbooks deposits/withdrawals? on: August 13, 2021, 05:18:46 AM
Agree what everyone else said.

Do NOT go with a custodial wallet. That would be incredibly foolish as they reserve all rights to suspend your account if they see fit - and I'm sure with thousands of dollars on the line they would be very welcoming of any opportunity to hold user funds.

Especially avoid sites like Coinbase which are a) publicly listed, so heavily scrutinised and b) have a historical record of suspending user accounts who dabble in gambling.
218  Other / Archival / Re: [LIST] The Introduction of Bitcoin Into the Global Economy on: August 12, 2021, 08:57:33 PM
Thanks for this. This is really useful.

This just shows how exponential the growth has been from an adoption perspective, and that is exactly what we like to see as it offers substance to back up the current bull run.

We should continue to see this sort of growth. Institutions are jumping on the opportunity to adopt bitcoin on a large scale more than ever. Retirement funds are moving, investment banks are moving, portfolio managers are moving... It's truly an alternative asset class that offers a low/negative Beta with the rest of the market.
219  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stock Market, Fundstrat’s Tom Lee predicts Bitcoin has a shot at $100K on: August 12, 2021, 07:26:48 AM
Tom Lee is a bitcoin permabull. I would take everything that they say with a huge grain of salt.

The reality of it is that bitcoin is unlikely to breach 6 figures during this bull run. The capital from new institutional investors have dried up somewhat and the timing is simply not there given that we are at the tail end of a halving cycle.

But for next halving at 2024? Absolutely. It's almost certain that by then there will be more institutional capital and serious interest in DeFi.
220  Economy / Economics / Re: Out of control and rising: why bitcoin has Nigeria’s government in a panic on: August 12, 2021, 01:52:31 AM
These are precisely the people who would benefit the most from bitcoin's ecosystem as well.

Ironically, the more oppressive a regime is, the more reason there is to use bitcoin and the more people will realise the importance of decentralised finance away from the interventionist governments.

You simply cannot shut down a decentralised network like this, no matter how hard you try, UNLESS you decide to shut down the internet connection to all of Nigeria which is impossible. Good lesson to the regulators as well.
