201  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt Gox Endgame on: February 21, 2014, 01:08:29 PM
what gox is doing makes absolutely no sense if the reasons gox is giving for their behaviour where true.

there is obviously something going on which is not talked about in public.
whatever it is it is important enough to let conspiracy theories and accusations of criminal behavior against gox be worth it.

most people would see a classic mix of greed and incompetence as the most plausible reason,
but there are several other options which could explain the gox behaviour.

e.g.:
criminal investigations inside:
linked to sr1 and funding of other illegal activities (think guns, drugs or simply money laundry - there is obviously a giant market for that) are going on inside gox - investigators just go through all accounts and see who has more money (or btc) than they could possibly explain. They have gox by the balls as non-compliance can be used as a prison-time threat against mk.

the survival of the gox exchange or even the survival of the btc itself is probably considered less important than catching terrorists and mafiosi.

either way, in a system which is based as much on trust as btc, it keeps surprising me on a daily basis how anyone would want to do business via gox after the fiat withdrawal problems started and where never fixed.

so again it is greed and ingnorance, but also on the client side.
202  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why the Mt. Gox Crash is a Bankster Controlled Implosion on: February 21, 2014, 12:25:12 PM
Greed and incompetence are a lot more common than conspiracy…

…or maybe that's what they want you to think?

Just kidding. Greed and incompetence every time.
indeed. most of the time the reason is what is most likely.

-you only need conspiracy theories when you lack information and power to influence.
203  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitstamp Acting Very Strange : Heads Up on: February 20, 2014, 06:18:27 PM
I have the exact same issue, never had any problems with BitStamp before. This week tried to withdraw $xxxxx and asked for additional KYC info.
Given all info they possibly need and havent heard anything back since 3 days now.

Is BitStamp secretly owned by Gox? wtf is going on
maybe you hit some limits that make it likely to be suspected for money laundry or other offences which can cost any exchange their existance if big enough and discovered.

I tried withdrawing btc today and had no difficulties at all (9 times). but mind you I am not talking about btc amounts worth tens of thousands of dollars/euros here.

wish you luck and patience and justified trust.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tokyo, Japan, February 20th, 2014

Dear MtGox Customers,

Thank you for your patience this week while we are working on re-initiating bitcoin
withdrawals. In addition to the technical issue, this week we have experienced some
security problems, and as a result we had to relocate MtGox to our previous office building
in Shibuya (details can be found here https://support.mtgox.com/home). The move,
combined with some other security and technical challenges, pushed back our progress.
As much as we didn’t want to only provide an “update on an update”, this is the current
status. We are committed to solving this issue and will provide more information as soon
as possible to keep everyone in the loop.
We are very sorry for the delays and deeply appreciate your kind understanding and
continuous support.

Best regards,

MtGox Team

This is fucking unbelievable...  Angry

This has got to be a result of employees fearing their safety.   It sucks for just the average employee that is just there doing their job, as there is nothing that they can do to fix the situation...

riots in the streets are keeping MagicTheGatherinOnlineeXchange from work...

205  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Anyone else got bitstamp btc withdrawal problems? on: February 20, 2014, 05:50:06 PM
I experienced no btc withdrawal problems today.
(9 withdrawals all went through smoothly.)

207  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which bitcoin news sites you follow and why? on: February 14, 2014, 07:13:05 PM
it seems that posing this question at the place where all (all) bitcoin news sites get their news from doesn´t lead to too many answers...

still I hope you get a good feeling.  Wink
208  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Stupid question? on: February 13, 2014, 10:26:56 AM
what you have in mind is called "arbitrage".
yes it does work, but keep in mind that you are not the only one to try and make a profit of it.
the more people try to do that, the faster the prices will even out (you can even tell where most people are buying and selling just from the price difference - as it very quickly becomes equal to buy price + transaction fees).
when you take the transaction fees of the different exchanges into account the profit you aimed for can very quickly turn into good old speculation on a rising price if the prices change faster than your btc transfer arrives.

having said that:
yes it does work, but there is a big BUT.
209  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: January 30, 2014, 05:10:18 PM
Dont get me wrong, I am rather upset with mtgox too, as my btc are currently in nirvana-limbo too, but with about 35000 bad withdrawal transactions and at least two support tickets each, a non-reply from the support team is not big news.

What I am really missing and what makes the entire situation really fishy is the fact that there is no official statement at all.
If there is a technical reason, I dont see why they are not saying something like "We have a problem. We are fixing it. It wont happen again, because..."

The way they are not-reacting is withdrawing any trust left.

210  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why hold BTC on MtGox? on: January 29, 2014, 07:33:58 PM
Except Gox are holding up most BTC transfers out now.

Never had any problems withdrawing BTC. Last time was in December.

dont try it now. lots and lots of btc "stuck" in invalid transactions which show up as double spend on blockchain.info....
plus no answer from support.

211  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: January 28, 2014, 11:51:24 PM
MtGox finally accepted my bank account. Pushed some PLN to my bank. We'll see. It is rather low amount (less than 0.2 BTC). Will keep you informed.
dont do it.
sepa withdrawals are like waiting for godot (they hardly ever arrive - and even if they do, it is months for sure).
and now even btc withdrawals are getting "lost" in great numbers (check out the thread at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=431117.0).

do yourself a favour, dont give anything to mtgox you ever want to see again. seriously.
212  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Broken BTC Withdrawals on Gox. Update: 400+ broken TX for nearly 10,000 BTC!! on: January 28, 2014, 11:41:17 PM
Currently about 20000BTC are stuck in failed transactions from Gox, that nearly matches the remaining BTCleft on Mt. Gox askside.
[tinfoil hat on] Maybe they are already out of coins.[tinfoil hat off]

Look here about the missing withdrawls:
http://thegoxreport.com/

and the remaining asks on Gox
http://trading.i286.org/

BTW: The daily missing tx (18770)and the remaining(18870) match each other nearly exactly

o fugg.

I am on that list too Sad

what now?
